good afternoon rick and sara are off i'm matt o'donnell. in the news, new information after two transit buses collided in new jersey. and olympic swimmer, ryan lochte who managed to flee brazil is now apologizing but the big story on "action news" is a crash that injured two children and adults. police say that a pickup truck and a trailer collided. delaware state police and a passerby helped to rescue the child who was trapped in a car seat. it happened on route 40 and 896, what is where chad pradelli joins us live. good morning chad. >> reporter: hey matt, the accident scene obviously has been cleared. this accident happened at 2:00 a.m. and i just got off the phone with one of two good samaritans that helped to rescue the child.

she pulled up here and saw the accidents, the car, i should say pickup truck was engulfed in flames. the 6-year-old boy was trapped in the backseat. he had some sort of seatbelt on and couldn't get out. that is when one of good samaritans grabbed the fire extinguisher in the tractor trailer involved in the crash and used it to the smash the window and still the child was stuck that is when a delaware state trooper pulled up to the scene and he began to try to get the child out and the pickup truck was engulfed in flames and i am told that the child was literally in flames on his back. he is now at dupont hospital. the others were taken to local hospitals and i am told that all are in stable condition. the male and female in the

pickup truck are since released. we don't know the relationship to the child but that child at last check remains at dupont ai opt in stable condition. the crash is under investigation, but preliminary reports show that it appears that the pickup truck may have crossed over to the on coming traffic on 896 causing the collision. chad pradelli, channel 6 "action news." >> quite a story thank you. we are following developing news out of newark, new jersey, two nj transit buses collided leaving one bus driver dead. 19 other people were injured. first responders had to pull many passengers from the wreckage and newark's mayor says the cause is under investigation. >> we are praying for the folks in the hospital, that they get a speedy recovery. >> police think that one of the new jersey transit buses ran a red light and collided with the

other bus at high speed. our lengthy heat wave broke yesterday but our days of below 90 temperatures will not last long at all. this is a live look from sky 6 hd from atlantic city, new jersey, a place to seek relief. melissa magee is live outside in for david murphy. >> reporter: we had a nice reprieve from the 90 degree heat. the heat wave officially came to an end yesterday. right now in philadelphia, coming in at 86 degrees, and 82 in reading and 81 at the coast in cape may. and 84 in beach haven, but right now we are picking up a northerly or northwesterly wind and dew point numbers are still high but the humidity is moderately humid across the region. dew points in the upper 60s and lower 70s across much of the delaware and lehigh valley. that is dropping into next week. we'll show you satellite 6 along

with action radar, it's dry across our region work have a nice mixture of clouds and sunshine and most location should stay dry for the rest of tonight. speaking of tonight, the phils are at home. first pitch at 7:05, it's warm and some humidity is around, first pitch 85 degrees and the ninth inning, a number of about 79 degrees. we have you covered today if are you at the shore, city or the poconos, on this get away friday. at the shore, 84 degrees and sunshine and clouds and maybe a sea breeze front moving on through. and a shower or thunderstorm as we go through afternoon. the city getting close to 91 degrees and it's hot and we still have the humidity overhead and not as oppressive as it has been. up in the poconos, a mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 81 degrees. we talked about the end of heat wave number five, but we are tracking more 90 weather into the weekend. we'll let you know how long that sticks around in the full

the red cross say that the devastating flood in louisiana is the worst national disaster to strike the u.s. since hurricane sandy four years ago. at least 13 people are died and thousands of homes have been destroyed. more than 31 inches of rain fell in some areas in just 15 hours. at least 85,000 people have registered for federal disaster assistance. firefighters are making progress battling the wild fire near los angeles. the blue cut fire scorched 56 square miles. people are ignoring evacuation orders and called 911 for help and crews are not always able to reach the homes. >> we don't like losing homes and it's challenging to be up against a fire that is burning so aggressively and we are struggling to keep up with it. >> another fire broke out in

rural santa barbara county. that prompts the vacsation of two cam many ground. they want seven officers to be fired. saying they lied in their reports of a deadly shooting two years ago. it shows laquan mcdonald with his back turned to police when one officer shot him 13 times. he says that it contradicted what the seven officers wrote in their official reports, say that the teen posed an imminent threat but he was armed with a knife. a clerk at a cell phone store in north jersey out smarted the bad guy, they walked into the store in patter ton with one pointing the gun at the clerk. but while they loot the items, the clerk when out the back door and then pulled down the

a federal judge has thrown out a $100 million settlement between uber and its drivers. a group of drivers in california and massachusetts sued uber saying the company exploited them by treating them as independent contractors instead

so melissa we had one day break from the heat wave. that is just not enough. >> you'll have to take it that is all we are getting. the 90s make a come back today and into the weekend. here is what is going on. stormtracker 6 live double scan you see it's dry in philadelphia, no issues with precipitation really across the delaware and lehigh valleys. it's not terribly humid and the action cam was outside earlier today. there in fairmount park looking at the beautiful horticultural center. and a fair amount of cloud cover overhead as well. in philadelphia, 86 degrees and 83 in trenton and 76 in the poconos and at the coast in cape may, 82 and 82 degrees in reading but look at this map. the winds are either northerly

or northwesterly across the region so the humidity isn't terrible. not as oppressive as it has been across the region. the current heat index in philadelphia 89 and hot in dover 95 and current number in lancaster, 84. here is satellite 6 along with action radar it's dry and quiet across much of the mid-atlantic region, across our area as well. a fair amount of cloud cover to the south and west. a nice mixture of clouds and sunshine throughout the day today. fast forward into the rest of our friday here, we have a mostly sunny skies and rather muggy and a high temperature of 91 degrees, if we are close to 91 we are back in the 90s after having a one day break from the heat and humidity putting an ends to heat wave number five. as we go through the start of the weekend, you see the high temperature tomorrow coming in at 90 degrees and we track the cold front working as we

eastward, i would not be surprised to have a pop-up shower or thunderstorm because it will be hot again with a high of 90 degrees and hazy hot and humid and storms firing up. the better chance of find that activity is saturday night into sunday as the powerful cold front moves on through, eventually it lowers the dew points. nice sea breeze for some locations today, and saturday high of 82 and sunday a high of 84 degrees it will be humid and we are track that front that moves on through, so a shower or storm is likely. especially by day's ending and the ocean temperature is 71. up in the poconos today, certainly not bad. mostly sunny skies and comfortable conditions and high of 81 and warm and humid for saturday and 81 degrees and showers and storms firing up especially as we go throughout the day, some of which could be on the gusty side on sunday, and humidity in the air and drenching downpours a big concern by then, a high

temperature of 75. here is the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. mostly sunny and clouds mixing in as well. a hot day at 91 degrees, hot and humid on saturday, in at 90, then humid on sunday, a high of 88 degrees, the gusty showers and storms moving on through, we have to watch the temperatures closely on sunday and could be close to 90, it could be another heat wave in the region, less humid and a much nicer day. a high temperature of 84 degrees and beautiful on tuesday, and beautiful sunshine and high of 82 and tuesday and wednesday we expect dew points in the 40s. that means we have got not an ounce of humidity those days. and thursday matt, a high temperature of 89 degrees. so long relief is coming into next week. >> that does look pretty good. thanks melissa, there is more ahead on "action news" at noon, customs agents caught someone smuggling dried sea creatures into france.
