"action news" reporter, has the very latest on the investigation tonight. >> reporter: the grim reality is someone is dead and stuffed inside of one of those garbage cans. it's a disturbing discovery made this afternoon on 22nd street in wilmington, a neighborhood where you can see children play openly and a charter school is just steps away. parents say this kind of crime here has got to stop. >> so many things have been going on in this city of wilmington, delaware, or killaware as they calm it. -- call. >> reporter: she heard pounding on her door. >> they asked did i hear anything? when i opened the door, i seen

brooks, "channel 6 action news." rick? >> reporter: thanks, bob. in camden county this evening, chopper 6 was over the scene in clementon. one person was killed. five others injured after two cars collided during the evening rush. one of the cars slammed into a pole. no word on the extent of the injuries or the identity of the passenger who did not survive. in another crash tonight injured four people when this car slammed into a house. three of the victims were people inside the home. it all happened in wilmington along the 900 block of north spruce street. police say two cars collided sending one of them veering off into several parked cars and then into the side of a house. fortunately, though, no one was seriously hurt. this just in from our new jersey newsroom this evening. governor chris christie has issued an executive order it make money available for "absolutely essential road

projects." construction work ground to a halt last week when the state's transportation trust fund dried up amid political fighting. the governor and legislature could not reach a deal about raising the state's gas tax. christie says no evident progress on legislation has been made. concerned residents came together tonight in the germantown neighborhood where a 6-year-old boy was caught in the crossfire and shot nearly a dozen times last week. while the youngster continues to fight for his life, the boy's mother is desperately seeking justice and an end to the violence. christie ileto is live at the hospital tonight where that little boy is still being treated. christie. >> reporter: rick, tonight we heard from the boy's mother. you didn't have to be apparent -- a parent to hear the anguish in her voice. her son is alert and talking but has a very long roa recovery. choking back tears, mrs. brown

double scan. >> we have storms moving into our region. we need the rain but we don't need the severe weather. and the national weather service has issued a severe weatherstorm warning for southern new castle county and all of kent county, delaware, until 11:45. that's because this line of storms can come with 60-mile-an-hour wind gusts and even small hail. and we're really zoomed in on double scan live. and in the past 15 minutes we've had 76 lightning strikes. this whole complex is moving over route 13 between middletown and dover. and you can see a little bit of the bowing out. that's indication we are getting rushing wind. i think between smyrna and dover it's the strongest. if it stays together, it will be moving into cumberland county, new jersey, and southern salem county as well. so don't be surprised if you hear that rumble of thunder. it expands up to the north, but just in the form of generally a

reliable service." former republican montgomery county commissioner and district attorney bruce castor is officially the acting attorney general in pennsylvania tonight having been sworn in to succeed kathleen kane. kane stepped down at the end of business today as she awaits sentencing in october for her conviction on perjury and obstruction charges. the first woman elect the to the state's top law enforcement post says she was proud of the work her office did and she called today bittersweet. >> i want to say to pennsylvanians, i have been truly honored to serve them. it has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. >> kane refused to comment on the verdict after being found guilty on monday, she vowed to appeal. meantime, she cannot practice law since her license has been suspended. >> somebody has told me that your future is always better than your past. so you know, we're going to move on. i want people to know i'm okay. the boys are okay. >> voters will elect a new attorney general in november.

bruce castor will serve in january when that person is sworn in or until governor tom wolf names a fill-in. donald trump has received his first classified intelligence briefing just hours after saying he doesn't trust america's intelligence agencies over the past ten years. this is the republican nominee pulling up to the fbi field office in new york city where respent two hours learning about current and emerging threats from national security officials. trump was allowed to bring two advisers. he chose new jersey governor chris christie as one of them. this also comes hours after trump met with a roundtable of advisers to discuss security issues including ideas for fighting islamic terrorism. at the table, a new campaign manager and a new ceo. for his campaign. it comes in the shakeup at the top of his -- of his candidacy. those close to the candidate say these moves mean he does not plan to change his brash and controversial style.

meanwhile, hillary clinton brushed off trump's new campaign staff saying he can hire and fire anyone he wants but he's still the same man and has "shown us who he is." said clinton, "there is no new donald trump. this is it." at this rally in cleveland, the democratic presidential nominee also accused trump of trying to cut taxes for the superwealthy. she mecheed again not to -- pledged again not to raise taxes on middle class earners. well, no word yet on funeral arrangements for john timoney. the former philadelphia police commissioner died after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. timoney led the city's police force from 1998 to 2001. before that, he worked for the new york police department and most recently he was chief of police in miami. in fact, it was in florida where timoney was rushed to the hospital after suffering complications while at home. for those who knew him best, john timoney will best be remembered as simply a tough irish guy with a big heart. he was 68.

it was a terrifying trip at sea for more than 500 passengers aboard a ship that caught fire. flames sparked in an engine room as the caribbean fantasy traveled from san juan, puerto rico, to santa doe minko. the u.s. coast guard rushed to the rescue. then the captain ordered the crew and passengers to abandon ship. more than a dozen were treated for broken bones, smoke inhalation, dehydration and shock. it hit hard. it hit fast. it hit with an intensity we've never seen before. that's the sentiments of veteran firefighters battling a raging fire in california. the blue cut fire has spread across 47 square miles engulfing homes and forcing more than 82,000 people to evacuate. to the north of this location, the so-called clayton fire is still burning. so far it has claimed 175 homes, businesses, and 4,000 acres. arson investigators say this man, damon paschic, set the

wildfire in all 10,000 firefighters are fighting the eight ongoing blazes in california. and developing from brazil tonight, american olympic swimmers jack conger and gunner bentz were removed from their return flight to the u.s. by brazilian authorities. this comes hours after a judge ordered ryan lochte and jimmy fagan to stay in the country. police are investigating the claim that they were all robbed at gunpoint on sunday. police say they have found little evidence so far to support their accounts. and investigators say the swimmers were unable to provide key details in police interviews. lochte already flew out of rio and is back in the u.s. tagson believed to still be in brazil. the mother of a college student accused of killing a couple and biting the victim's face says drugs were not to became. she says her 19-year-old son austin had been acting strangely

for days before he allegedly killed a man and his wife in florida on monday. she says he claimed to have superpowers before storming out of a restaurant after a fight with his father. the suspect is hospitalized, in stable condition, but investigators have not been able to talk to him because of a breathing tube. and they've not yet found any trace of drugs in his system. on "healthcheck" at 11:00 tonight, as if we need another reason to put on the pounds, a new study finds obesity may damage your brain. the university of cambridge research looked at people between the ages of 20 and 87. middle age people who were overweight or obese had brains that resembled someone 10 years older. they had less white matter, which is highlighted in yellow in the brain scans. white matter links regions of the brain together. but it's too early to say what kind of effect this has and if the brain degeneration can be reversed when people actually lose weight.
