driver to get stuck. in chinatown, umbrellas went up as the rain came down. at the end of it all, a rainbow made an appearance along with relief from the extreme heat and humidity. sunday night and the big story tonight is the cooler temperatures on the way. walter: things are going to feel a lot more comfortable as we begin the work week. melissa magee is live with details. melissa: we've got a nice air mass change on the way for the start of our work week and it's all because of this cold front that's starting to exit our region. before it came in and before it moved out, we had rainfall totals that were pretty high across the region. dover, 1.89 inches of rain for you. record rainfall today in redding. little more than an inch in wilmington. half an inch of precipitation reported today in philadelphia.

here's why. double scan radar is showing you the wet weather from new england all the way down across the mid atlantic region starting to exit to the east. there are showers to the south and east of buffalo and also cleveland, ohio. most locations should stay dry with just an isolated leftover shower overnight. temperatures east of the 95 corridor and along the 95 corridor, 76 in philadelphia, 76 in pittsburgh. dew points really tell the story for the rest of tonight and into the day on monday. up and down the 95 corridor east of the appalachian,s still in the lower 70s. the 50s are just to the north and west and are heading our way. so humidity wiped away tomorrow. breezy. beautiful. we will stay dry right through midweek. we'll let you know more in your seven day forecast.

walter: thank you. storms led to minor flooding in parts of camden tonight. a driver got stuck trying to drive through high water. it also caused issues on the new jersey transit river line where crews temporarily had to suspend service. stay with us for the latest forecast. sarah: one person is dead and another in critical condition following a house fire in the city's germantown section. it started after 6:00 tonight at a home near east germantown avenue. jeff cherico is there live

tonight. >> we kicked down a window. opened a door. >>reporter: when they saw smoke pouring from a home they jumped into action. >> were screaming and trying to get them to let us know where they were. >> one lady fell down the steps and we could not get to her. >>reporter: because of the thick smoke, they had to wait for emergency crews who rescued a woman from the first floor and a man from the second. >> pulled a guy out and tried to do cpr on the roof but it wouldn't work. they brought him down to the ambulance. we have a report that two of them were critically injured and three were taken for smoke inha inha inha inhale -- inhalation. >> i was just hoping she wasn't in the house but if she was, my prayers are with them. >>reporter: investigateders looked for clues as to the cause

of the fire. >> we tried our best but it's hard knowing we couldn't get to her in time. >>reporter: three others who walked out of that burning home were treated and released. it's not clear what started the flames but sources say it's not suspicious. firefighters worked so quickly they were able to contain the flames and neighbors are able to stay in their homes tonight. sarah: jeff, thank you. lightening is to blame for a fire that damaged two homes late this afternoon. it happened around 4:00 o'clock along the 500 block of whispering trail in the spring mill community. residents reported seeing smoke coming from two houses. everyone was able to make it out safely. no one was hurt. two firefighters were injured while fighting a garage fire this afternoon here in bucks county. flames could be seen shooting from the roof just after 2:00 o'clock just off of bristol pike.

officials say one firefighter was rush rushed to the hospital with burns and a second firefighter suffered a medical emergency because he's diabetic. walter: firefighters rescued a woman this morning from an apartment fire in derby. flames broke out on the 100 block of north third street. police couldn't access the apartment because of the heavy smoke and flames. >> the search crew forced entry into the locked door and found her in the bathroom in the bathtub and pulled her out. walter: the woman described only as being in her 30st was rushed to penn hospital in stable condition. sarah: police in burlington county continue to search for the suspect who shot and killed a man and injured a young child around 7:00 o'clock last night on the 100 block of east federal street. officers have been actively searching for the gunman. trish hartman has the latest.

>>reporter: this man is considered armed and dangerous, 26-year-old samuel james. he opened fire multiple times in a street full of people striking 24-year-old byron turner in the head killing him. >> one of my cousins called me on the phone, i've been knowing him since he was a baby. he wasn't a bad kid. >>reporter: it unfolded just before 7:00 p.m. saturday. officers searched for the suspect on the ground and in the air. police have issued a warrant for james' arrest and say his last known address was in burlington township. court records show he was arrested in iowa in april of this year and pleaded guilty after published reports quote local authorities as saying he chased down a man with a shotgun and threatened to kill him. in june he was sentenced to 20 days in jail. a group of children were lay playing outside near the shooting when it happened and ran inside once they heard gunshots. parentses say now they'll think

twice before letting their kids play outside. >> next thing i know i see flashing lights. i ran down there. my daughter was down there but they ran into the lady's house. they were scared. >>reporter: a 5 girl suffered minor injuries as she ran from the gun >> we want the community to speak to us. we want the community to speak up. so when there are things going on, we want them to tell us so that we can be out there. we want to be proactive. not reactionary. >>reporter: trish hartman, channel 6, action news if the. walter: after six hours on the run, delaware state police have captured an escaped prisoner. he was wearing handcuffs when he ran out of the troop 9 building this morning in odessa. he faces several charges. police say they found him hiding

in a wooded area behind the pleasant hill motel. a teen teenager was rushed to the hospital after he was shot. police say the 19 year old was shot in the stomach. no word if police have immediate any arrests in case. an investigation is underway after someone tried to rob a hotel in langhorn, bucks county. a man pulled out a gun and demanded money. apparently though he wasn't able to get any money and simply took off. sarah: tonight we learn more about the philadelphia woman who was hit and killed by a car while in her wheelchair. the driver took off. it happened early yesterday morning at masher street and lehigh avenue in north philadelphia. police have since arrested the 29-year-old driver and charged him with dui and homicide by vehicle. he's now being held on $1 million bond.

