than win a medal. she saved lives. first, a firefighter received injuries battling a blaze in new jersey. "action news" reporter, jeff chirico with more on how he was injured. >> reporter: the firefighter hurt his ankle while responding to the fire. we are told he will be okay. from here, it's hard to see damage. most of it is on the roof. the building is being renovated when the blaze broke out. [ sirens ] >> reporter: viewer video shows a plume of smoke billowing high into the air. firefighters got the call at 1:15 and found the roof burning on the 800 block of hilton road. >> reported a fire from the roof. a short time ago roofers were conducting their business on the roof on the far right side of the building. >> reporter: the building is being turned into a steel manufacturing plant. it's unclear if the roofers, who

just left, accidentally sparked the blaze. firefighters had it under control in 30 minutes. the bigger challenge for crews was the weather. >> the humidity proved to be more difficult than the fire. >> reporter: the company representative said there is smoke and water damage inside, but nothing that will significantly impact the republican novation. the cause of the fire is under investigation. in pennsauken, new jersey, jeff chirico, abc 6 news. no reason why officials raided local 98 yesterday and the home of the leader. agents descended on the home and office of the councilman. this major raid included nearly a dozen other locations. among them, a warehouse in new jersey. you can see agents removed weapons. neither have been charged with a crime. police are investigating a

deadly shooting in north philadelphia. it happened around 8:45 on the 1700 block of jefferson street. the victim, a 33-year-old man was pronounced dead an hour ago. he was shot multiple times in the head, chest, torso and arms. no arrests have been made and no weapon has been recovered. in delaware tonight, trying to find out what led up to a shooting that sent a 24-year-old man to the hospital. it happened around 7:15 tonight just north of new port. the victim was treated on the scene then taken to a nearby hospital. he is currently in stable condition. chicago's police superintendent says the department will take a hard look at the policies after video was released of a deadly police involved shooting. you can see police officers firing their guns as they pursued paul o'neal, a black teenager who stole a car. he crashed into a police car

then ran off. police handcuffed him after an officer shoots him in the back. today, the city's top cop addressed the video for the first time. >> a lot of people are upset by what they saw. quite honestly, they have a right to be upset. >> reporter: missing from the footage is video of the deadly shot. demonstrators claim the officer's body camera was turned off as part of a cover up. they said the officer only received the camera a week earlier and was not familiar how to use it. investigators think a propane gas leak is to blame for a fire that leveled a home. fire officials said the gas line was leaking, connected to a dryer in the home's basement. it's unclear what caused the leak or how the gas ignited. four remain in the hospital, including one in critical condition. septa is continuing to

create some work arounds to deal with the shortage of silver line five cars. monday, you will notice changes to the rail routes. they include the landsdale/doylestown line, trenton line and glenside combined line. some of the routes are getting additional trains. others will have adjusted schedules. the new times are listed on septa's website. we could learn tomorrow if philadelphia's criminal justice center will be open on monday. they will continue to have tests on elevators in a freak accident on thursday. one suddenly went out of control and crashed into the top of a shaft going through the roof. debris fell on the second elevator. the sheriff deputy remains in critical condition with a broken back. the county court clerk as you see there, suffered minor injuries. police officers and

civilians came together to remember those who died in the line of duty. this morning marks the project, blue light memorial. 100 cyclists left the police academy to remember officers who died while serving and officers who have taken their own looifrs. the importance of being an organ donor was high lieged in delaware. hundreds took part in the dover dash in wilmington. many people who participated are recipients of organ donations including bruce who had a heart attack in 1999. his son performed cpr until emergency responders survivored. he still needed a heart transplant and got one in 2011. >> i'm able to live a normal life. i have three granddaughters i'm able to see grow up. i'm their baby sitter, a part time mentor. we have a great time living. it wouldn't be possible without

people donating organs. >> super guy and super grandpa. now to the story of an olympian who used her athletic ability to help others. she is one of the athletes on the refugee team competing in rio. amy robach has the amazing story. for the first time ever, a team of refugees competing in the olympics. she stepped on to the world stage to a ringing applause. it was a crowning moment for the 18-year-old swimmer and refugee from syria. not far from her mind, 18 other syrians who wouldn't be alive today if not for her and her sister sarah. last august, they were on a small boat mept for six, heading for greece, when it began to sink. >> after a half hour or ten minutes -- >> reporter: they jumped into the water, pushing the boat to

land. it took three and a half gruelling hours in open water. >> we will die in the water. we are swimmers. >> reporter: she began swimming in damascus. >> you have the training. there is one thing in the pool. you can see the roof. >> reporter: after surviving the journey, she and her sister settled in germany, finding a coach and a mission. go to the olympics and tell the world that refugees had to leave their homes not because they wanted to, but because they had to. another incredible moment for her on the olympic stage in the 100 meter butterfly, placing first in the heat. her time wasn't good enough to advance. even though she fell short today, she will compete on wednesday with another shot for the olympics. >> amazing story. still to come on "action news," a great day to celebrate. we'll take you to a festival for the family to hear music and see amazing art.
