another very hot day. humidity though is down a notch from over the weekend. everything is relative, not quite as intense as saturday. saturday's high 98 with a heat index 111. today so far the high 93 degrees with a heat index of 98 degrees in philadelphia. day six and counting of our heat wave and the current heat index shows you actually philadelphia now the heat index is 97 degrees and we do have higher heat indices down tots south. dovesouth -- to the south. dover and millville feel like 102. we got a break from the humidity today but it will come back with a vengeance tomorrow. the national weather service has issued an excessive heat warning for the i-95 corridor really all the counties surrounding i-95 through tomorrow and the outlying areas under an excessive heat advisory tomorrow. storm tracker6 live double scan showing what's happening tomorrow, we have a warm front that's going to be pressing through so ahead of this warm front we do have some thunderstorms developing across maryland, central

pennsylvania, trying to work to the east. so later on tonight early tomorrow morning we could have some thunderstorms and i think we'll have more thunderstorms later in the day tomorrow. so this is what to expect tomorrow. this will really be the line say of extreme heat. wednesday temperatures could touch 90 but the heat index won't be as bad but tomorrow the heat index again dangerously hot, 100 to 105 with some heavy thunderstorms around. i'll have more details on the timing and talk about that relief on the way in the accuweather forecast. sharrie. >> all right, cecily, thank you. meantime people in central jersey are in for a little relief now that their power has been restored. residents in and around stockton hunterdon county were left in the heart for most of the weekend as heat index dipped into the triple digits. some had to get rid of everything in. >> i lost meat. i lost sausage. my son made sausage and stuff. wwe had to throw it all away.

online at 6abc.com. >> we are learning more about the motive behind a murder-suicide in berks county earlier this month. police have stayed largely silent about the shooting that left a family of five dead inside their home until this afternoon. lehigh vy correspondent walter perez is live in reading with the new information. walter. >> reporter: well, sharrie authorities here in berks county paint very dark of the event leading up to an unspeakable crime that occurred on the very day that the mother was ready to walk away from her abusive relationship. berks county district attorney john adams says it's one of those cases that has a profound effect on the entire community. >> this is a very tragic incident that took place in our community and we hope we can heal and move on. >> reporter: today the d.a. confirmed that it was in fact mark short who murdered his

wife three young children and the fall dog before turning the gun on himself inside the family home in syncing spring earlier this movement investigators also confirm that mark short was the author of the murder-suicide note left on the dining ream table. the contents of which were not released. >> at the request of the family they wish that we not release the couldn't debts of the letter other than the fact that he admitted to buying the gun and he did commit the homicide. >> reporter: now, megan short's family told authorities that mark and megan had a troubled marriage but she only called police one time. megan told responding officers that she was afraid of her husband but she did not press charges. >> we advised her on how to get a protection from abuse order. in fact she did say she was going to get one the next day but she never followed through. >> reporter: that incident occurred on july 18th. the next day mark short bought a gun. then on saturday august 6th, the day megan short planned on moving with her children to an apartment in yardley, investigators say mark short used one bullet each to murder his entire family and then committee suicide. d.a. john adams says nothing good can come of a tragedy

like this except for sound advice for anyone planning to leave an abusive relationship. >> we urge anyone who is in a similar situation to develop a safety plan and contact their local domestic violence agency for assistance. >> reporter: megan short by the way had also started the process of becoming legally separated from her husband. meanwhile a funeral mass for megan, eight-year-old leanna five-year-old mark jr. and two-year-old willow was held on friday. reporting live from reading, walter perez channel6 "action news." rick. >> walter thank you. new at 5:00 tonight, philadelphia police and the fbi are offering a reward for your help tracking down this bank robbery suspect. just after 5:30 p.m. on friday, the man on your screen entered the td bank near 19th and market streets saying he had a gun and demanding money. the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. he was last seen wearing a red shirt gray sweat pants and a black basketball cap.