>>reporter: her belongings were scattered around the street after police say drunk driver andrew acito hit a 37-year-old homeless woman. this witness didn't wish to give her name but captured the moments after the hit-and-run crash. >> we were right here talking and i said i would see her tomorrow. >>reporter: residents have left momentos for the woman they say was a homeless amputee named elaine. >> it shocked me because i came through here, like, 3:00 o'clock yesterday around down the street. >> it's horrible. it does. she was a veteran and someone to just be able to get behind a wheel and drink and drive, you know, run over one of our veterans and then keep going. >>reporter: the driver apparently continued driving east on lehigh before allegedly hitting a second pedestrian, this time an 18 year old. he didn't stop to help her

either. he was eventually pulled over for running a red light. it was the 18 year old who was able to identify his white ford pickup truck as the vehicle that hit her. according to court records, the driver has a history of drunk driving behind the wheel and other motorcycle offenses. >> drinking and driving. >> horrible. it should be -- once you get caught drinking and driving once, that should be it. >>reporter: residents continue to leave items at this memorial saying that she did not deserve to die like this and that this is not the first time an accident like this has happened at this intersection. walter: the spotlight was on parents today at the young educated athletes community preeshth event this afternoon. the nonprofit teaches at risk kids life lessons and supports them all year round. today the group honored contributions made by parts

walter: officials in louisiana now say more than 60,000 homes were damaged in widespread flooding across the state. that is double the estimate from last week. officials say that number could rise even higher because there are still entire regions under water. the red cross says the flooding is the worst natural disaster to hit the u.s. since superstorm sandy back in 2012. the thousands of people forced out of their homes are beginning the long clean up process. >> it happened fast. it's sad. you do what you got to do. we saved a lot. thanks to him. and my brother. they put everything as high as they could. walter: goodness. 13 people were killed in the flooding at least and tonight more than 3,000 others are in shelters. president obama is set to visit louisiana come tuesday. crews gaining the upper hand

walter: . walter: the olympics have officially come to a close and the people of rio wrapped it up in the best way they know how, with a big party. the sights and sounds of brazil filled the stadium tonight as the athletes gathered one final time. the flame was extinguish extinguished and that's when the flame was handed over to tokyo. sarah: ryan lochte is -- he continues to try to explain what happened at a brazilian gas station. initially he described it as an armed robbery. according to police lochte and three others vandalize the bathroom after a night of drinking. lochte is, again, taking responsibility for the mess. >> if i didn't overexaggerate

we'll show you the picture outside. the action cam was outside earlier tonight looking from the south street bridge at the center city sky line. it's a beautiful shot. we have a partly cloudy sky turning clear as we go throughout the overnight hours. 68 degrees in er. this is the line of activity we were tracking earlier from the mid atlantic region as well. it's now moving south and east. wet weather right now south and east -- as we go throughout the rest of the overnight hours.

overall though, clear skies prevail as we get into monday. over the next 12 hours, a leftover shower. overnight clearing dropping down to 62 in the suburbs and 69 in philadelphia for the overnight low. so monday a big air mass change on the way with high pressure situated to our left. the winds around that high are clock wise. we tap into that wind which lowers the humidity with the temperature coming in at 84 degrees. tuesday a ridge of high pressure right on top of us. it might be a cool start early tuesday morning with overnight lows in the upper 50s, lower 60s. by the afternoon, we'll max out at 82 degrees. it's a beautiful day at that. here's the big story. this tells the story for you. dew point numbers last week were in the upper 60s, lower 70s. tomorrow dew points in the lower 50s spike up to 64 degrees as we get into thursday.

really monday, tuesday, and wednesday no complaints across the delaware and lehigh valleys. the change comes thursday and beyond. here's your seven day forecast. monday, lower humidity. a nice day. high temperature in at 84. sunny and pleasant on tuesday. 82 degrees. warming up quickly on wednesday but the humidity stays in check. high temperature in at 87. humidity starts to increase by thursday with a high temperature of 89 degrees. on friday it's getting hot and turning more humid. high temperature of 92. on saturday, it's humid with a thunderstorm possible and at 92 degrees. as we get into sunday, mostly sunny and hot and by then, we've got a high of 91 degrees. much needed relief and a nice break i think we all deserve that's coming our way tomorrow morning. the humidity lowers throughout the day tomorrow. so it may not be so bad in the morning. sarah: okay. all right.

walter: flyers legends took to the ice today at the flyer skate zone in atlantic city part of the fantasy camp. the camp wraps up tomorrow with a championship game. sarah: all right. jeff is here now with sports. jeff: the eagles have been looking at linebackers especially considering joe walker. they get one tonight. their defensive makeover continues tonight. they have agreed to terms with veteran free agent linebacker stephen tulloch. it's a one-year deal worth $3 million. tulloch has played 10 years in the nfl for detroit and tennessee.
