the high so far in philadelphia coming in at 93 degrees. the humidity not as intensethouy oppressive outside. yesterday and over the weekend we had dewpoint numbers and heat indices topping the triple digits. heat index in philadelphia coming in at 98 ees. this is day six of heat wave number five here in philadelphia. the current heat index numbers 98 in philadelphia it feels like 103 in cape may. 103 as well in dover, current heater index in reading coming in at 92. unto the north inos. the excessive heat warning stays up. it has been extended until tuesday evening. right along that i-95 metro area and the immediate suburbs to the north and west also to the south and east. the heat and humidity certainly feeling some showers and storms across our region. here's storm tracker6 live double scan radar 3-d. you can see a lot of activity off to our south and west. we'll go in tighter on street level. we'll have to track some of this moisture as it works its way eastward some precipitation could skirt

leaving an abusive relationship, it's often a very dangerous time for a victim. so, we urge anyone who is in a similar situation to develop a safety plan. >> well, neighbors say that megan short had posted on social media before her death that she did plan to leave her husband and she was set to move out of that home. walter perez will have more on this story and all of the revelations that have just been announced today by the district attorney. that's coming up on "action news" at 5:00. sharrie. >> startling details. alicia thanks. the fate of pennsylvania's attorney general is in the hands of a jury. prosecutors and defense attorneys both made their closing arguments today in the perjury trial of kathleen kane. got this case. john. >> reporter: that is that is correct, about 10, 15 minutes ago, two very different versions of reality presented to the jury today in closing arguments. the prosecution stuck with its theory which is of course the crime was motivated by revenge and that there attorney general was at the center of it. the defense countered way version of events saying that the grand jury leak was the work of rogue advisers, one supposedly upset with kane, the other upset with a man named frank fina. the attorney general they say according to the defense knew nothing of the plot. in his closing d.a. kevin steele stuck to the prosecution theory that this was a simple crime that attorney general kathleen kane over jaw the illegal leaking of grand jury information that would appear in a daily news story to embarrass a former prosecutor frank fina. joseph mcgettigan in private practice is former prosecutor. >> pretty much put on the evidence they said they would during the course of the trial and kevin underlined a significant portions of the testimony. >> reporter: kane's legal team offered a radically different version of events and yes, kane wanted information concerning a 2009 investigated headed by fina in the press. it looked at naacp president

y mondesire but the defense maintained kane knew nothing about a grand jury leak instead a kane attorney told the jury the prosecution's primary witnesses former kane deputy adrian king and kane's political consultant joshua morrow had their own reasons to leak the information and then lie about it. >> the alternative theory was somehow josh morrow and adrian king conspired together but without her knowledge to leak this information and then subsequently cover it up. it just didn't make a whole lot of sense. they tried. that's what they had to do offer the jury something. >> reporter: again, the jury has the case at this point got it about 10 minutes to 4:00 it has a lot of evidence it's going to have to sift. there was it's going to have to decide if the attorney general of pennsylvania, kathleen kane, is guilty or not guilty. live in norristown, john rawlins channel6 "action news." brian. >> all right, we are on verdict watch now john. thanks very much. vice president joe biden hit the campaign trail in

scranton, pennsylvania, today. biden touted hillary clinton as uniquely qualified to be president of the united states. and offered up this blistering critique of donald trump. >> people say he lacks the temperament. i'd feel better if that's all he lacks. on every issue that matters most to our security, donald trump has no clue. >> trump meanwhile laid out his foreign policy plans today during a speech in ohio he. he said one of his first acts as president will be to establish a commission on radical islam. >> the goal of the commission will be to identify and explain to the american public the core convictions and beliefs of radical islam to identify the warning signs of radicalization and to expose the networks in our society that support radicalization. >> now trump said that destroying isis would be the centerpiece of his foreign policy and that clinton lacks "the mental and physical stamina to do it."

94 in millville but you notice at the coast it is a touch cooler. beach haven 85 and with that south facing wind in cape may coming in at 90, the upper 80's north and west of town for reading and allentown. dewpoint numbers have really been causing us trouble over the past few days. this is why the humidity feels so oppressive. right now we've got dewpoint temperatures in the upper 60's, lower 70's across the region. the humidity will start to lower. it won't be as oppressive as we get into the middle half of our work week. here's satellite6 along with action radar. you can see we've got some moisture out across central and western sections of pennsylvania down through the ohio valley as well. going have to track some of this moisture as it works its way eastward later on tonight because there could be a spotty shower mainly south of philadelphia. otherwise, the warm and sticky weather certainly continues here on our monday. that's the call from accuweather over the next 12 hours. tracking a spotty thunderstorm really south of philadelphia. otherwise, most spots stay dry. dropping down to 78 in philadelphia, 73 in allentown,