he is considered armed and dangerous. in delaware, police have just released surveillance photos in hopes of finding the gunman who shot a 64-year-old woman in the leg. the shooting happened just after 9 o'clock this morning near the 600 block of west sixth street in wilmington. "action news" reporter chad pradelli has been following the investigation and he's live at wilmington police headquarters with the suspect police are looking for at this hour. chad. >> reporter: yeah, rick, that victim was shot at her place of business like you said just after 9 o'clock this morning. for much of the day investigators had very little to release but again like you mentioned here within the last hour they released surveillance images of the suspect. wilmington police are looking for this man, captured on surveillance video this morning outside the west centreville latch rental community. a rental company that provides low income housing in wilmington. coworkers have identified the victim as linder foamer who was working at the company. police say the suspect walked through these doors and shot the 64-year-old woman in the

leg. he was last seen fleeing on foot from the crime scene at sixth and jefferson. >> she's a good friend of mine and she's a very nice lady so i came up here to check on her. >> reporter: police say former was treated on scene by new castle county paramedics then transported to christiana hospital where at last check she was in stable condition. >> it's heartbreaking. these are people who working and trying to make their money. >> reporter: and at last check there was no word on motive. if you know who the man is in that surveillance -- those surveillance images you're urged to call wilmington police. live in wilmington, chad pradelli channel6 "action news." >> all right, chad, thank you. the fate of pennsylvania's attorney general is now up to a montgomery county jury. the case was handed over to the six man, six woman panel today in norristown. the democrat stands accused of leaking confidential grand jury information to the press and then lying about it. the prosecution called several witnesses to the stand last

week to testify against kane. kane's attorneys rested without having anyone called to give testimony. >> all right. time now for a check of our "action news" traffic report monday night. >> all right, let's go lie to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. hi, matt. >> hi, matt. >> again not the most comfortable afternoon to be stuck in a traffic jam that's for sure rick and sharrie but we've will some of them out there. on the westbound schuylkill it's been pretty much a solid line from the roosevelt boulevard through this point at gulf mills where we still have the remnants of an accident on the gore point. although he speeds on the westbound schuylkill are starting to improve and the same is true of westbound 422 where there was a crash in the pottstown area with that accident now gone, you're climbing into the 30's. so, it's getting better. stick with it headed westbound on 422. had a broken down truck it's brakes actually locked up on the northeast extension northbound by quakertown so that was giving us big delays but it cleared out so speeds there are on the uptick as well but a vehicle ran off the road in mantua township gloucester county right off of 55 past 553.

process. abc's elizabeth hur is live in new york tonight with those details. elizabeth. >> reporter: well, rick and sharrie, good evening to you and here's what we know right now. at least six people have been killed and we know 10,000 people are now in shelters but that number is expected to grow because according to the red cross, even at this hour, rescuers are busy at work. >> 911. >> reporter: with helicopters in the air and high water vehicles on the ground, rescuers are working around the clock and resident residents. since saturday tens of thousands have been seeking safety including this woman and her dog rescued just in time. >> i got you. >> reporter: shelters now home for so many wit

violent unrest after the fatal shooting of an armed black plan by a black police officer on the city's north side. sylville smith's family held a vigil and also pleaded with the public to protest peacefully. 11 men and three women were arrested in last night's protests. >> four health officials say the number -- florida health officials say the number of people affected with zika virus from mosquitos has hit 30. two more cases were reported from mime dee mee dade county today. the health department says it still believes a square mile section of miami dade county is the only place where these transmissions have occurred. pope francis says he's hopeful women who suffer from violence at the hands of men will find justice. the pontiff spoke in saint peter's square today on a catholic holiday honoring mary. today he lamented the violence women are forced to endure around the world. he also prayed that women in suffering will soon find a

life of peace and love. >> stocks closed at record highs across-the-board today led by gains for energy companies. the dow jones the nasda the s & p 500 all hit their highest points ever at the closing bell. it's the second time in less than a week the market post add major rally. the dow climbed nearly 60 points on the day the nasdaq gaining more than 29 and the s & p 500 climbing six and change. a waterproof iphone could soon become a reality. apple was recently granted a patent for technology that makes sure pictures taken under water stay vivid and maintain a certain color composition. that could be a sign that the company has plans for either water resistant or waterproof gadgets. the iphone seven is due out in september. >> coming up tonight at 11 o'clock, a mother accused of abusing her infant son has now had a second child removed from her care.

