year continues. some sought we le-- relief in t fountain asks some dined outside in rittenhouse square. it is here for a few days. the big story is the extreme heat. the excessive heat warning extended for parts of the area until tuesday evening as the heat wave continues. >> today another person died from the heat. that marks the third heat-related death this weekend in the city. we move on to meteorologist melissa magee live at the "action news" big board with her first check of the accuweather forecast. >> walter and sarah, it is not just the heat, it is the humidity that makes it feel unbearable at times. this trend will continue as we return to work this week. the dewpoint numbers tell the story. along the 95 corridor still in the lower 70s. any time they are that high, it is quite oppressive across the region. we have lots of moisture in the atmosphere at this hour. the current heat index in philadelphia coming in at 90.

85 in washington, d.c. feeling like 89 in richmond and 92 up the i95 corridor in new york city. the heat and humidity fueling showers and storms in our region and you can see it on the radar. most of the precipitation is south and east of philadelphia. going tighter on street-level on storm tracker. and pressing south and east and into cape may county this hour with moderate pockets of rain. this will be pushing eastward as we go throughout the rest of the overnight hours into the day on monday. so the excessive heat warning has been extended. it will last until tuesday at 6:00 p.m. it has expired for our northwest suburbs and also areas in south jersey. we are no longer underneath a heat advisory but hazy, hot and humidity for the metro area. and the heat indices topping

triple digits. check on the seniors and the pet. and more information on the heat and letting you know what it willies in the forecast. >> thank you. police in bensalem, bucks county acted quickly in afternoon to rescue a baby from a hot car. tonight the child's aunt and grandmother are facing charges. and jeff with the details. >> we are told the interior reached 115 degrees. and katia hernandez and patricia diaz were babysitting the child when they decided to go shopping. fortunately, some alert good samaritans were far behind. >> you can't leave a dog or cat in the car, how do you forget a child. >> the question many ask after the child was left in the car in the sun, happening at the target parking lot around 3:30. a passerby noticed the child and

called for police. >> and an off-duty police officer witnessed it as well. he was able to get the car door open. >> the female toddler was stuck in the car for 14 minutes but will be ok. her aunt and grandmother who were stopping told the police they simply forgot her. shoppers say that's no excuse. >> she should be reprimanded. it is totally unacceptable. >> i flat out don't understand how it's done i mean you get out of the car and your checker your wallet and purse, how do you not check for a baby? >> katia hernandez and patricia diaz spent hours at police headquarters being booked. as the child's grandfather waited he believes that his daughter and wife made a mistake that could have cost them the life ever his granddaughter turning one next week. >> without the off-duty officer and other folks the baby would not have made her birthday.

at this hour the police cannot confirm whether think shots were actually fired. stay with us for new information as it comes in. back here, a 16-year-old shot and killed this afternoon in the kensington section of the city. the teenager was found inside a car with a gunshot wound to the back. he was discovered on the 2000 block of east orleans street around 2:00. he was rushed to temple hospital where he was pronounced dead. police have not yet made any arrests in the case. two people killed in a car crash this afternoon in east falls. police say the driver after volvo was speeding down lincoln drive about 3:00 when he went over the median and crashed right into an oncoming car. the 23-year-old driver of the volvo died at the scene. the 55-year-old driver of the other car was taken to the medical center and she died of her injuries as well. a third car also involved in the wreck, the driver was not injured. a man from new jersey killed lie a lightning strike.

the 38-year-old man swimming last night when it happened. they say he was able to get out of the water on his own but was unresponsive on the beach. and he passed away this morning at lehigh cedarcrest and an autopsy scheduled tomorrow. tomorrow the authorities expected to release more information about a murder-suicide with a berks county couple and three small children. the bodies of megan and mark short found with their kids last weekend inside of their sinking spring home. the authorities say they found a note in the house and a gun against to one of the parents but have not yet said which one. a funeral held friday for megan and the children, and the news conference scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00. "action news" will be there. closing arguments are set for tomorrow in the trial of pennsylvania attorney general, kathleen kane. kane's lawyers rested on friday without calling a single witness. kane also did not take the stand. her lawyers believe she can't be convicted based on the evidence