76 in cape may. the lower 70's in lancaster for the overnight low. fast forward into the day on tuesday and we have that heat index tracker because remember the excessive heat warning stays posted until tuesday evening, so as you wake up 88 clock in the morning that temperature already 87. keep in mind our average high for this time of year is 86 degrees so well above that. the peak of the heat and the feels-like numbers, 2 o'clock and 4:00 p.m. respectively with temperatures then around 105 degrees. that's how hot it will feel. not only do we have the heat and the humidity, the storm prediction center has placed parts of our region in a slight risk of finding some severe weather. it's really for portions in northeastern berks, lehigh, northampton counties, up through the poconos there is a slight risk of finding some drenching rain, gusty winds and the possibility of small hail. future tracker6 showing you 6 o'clock in the morning we could definitely find some showers and storms moving on through as that warm front lifts to the north. overnight tonight and throughout the day on tuesday.

and as we get into tuesday afternoon you could see we've got some spotty showers around the region especially for areas in south jersey, down across cape may county as well. we'll start to clear out by 7:30 on tuesday evening. here is that four day at 4:00. you could see well the steamy weather continues on tuesday. showers and storms a little bit more active than today, so we could have some activity in the morning with a high of 94 then an afternoon shower or storm as well. hot and not as humid, not as oppressive on wednesday for the ac air show and at 92 degrees, partly sunny on thursday, temperatures near 90 and 89 degrees as we get into friday. so, the humidity won't be as bad but the numbers certainly still on the high side for august. >> yeah, it's the humidity that makes it so awful. >> unbearable. >> happy to say goodbye to that. melissa thank you. >> still ahead a series of break-ins all targeting day cares. now police are trying to figure out if they're connected. we'll have a live report at 4:30. >> if you think it's hard to compete in triathlon imagine

>> a plan who ran a red light slammed into a car and killed a woman this morning in west oak lane. that's according to police who say they arrested the 22-year-old driver. the crash happened about 4:30 a.m. on 18th street. the driver accused of running that light was not hurt but there were three people in the car he hit.

a 47-year-old woman died. two other men both went to the hospital but they're expected to be okay. police have not told us the names of anyone involved just yet. they have also not said what charges have been filed. a mother accused of abusing her infant son is now had a second child removed from her care. the mother first spoke with "action news" earlier summer claiming that 20 fractures across her baby's body were due to a rare genetic disorder. wendy saltzman has a preview. >> reporter: jessica kept her second child's birth a secret from "action news" from her family and the state. saying she feared he, too, would be torn from her arms. >> i love my children. i would never hurt them. >> reporter: now she's facing our cameras again and allegations she's a serial abuser but is there another reason her second child also shows signs of an injury? >> i just want them to know that it's going to be proven that it's something medical and they can continue to fight but we're going to continue to fight, also. >> reporter: is this a case of mistaken abuse? you

decide. tonight at 11:00. >> a young boy from barrington new jersey is not letting a physical challenge keep him from competing in triathlon. today eight-year-old js who is blind got a chance to practice for an upcoming triathlon. it was the first time jp met his 13-year-old race partner carson while sporting his superhero helmet jp and carson tried out a tandem bike. the two practiced their swimming today as you saw. they will that compete in the kid's try three triathlon this weekend. good luck to both of them. artists and musicians could be one video away from their big break. phl live center stage kicks off today. it's an initiative spearheaded by the city of philadelphia to provide jobs and opportunities to local artists. now if you're interested you can upload a video of your performance today through september 30th. after that, the videos will be reviewed by leaders in the music industry.

>> ♪ >> "action news" continues with meteorologist adam joseph, alicia vitarelli, sharrie williams and brian taff. >> ♪ >> hello again. 4:30 now and "action news" continues with new details surrounding a crime spree targeting family owned businesses in philadelphia. >> plus, held at gun point and forced through the aisles of a store. police are searching for the gunman who targeted a dollar general employee. >> and changes could soon be coming to new jersey funeral homes. we'll explain the push to get rid of a decades old law coming up in big talkers. >> first at 4:30, eight different philadelphia day carened into crime scenes. they were all broken into over the weekend. police say the thief was after cash which ultimately impacts the children who use those facilities. happening, the suspects breaking into day cares where these kids go but the good news is the detectives think they know who they're looking for. stealing from kids. philadelphia police say that was the mo for a suspect during the weekend. northwest detectives captain malachi jones says they believe one man in particular is likely responsible for breaking into eight day cares across the district. >> we feel confident that we're close to catching this individual. right here you're seeing just some of the day cares that were hit and you have to ask the question, steal from kids? why? >> crime ofty. they just -- maybe they just have a fetish for the day care. >> reporter: in some cases nothing was taken. in others, cash. and as always happens. >> early morning hours. >> reporter: according to captain jones some kids at one particular day care won't be going on a summer trip now. >> this money was put aside designated for the kids to go on a trip and now it's taken