>> time for accuweather at the "action news" big board. >> meteorologist cecily tynan has the forecast and the beach looks great behind you but we also know it's hot. >> it is hot but at the beach you're getting a sea breeze now. the ocean temperature in the 70's so that's pretty refreshing. we're live on sky6 taking a look in atlantic city. a lot of people lined up right along that water to get that sea breeze kind of dip their feet in the ocean. again that ocean temperature seventy six las73, last week wed temperatures in the 80's. cape may currently 86, beach haven 84, philadelphia 93, allentown trenton 90 and wilmington 93 degrees. heat wave day six but dewpoints show you that this is why it doesn't feel quite

as intense as it did on saturday. saturday we had dewpoints in the upper 70's, even around 80 in some areas. philadelphia right now the dewpoint is 68 degrees so it's humid but not oppressive but we do have higher dewpo along the coast and also central delaware but what happens overnight and tomorrow. a warm front moves in and that will bring us oppressive humidity yet again. satellite6 along with action radar showing there's low pressure over the ohio valley and there's that warm front. as that warm front lifts through our region it will bring us a big increase in dewpoints and it could also kick off a few showers and thunderstorms overnight. so, tonight warm and sticky, a spotty thunderstorm possible, 72 in the suburbs, 78 degrees for center city. and tomorrow the heat index tracker showing yet again it is going to be dangerously hot. by noon, it's feeling like 100, two and 4 o'clock 105, even by 6 o'clock, still feeling above 100, so yet again take it easy.

this will be a full week of heat and humidity. and then we have the cold front moving in late in the day so because of that the severe storm prediction center has put basically the lehigh valley, the poconos areas north at a slight risk of severe weather. what this means, any thunderstorm could have damaging winds and could even have hail. so, future tracker showing tomorrow morning lots of clouds in place and as we led through the day we will see some more spotty shower and thunderstorm activity wng into the afternoon into the evening hours as well. with that cold front behind that front humidity levels will drop on wednesday. so, relief is on the way. we just have to be patient. the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow it will be steamy with afternoon thunderstorms, 94 degrees but the heat index above 100. wednesday likely still in the heat wave day eight but humidity will be dropping through the day, 92 degrees. on thursday partly sunny, 89, heat wave should be over, the same on friday, 89. saturday it gets more humid, 89 and sunday temperatures

"action news" has learned that authorities believe one man is likely responsible for break-ins at generations day care, the occur use little mind and kids are fit facilities, all located along germantown avenue. five other day cares were targeted as well. in some of the cases nothing was

in others, cash was stolen. according to northwest detectives captain jones some kids at one particular day care won't be going on a summer trip now unfortunately. >> this money was put aside designated for the kids to go on a trip noun it's take -- andw it's taken from this individual. >> i don't think anyone should steal from anyone. but kids are a more vulnerable group. >> investigators say city wide there were more than 20 day care break-ins this weekend. detectives reviewing surveillance video from the day care to positively identify the suspect tonight. if you have information about the break-ins police would like to hear from you. >> two men are fighting for their lives tonight after they were shot this morning in philadelphia's logan section. this happened around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of mole and east wingohocking street. detectives say the victims were hit several times. both were rushed to einstein hospital for treatment and are said to be in critical condition. it's still not clear who shot them or why.

