this developing story. trish. >> reporter: well, monica, john dougherty the well known union leader is back inside his home now after about five hours of fbi and irs agents going in and out of his home. it was one of many sites raided today by the fbi. dougherty says he's cooperating but doesn't know why the raids are happening at all. >> i've been under scrutiny my whole life. i don't understand why. maybe it's because i win too much. >> reporter: the well known union leader emphasized his community service and dedication to the electric's union while the fbi raided his house. as the day went on agents brought boxes out of dougherty's home on the 1900 block of east moyamensing avenue his sister's home next door was also searched. the local 98 leader was surrounded by supporters a few doors down. agents also spent the day raiding dougherty's pub on seconds street and the ibew local 98 headquarters at 17th and spring garden. dozens of boxes were brought out of the union hall and loadd into a truck.

the fbi has made no comment as to the nature of the investigation. a spokesperson for local 98 answered questions saying the union is subject to multiple audits a year and he doesn't know why it would come under financial scrutiny by the feds. >> i can also tell you that it's somewhat puzzling that they're investigating john's home because nothing in john's home or about john's home has changed in the the last 10 years since the last time the fbi raided john's home. >> reporter: dougherty was never charged after that 2006 raid. "action news" spoke with former federal prosecutor george perry about today's raids during which a number of warrants were served. >> it would be fair to say that they're not fooling around. they have reason to believe that crimes are being committed and they have reason to believe that the searches that they're conducting will produce evidence of those crimes. >> reporter: now, the fbi is asking anyone who may have pertinent information to the investigation to give them a call. that number 215-418-4000. live in south philadelphia,

"action news" tried to get a comment there but was unsuccessful. >> philadelphia mayor jim kenney has worked closely with both dougherty and henon but when we caught up with him today he said he knew as much as the media which is not very much. >> i know basically what you know. and as it plays out we'll see what happens bullet i don't have any other information and you can ask the question 20 different ways but there won't be any comment because i don't have any information. >> the mayor also said his office has not been asked for anything by the fbi. and this is investigation is now crossed state lines. fbi agents took guns out of a warehouse in berlin, new jersey. this is at mjk electrical on cross keys road in berlin. coming up tonight at 6:00 we're live at the warehouse with more on this part of the

"action news" reporter katherine scott was there as folks showed up for court and then were turned away. >> reporter: caution tape at the side doors officers posted in the front. many who showed up to the criminal justice center today had to turn right back around since the courthouse was closed for most matters. >> no court today. the building is closed. >> i was here just to see my judge and i was supposed to go up to her officers i had a meeting land with her and i didn't hear anything. >> reporter: thursday morning first responders rushed to 13th and filbert after a malfunction.

after the courthouse was evacuated it shut down for the rest of thursday. it remained closed today for most operations but not everybody heard. >> i got a lawyer i can talk to, yeah. i'm wondering why he ain't call me if it was closed yesterday and today, too, so he's got some explaining to do. >> come back monday or whatever day they said they would send out a notice when i can come back again. >> reporter: court clerk beverly smith was released from hospital with minor injuries. sheriff's office sergeant paul owens was seriously injured breaking bones in his back. i spoke with the sheriff today. he says his sergeant's surgery was successful but veal to remain in the hospital for a few more days as he continues to recover. on the court's web site it says people involved in trials already in progress are to report back to the courthouse on monday. all perspective jurors witnesses victims and defendants who were supposed to appear for a trial or matter today should wait to be notified by the court as to when they're required to

appear. as for what caused the elevator to malfunction, it all remains under investigation. in center city, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> a hotel robbery is under investigation tonight in south philadelphia. after two men broke into a guest's room while he was sleeping. this is surveillance video of the suspects. they are seen here on the eighth floor of the penrose hotel last month. they somehow broke into a room and stole a 23-year-old man's laptop, his wallet and credit cards. police believe the victim was asleep the entire time. they're now looking for the robbers. >> newly released video is shedding new light on what happened in the moments leading up to the fatal shooting of a chicago teenager. officers were chasing that teen through a neighborhood after he he fled from what was said to be a stolen car. one of the officers then shot him in the back. abcs ray ramundi joins us livism monica that video was rehe leased just nine days after the shooting. it's all part of new

departmental policy which calls for video police shootings to be made public within 60 days. despite the release of that video tonight there's still questions on what happened right before that fatal shot was fired claw not caught on --t caught on camera. watch the moment right before police officers first encounter 18-year-old paul o'neill driving what they say is a stolen car. you see one of the officers drawing his gun. and then that right into the squad car. several shots are fired as the car speeds off. you can see it just narrowly misses the officer. the video released by an independent police review authority. o'neill's family seeing it for the first time. >> it was disturbing. very disturbing. not the way anything supposed to be done. >> reporter: body cam video shows o'neill running away. police finally catching up with o'neill.

the next video shows o'neill already lying on the ground. what you don't see is the moment when o'neill is shot. police say the body camera malfunctioned or fell off during the chase. today the backlash as group of protestors not allowing the superintendent to speak but on the night of the incident police explained their version of what happened. >> the driver of the stolen vehicle putter the vehicle in drive and literally forced his way out by sideswiping both the squad car and a vehicle that was parked on the street. >> reporter: and the three police officers involved in that shooting have been removed from duty pending an investigation. a police representative says there was no misconduct and says the release of this video he could jeopardize officers safe track he too. live tonight here in new york, ray ramundi channel6 "action news. rick back to you. >> experts confirm it was a tornado that cut a path of