presented by the prosecution. kane accused of leaking grand jury evidence to the press and then lying about it under oath. she faces up to seven years in prison if she's convicted. a 112-year tradition in norristown. the lodge celebrating the feast of the patronist or lady of perpetual house. the lodge was founded to help poor italian immigrants during the turn of the 20th century. the extreme heat did not stop the eagles' fans from flocking to lincoln financial field. and the eagles with a practice and the story from south philadelphia. the governor of wisconsin deployed the state's national guard to help law enforcement in milwaukee if local violence persists. riots broke out last night after police shot and killed a 23-year-old man. abc news with more. over a city trying to heal, businesses burned out, cars smashed and trashed. >> this is not the way we act. >> dozens of people arriving to pray and clean up. just hours after anger and violence erupted in the streets, protesters confronting the police after an officer-involved shooting saturday afternoon. >> once again the police failed to protect us. >> this is the police. leave the area. >> shots fired, shots fired. injured officers here. >> cars, a gas station, auto parts store and a bank, six businesses in all torched.

the outrage after the police shot and killed an armed man after a traffic stop. >> he had a gun in his hand. now the police officer didn't know it at the time, but there were 23 rounds in that gun. >> police say the suspect, now being identified as seville smith, took off. the officer giving chase. investigators say that they ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, when he didn't comply at the fired hitting him in the chest and arm killing him. and tensions high after the police shooting of a mentally ill man, a black man. no charges for those involved. it hit a boiling point. >> we're not the ones killing us, you're all killing us. >> but in the light of morning the people wanted to send a different message. >> this is where we need to be. this is out reach here. >> your neighbor sees you and they may not be as courageous as

you. when they see you, maybe they grab that courage and come out and start sporting the efforts and cleaning up this city. >> abc news, milwaukee. tonight in georgia the search continues for a 24-year-old man who shot and killed a police officer. the suspect has been identified as rahim deeds, and officer tim smith tonighting to a suspicious person call last night. the investigators say he encountered deeds, exited his patrol car and was shot. and he was with the department five years and leaves behind children. and a new york city the police department's hate crimes traffic force looking into the shooting death of a muslim cleric and his associates. the two leaving a mosque yesterday afternoon when a gunman approached them from behind. the police have still not caught the shooter and are working to determine whether it was in fact a hate crime. more than 7,000 people rescued from devastating floods that swamped the area in and

around baton rouge, louisiana. emergency crews using specialized vehicles, boats and helicopters to get the victims to safety. from the air the homes look like tiny islands surrounded by flooded fields. roads are impassable. some traded in cars for canoes to get around. the louisiana governor, edwards is warning everyone the threat is not over. >> i do want to warn everybody that the ground is saturated, and even a typical afternoon thunderstorm has the potential to cause flooding, or recurrence of flooding in the areas that already experienced it. i want everyone to be mindful that and take the necessary precautions. of course, governor edwards declared a state of emergency, referring to the floods as unprecedented and historic. these floods are also being blamed for four deaths in the region. a wildfire in california growing tonight. in fact, it doubled in size as of late destroying four homes.

tonight as the frontal boundary makes progress to the south. we show you the picture outside. the action cam outside earlier today. from our wilmington camera, there in delaware, quite the light show in the sky. in fact, when we took this picture we actually had a severe warning. and the heat wave rolls on, this is heat wave number five and day five of the heat wave. it started out wednesday, high of 93. thursday's high 95. friday maxed out 97. 98 degrees saturday, that was the hottest day so far this year. and today in philadelphia coming in at 97. we still have a 90-degree heat index number here in philadelphia. 90 in wilmington. current heat index cape may 86.

80 a.c. and we are tracking this frontal boundary making progress to the south and east. it looks like the front will stay just to the south of philadelphia as we go throughout the day on monday. and the thunderstorm, or the shower threat of to the south in the city as well, if comparison to what we are seeing north and west over the weekend. and the dewpoint numbers track it the next four days. dewpoint number by monday in the upper 60s. peak to the lower 70s by tuesday. getting into wednesday and thursday, it will start to drop off. the humidity won't be as intense as it will start to lower getting into the middle half of the workweek and beyond. as you wake up tomorrow morning, definitely a warm and steamy start. futuretracker showing you 6:00 in the morning numbers along the 95 corridor feeling like 76 in philadelphia, 74 in trenton, 84 in wildwood, 70 in allentown. and the heat index 97, and 98