by this individual. trip's offer. >> reporter: again he says they think they've pin pointed their man. we spoke with a neir next to one of the day cares. she can't believe someone is stealing from kids. >> i don't think anyone should steal from anyone but sure kids are more vulnerable group. >> reporter: now, the crimes don't just stop here. captain jones tells me that across the city during the weekend there's been upwards of 20 day care break-ins and good news is they think they've got their man. for now reporting live bob brooks, channel6 "action news. >> all right, bob, thanks very much. philadelphia police are also investigating a double shooting in the city's logan section. it happened just before 10:30 this morning at mole and east wingohocking streets. police say two men were shot several times both rushed to einstein hospital. at last check they were in critical condition. police have not yet made any arrests. investigators are looking into a shooting in the

rhawnhurst section of philadelphia. police say a man was shot once in the leg just before 10 o'clock this morning. at the time he was inside a home on the 2300 block of ripley street. medics rushed him to the hospital. he is in stable condition. >> one of the men convicted of murdering a three-year-old in philadelphia was sentenced today. douglas woods will spend the next 17 to 34 years in prison. woods pleaded guilty to killing tynera borum. she was hit by a stray bullet in 2014. brandon ruffin was already sentenced to 40 years in prison for his role in same shooting. >> philadelphia police have arrested one of the men wanted for the armed break-ins at near al dozen asian owned businesses around the city. norman bowen is in jail now but police are still looking for anthony campbell. according to police campbell and bowen threatened people who lived inside the homes attached to the businesses at gun point. now some some cases the

victims were even tied up. the burglaries have been going on since may. a dollar general employee was opening a store in south philadelphia when she was attacked and held at gun point. startling surveillance video shows the armed man forcing her into the store with the gun pointed directly at her head. he eventually directed her to the safe which she was able to open. all of this happened one week ago at 6:00 a.m. along the 2100 block of south 23rd street. the robber got away with cash and is still on the run this afternoon. >> let's hope police make progress on these cases. all right, switching to our forecast, meteorologist melissa magee is here now and we can say it's another day of heat. >> yeah. >> yeah. just another day across the delaware and lehigh valleys. it is hot, it is sticky guys and we'll show you the picture outside because i'm sure that's where you'd wander to be or maybe a place in the shade outside. philadelphia international airport, that's where our sky6 live camera is pointed in hd. the temperature 93 degrees, the dewpoint at 69.

the winds out of the north-northwest at 13 miles per hour. that heat index coming in at 98 degrees. down the shore, much better spot there on a very humid monday. 90 degrees the current air temperature. we've got a nice sea breeze coming in, the dow will dewpoint at 77. a lot of moisture in the air. east to southeasterly breeze at 9 miles per hour. the ocean temperature in the upper 60's certainly not as warm as it was a few weeks ago. current dewpoint number in philadelphia is 69. same thing in washington, d.c., 74-degree dewpoint number in richmond, virginia. you factor that in, the heat and the humidity feels like 98 in the city, 104 in washington, d.c., 105 as we get into richmond, virginia. so, we do have some headlines. the humidity spikes tomorrow even though we didn't dahave a bit of a respite today, certainly wasn't as oppressive today as it was yesterday. drenching downpours are likely as we go throughout the day tomorrow. it's a little bit more active of a day and we have some midweek relief coming. we'll let you know how long that is sticking around and how high that temperature will actually go as we get into

wednesday. details, guys, coming up with the accuweather forecast. >> okay. >> we'll take what we can get. >> i guess we will. >> we have no choice. >> melissa thanks. if you were stuck in traffic this morning along the southbound lanes of the new jersey turnpike, well, this may explain why. a piece of construction equipment fell off of a vehicle there blocking one of the lanes near exit two in east greenwich township. no one was injured but the incident caused a number of delays. >> students at more than 40 philadelphia schools will have new water fountains in time for the start of the school year. the school district is spending a million dollars to install special hydration stations ensuring the schools now have safe drinking water. this announcement comes as the district retests for lead contamination. every school will have three of these new water fountains by the end of the school year. apple is cel is set to unves newest iphone model in a matter of weeks and a new report out from the tech world shows the company could be taking a different approach to

raheem deeds was arrested early this morning during a traffic stop near jacksonville. deputies found the 24-year-old hiding in the trunk of his sister's car. well, he's charged with shooting officer tim smith to death early saturday morning. deeds' sister and her boyfriend are also now facing charges. to maryland now where the heat is hampering the recovery mission at the site of a deadly apartment explosion. today searchers recovered a sixth body at the site. more than 30 people were injured when the building burst into flames five days ago and as many as seven are still unaccounted for. investigators are still trying to determine the exact. >> a philadelphia hotel is among at least 20 locations nationwide that may have been targeted by hackers. hotel operator lei says it's investigating a breach at the west tin philadelphia from early december through late june. over that time they say mal war may have collected guest's