if you're headed to musikfest or the poconos this afternoon we've got slowing for you on the westbound schuylkill as you pass conshohocken and head out toward 476 the blue route. there was an earlier crash on the northbound blue route approaching the mid-county tolls that got us off to a bad start this afternoon. and it's still a very bad situation on the pennsylvania turnpike westbound. you want to avoid this jammed solid from downingtown out to approaching morgantown where there's a crash in the left lane. speeds are just around 11 miles per hour. so headed west this afternoon maybe use 422, stay local on 322 or even stay down other 30 bypass but the westbound turnpike not where you want to be. have a crash along pawlings road at 23 and today route 23 nut road closed near phoenixville, that's for about a week and a half. 113 your alternate around that construction. this is 95 southbound side little sluggish by cottman. had an earlier broken down vehicle by allegheny but that's now gone. here on 295 in camden county still seeing a slow travel time but the southbound pace has definitely picked up. now that that crash near the white horse pike is gone. crash on the a.c. expressway mostly off to the side now but

this week the problem at the shore has been the easterly flow that has been causing a lot of rip currents, so there have been a lot of water rescues. fortunately as we head through the weekend the winds will be shifting more westerly and that will get rid of the rip current risk. right now 84 degrees in philadelphia. allentown 80, wilmington 81. trenton 83. cape may and atlantic city airport currently 79 and the dewpoints are beginning to rise. officially at the airport in philadelphia the dewpoint is still 63 degrees but you can see just to our south we have dewpoints in the 70's and you can see those stream lines. that will be our wind direction as we head to the evening hours so tonight you will feel the moisture in the air. it will get very muggy overnighter. and satellite6 along with action radar showing the system i'm tracking for tomorrow, it's a cold front. it's across the great lakes and this will be moving through and a heads of it he we get those winds out of the southwest so that will really bump up the temperatures. our afternoon high about 91 degrees in philadelphia.

the heat index in the upper 90's. the morning should be fine as far as storms. if you have any garage sales or activities it should be dry but the afternoon is when we'll begin to see the scattered line of gusty thunderstorms. looks like around 1 o'clock most of the activity will be across the northwest suburbs but then it should be moving through the i-95 corridor by about 3:30, 4 o'clock and it's a pretty quick moving system. the bulk of the storms should be exiting the coast by about 7 o'clock so the coldplay concert tomorrow night, you should be fine and it's going to be one of these situations not everyone gets the storms. they will be a scattered line but anyone who does will get hit pretty hard. lightning, some heavy downpours, so as soon as you hear that rumble of thunder get off the beaches. get out of the pool, gusty winds and small hail possible and again ahead of that system it's going to be steamy way heat index in the upper 90's. so, your weekend kickoff forecast down the shore, warm and humid, 88 degrees. the shore, you will get the storms last. they should be holding off

what's going on. >> played it to the first friday in august. now we have to make it down the shore on this friday afternoon. if there's one spot where you don't want to crash on a friday afternoon in the summer time it's here on 42 southbound by the a.c. expressway. but there was an accident, was that pushed on the shoulder, just cleared out a couple minutes ago. still you're looking at a stop and go ride coming southbound on 42 off the walt whitman bridge the whole way on down to this point at the a.c. expressway. not a solid line but definitely stop and go. if you use 322 to get down the shore through gloucester county watch out there is a crash along 322 near oak grove road. and we had a crash on the pennsylvania turnpike. i was telling you about it westbound approaching morgantown. that cleared. we were starting to pick up the pace though but then in the backlog there was a second accident so a lane blocked there. you're seeing westbound coming away from malvern. at one point i was saying use 422 westbound instead. there was an accident there, too a westbound side approaching sanatoga but speeds don't look too awful.

blew the front door of the home across the street into a neighbor's yard. glass and other debris littered the road. doctors say that none of the victims' injuries appears to be life-threatening fortunately. a mountain climber had to be rescued after he slipped down a mountain in central california. helicopter shows them hoisting the climber to safety. a gps emergency locator helped them find the plan on wednesday. crews say the man was injured but is expected to make a full recovery. >> time for sports. jeff is here and the eagles' injuries are starting to pile up. >> head coach doug pederson says he's not second guessing his decision to have live. matthews hurts his knee today. you have to wonder what's going on here. the last two days four eagles starters left practice with injuries including sam bradford's top two targets today both receiver jordan matthews and tight end jack ertz leave with minor nicks raising the question should they be hitting.

>> ♪ >> half a dozen businesses offices and homes were raided by the fbi today. the target, arguably one of the most influential people in the city of philadelphia, labor boss john dougherty. now the i.r.s. confirms they, too, are involved but so far officials are keeping quiet on the specifics of the case. friday night, jim's off i'm monica malpass and the big story on "action news" is that series of raids that spanned the city of philadelphia and even across state lines into new jersey. so far we know of six investigation sites. dougherty's home and bar, doc's union pub in south philadelphia, headquarters of his union ibew in spring garden a councilman's district office in torresdale, philadelphia city hall and a warehouse in camden county. we have live team coverage for you tonight covering several of those sites visited by the feds today. trish hartman starts us off in front of the dougherty home in south philadelphia. trish.

>> reporter: monica, fbi and i.r.s. agents were in and out of these two homes for hours today. that of union leader john dock he tea and his sister. the investigation is wrapped up for now and both dock he tea and the union say they have nothing to hide. as agents searched his home and brought out evidence in boxes, local 98 leader john dougherty chatted with neighbors and friends several of whom were wearing ibew shirts. when he spoke to the media he emphasized his efforts in the community. >> i clean streets. last week i was on the roof walking by cleaning out gutters because of heavy rain. >> reporter: he and his lawyer looked through paperwork on the sidewalk and bottles of water and refreshments were passed around until the agents let's him back insides. he said he's cooperating fully and says nothing in his home has changed since the last time his home was raided in 2006 in an alleged tax fraud investigation. he was not charged after that raid. >> i represent working middle class people.
