building. katherine scott is live with new details on what went wrong. >> reporter: sara we just received word that operations at the courthouse are shut down for the rest of the day. what exactly happened is unknown. we hear that two elevators were involved here and the issues were connected and two people were injured. these elevators were in the employee elevator area. this is not where the general public area. i was actually in one of the public elevator when the alarm sounded and the building evacuated. there are still people outside and the word is just starting to spread that operations are shutting down here for the rest of the day. initially they said an elevator dropped and now they are saying it was a malfunction. the issue was with two elevators here and two people were injured. this was the employee who was in one of the elevators at the

criminal justice center at 10:20 a.m. when a loud noise was heard. >> we were on the 11th floor and heard a loud commotion, a loud boom. >> it literally made the floor shake. >> it shook. >> first responders rushed to the courthouse at 13th and filbert and alarms sounded inside of building and it was evacuated. damage was found in the elevator with damage to the roof area. >> according to the lady something fell from above when she was in the elevator. we are trying to get information from the elevator company and an investigation. >> police responded to an elevator on the 15th floor, and there was damage and one worker was injured. >> back here live outside, everyone is outside. and they announce that operations at the courthouse are shut down for the rest of the day. as for the two victims, the one

you saw is a court employee, she was taken to hahnemann with minor injuries and taken there for minor injuries. the other is a sheriff'sdeputy, a sergeant we don't know what his injuries are. we don't know anything else yet, but they say some sort of malfunction. >> sounds like we'll follow that throughout the day. thank you. the accidents at the criminal justice septemberer happened just after a former church official was there for a court appearance. monsignor lynn learned his new court date. he was the first american church official ever convicted of covering up child sex abuse and was released on monday when his decision was overturned. seth williams insisted on retrying the case. time now to check the

people with a knife in russel square a popular spot for tourists. a woman in her 60s from the u.s. was killed. he remains in custody and british police have increased security around london. the school district of philadelphia is retesting drinking water in schools to make sure it's free of led. samples will be taken at 40 schools to make sure they comply with the epa and department of health standards. it's part of the safe drinking water program and schools in areas where schools have high blood levels and older buildings will be tested. the school last performed water testing in 2010. children in need will get a jump start in the school year thanks to a big donation today. they were on hand to donate $50,000 to the nonprofit group

we want to update the breaking news now from center city where we reported on an elevator malfunction located at 18th and filbert. one person injured was a worker he is in critical condition sustaining chest and head injuries. we understand that the elevator malfunctioned and went through the concrete flooring and struck a second elevator car below. there was a woman in that car who did sustain minor injuries and she was also taken to the hospital. our understanding here now twro elevators involved.

per hour. 80 in reading and 81 in philadelphia and upper 70s in wilmington and trenton and down to the beach a lot of upper 70s in dover and atlantic city and ocean city et cetera. >> we have a lot of sunshine out there once again, we see the development of fair weather cumulous clouds and more today than yesterday, it's still a nice bright day and a good looking day, it feels good too. up in the lehigh valley, low humidity, a high of 83 degrees and you still need the cool drinks and sunscreen and all of that stuff. the low humidity is comfortable for august and sunny and breezy at the shore and highs of 78 and most shore communities and ocean temperature running at 77 degrees, and we saw the people at the water down at the shore. and rip currents are low in new jersey and not in delaware a moderate risk there. and mostly sunny and low humidity in philadelphia, 84 and winds on the light side.

accident. two people hurt and one of them seriously. john rawlins joins us live from the scene with new information. >> reporter: hi sara, there is still a lot we don't know. two employees were injured. in two separate elevators. they are not public elevators but the elevators used by employees, judges, jurors, both were the individuals injured were employees. one a female employee of the court and one a 50-year-old sergeant in the sheriff's department. what is described to us is a chain reaction situation, a malfunction on the 15th floor where the deputy was located. he has head and chest injuries and that car fell on another car on a lower level and the female employee was in the car at the