from our new jersey news room now, a man was shot in the 800 block of esant avenue. it's not clear how bad there will person is injured or if ans in custody. >> a plan who reportedly ran a red light slammed into a car and killed a woman this morning in west oak lane. the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. here on 66th avenue near 18th street. a 4ar-old woman in the van died at the scene. three other people in the van were also injured. the driver who reportedly caused the crash was not hurt. investigators have not released what charges will be filed in the case. "action news" is on sharply road in talleyvillew cay a

garbage truck hit some low hanging wires and ended up bringing down several utility poles. and that knocked out power to about 30 customers and air conditioning on this very hot

[laughter] >> we're moving at a nation leisurely pace in honor of national relaxation day on 422 westbound rick and sharrie. it's normal afternoon volume just slowing us down passing oaks headed out towards phoenixville and collegeville this afternoon. earlier delays westbound near pottstown have cleared out. we've had another accident on the northeast extension, this one northbound at&t approaching lansdale. it's taking out the right lane but at this point speeds don't seem to be impacted the way they were by that earlier broken down truck up around quakertown. in ambler still working on those downed inquires wires by saint joseph's roman catholic church along spring guards street at popular street. some jams there in ambler along butler pike as a result. we have jams because of a broken down tractor-trailer in weswest windsor mercer county. speeds in the teens. mantua township gloucester county still have that accident involving a vehicle that ran off the road way. all the activity is on the shoulder but some slow speeds there as you head northbound toward deptford. and we have got new updated schedules on four of the septa regional rail lines affected this morning. warminster media elwyn west trenton and lansdale doylestown lines all on new schedules as of today. rick and sharrie, enjoy the rest of your national relaxation day. >> we will try. >> we'll do our westbound. >> matt, thanks. a dangerous situation out west continues to grow and shows no signs of stopping. still to come on "action news," what's being done to stop wildfire from taking out even more buildings and homes. >> also a little boy from south jersey is proving that

>> a sixth body has been found at the site of an apartment building that exploded in maryland. this happened last wednesday in silver spring. more than 30 people were injured including three firefighters. officials warn the death toll could rise because there are still seven people unaccounted for. investigators are still trying to determine the cause of that blast. some residents reported smelling gas before the explosion. >> we are now getting a look at what a raging wildfire did in one town in california. several buildings and cars are completely charred here in lower lake. it's located about 90 miles north of san francisco. sows othousands of residents ren evacuated. the fire has burned 3,000 acres and is only 5 percent contained.

heat indices topping triple digits throughout the day on tuesday. current heat index number in philadelphia coming in at 97. 102 in dover. 99 in wilmington i should say, 93 in allentown. so, yeah, the heat index is sticking around but certainly not as harsh as it was over the weekend. remember in dover we had a heat index on saturday of 120 so certainly not that oppressive today. still up there. here's satellite6 along with action radar. you can see we've got some precipitation that we're tracking back through central sections of pennsylvania and also the ohio valley. this will work its way eastward as we go throughout the rest of tonight. in fact, tomorrow we will be tracking a warm front lifting northward. so, over the next 12 hours it's warm and sticky watching out for an isolated or spotty thunderstorm. overnight low in the suburbs dropping down to 72 and 78 in philadelphia. here's the setup for us on our tuesday. we're tracking this warm front that will be lifting to the north tomorrow. so, early in the day for the early morning commute wouldn't be surprised if we had a pop-up shower or thunderstorm

"action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is covering the effects of this prolongd heave. we'll check in with her in a moment. first meteorologist cecily tynan and an excessive heat warning remains in effects for parts of the delaware valley tonight. >> and tomorrow definitely, rick. we are now on day six of our heat wave. today's high officially 94 degrees. we had dewpoints in the 60's so the heat index got up to 99 degrees which is certainly high but not as intense as over the weekend on saturday remember our heat index maxed out at 111. so, the current heat index has dropped to 96 in philadelphia, millville still 100, dover 102, reading and allentown 92 and trenton 94 degrees, so the heat indices not as intense as it has been. the problem, though, tomorrow it's just going to be as hot but it's going to be noticeably more humid. so, an excessive heat warning has been posted for the i-95 corridor outlying areas, it's going to be hot there as well with a heat advisory and what's going on, there's a
