shoulder is the rear apartment where the two-year-old boy was found unresponsive on saturday night. at a hitoday his mother's boyfrd was charged with killing the child by beating him to death. the door at the back of the home in the 5900 block of mansion boulevard leads to the apartment where the little boy was beaten on saturday night. it was just before 11:30 when his mother called 911. >> my boyfriend is trying to get him to wake up. >> can you see if his chest is rising and falling. can you feel if he's breathing. >> he is moving his chest. >> reporter: paramedics transported the child to cooper university hospital where he was pronounced dead about a half hour later. joe holly liver in the house house -- lives in the house right next door. >> it's sad. it was sad. you hear -- it's not -- don't catch me by surprise. you hear it now every day. it's always some tragedy going on, so should not be but it happens. >> reporter: at a the child's mother's boyfriend

24-year-old zachary tricoche was charged with first degree murder in connection with the fatal beating. the boy who was killed does have siblings. it's unclear who was home at the time he was beaten or if the other kids were also subjected to abuse. holly said he never saw any children at that apartment. >> no, uh-uh. >> reporter: never? >> never, no. >> reporter: but you saw the boyfriend. >> in the morning, yeah, about 6 o'clock in the morning, 7 o'clock -- no, about -- it's about 6 o'clock i see him get on a cab and he leave. >> reporter: there was a delay in releasing information about this murder because authorities needed to track down the child's biological father and notify him of the boy's death. zachary tricoche will be in -- is locked up tonight in a camden county jail and he will be arraigned in camden tomorrow afternoon. live in pennsauken, new jersey, i'm sarah bloomquist channel6 "action news. monica. >> thank you, sarah. a man was killed in a nasty crash here along the

blue route in delaware county. it happened about 9 o'clock near cardinal o'hara drive in springfield. police say a 41-year-old man from havertown died at the scene. no word of any other injuries or just how the crash happened. a young woman is speaking out about a terrifying sexual assault she says her attacker was her uber driver. now, both philadelphia police and uber are investigating. "action news" reporter bob brooks live at police headquarters for us with her story tonight. bob. >> reporter: monica, good evening. this young woman says she had to fight in order to make it out of this uber ride alive and as a result, she says she's never taking uber or riding alone again. she doesn't want her identity shown. what's happened is extremely painful. she says she is speaking today with the hope that no one will fall victim like her during a ride thousands of people take every day. >> he looked at me like i was not a human being. >> reporter: a student at drexel says she was sexually

assaulted by an uber driver. >> ever since i just i'm terrified of strangers. anyone who even looks like him. >> reporter: she says it was after 2:00 a.m. july 16th. she and a friend were ending a night out on the art museum steps overlooking the city. then they called an uber to head home. a young man was sharing their ride and was sitting in the back seat. her friend was dropped off first in university city. her victim's apartment was just four blocks away on chestnut but for some reason, the driver took the man in the back seat home first. >> he said he made a wrong turn and it just made more sense to drop off the other kid. >> reporter: on their way back to chestnut, she says he started touching her. >> i remember just being pressed up against the corner of the car and just saying please stop, please stop, please stop. >> reporter: it was right here on market street that they came to a red light and luckily our victim was able to unlock her door, throw her self right onto market street and scream for help. >> luckily there was someone

on the corner who came and helped me. >> reporter: it took a few days for the shock to wear off but she finally told her parents. they filed a report. uber says he's been terminated. >> i'm never going to ride an uber again at all. >> reporter: okay, back out live here uber says they are cooperating fully with the investigation with the philadelphia police. but at this point no charges have been broader against the driver. for now reporting live at police headquarters, bob brooks, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, bob. jerry sandusky was back in court today for the second day of his three day appeals hearing. the former penn state assistant football coach wants his child molestation conviction overturned because he says his original lawyer did not adequately represent him. today his lawyers focused on conflicting statements from man who says an assistant coach saw him being sexually abused by sandusky in a penn state shower. so-called victim number two settled abuse claims with penn state but did not testify

against sandusky at trial. sandusky testified during the first day of this hearing and strongly denied his guilt. sandusky is currently serving a 30 to 60 year sentence. philadelphia district attorney seth williams has responded to an fbi investigation into his financial dealings. williams sent a letter to supporters saying in part "one of my requirements as an elected official is to fully disclose all gifts and or in kind services i receive even those from my closest friends and family quote i take full responsibility on failing to disclose what was required. we've taken the proper steps to make sure it doesn't happen again and will be fully compliant moving forward. williams received $160,000 in gifts that he failed to report until recently. some of those gifts he belatedly reported include a $2,700 couch free vacations to the florida keys punta qana and tile lands and a new roof worth tens of thousands of dollars. police are calling the murder of a plan in north

philadelphia an execution. 25-year-old leonard boyar the third was shot to death saturday night. boyar was found lying on the sidewalk in the 600 block of north 12th street. investigators have not been able to figure out why he was targeted. >> just parked his vehicle, was walking towards his mother's house and two unidentified males walked up on him and executed him shooting him several times. >> police say boyar is a recent college graduate and has a young daughter. philadelphia police are looking for the robber who held up wawa employees at gunpoint overnight. it happened in the 1600 block of harbison avenue in the wissinoming section of philadelphia. detectives say a man entered the store shortly after midnight demanding cash. employees handed him money and then he ran off with it. delaware state police wander your help finding this man, 58-year-old robert evans who is accused of robbing three businesses. according to police, evans broke in through the front

door of the businesses late last month, stole money from inside, then ran. evans faces more than a dozen counts. anyone with information is asked to call delaware state police. >> ♪ new at 6:00 tonight larger protected beaches. that is the end result of dredging that beachgoers typically see but "action news" had the chance to get on board a dredge ship off the coast of long beach island see how the entire process works. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic with that story tonight. >> reporter: welcome aboard the dredge ship liberty island floating 3 miles off the coast of barnegat light and long beach island one of three vessels currently working on the massive $138 million project build berms and dunes on lbi. part of the overall plan to protect the entire jersey coast from hurricane and storm damage. >> it sounds easy we're going to pump standee sands onto the beach. there's a lot that goes behind, a lot of engineering, last seen science goes behind it. >> reporter: working with the u.s. army corps of engineers crews with the great egg dredge and dock company

work around the clock. they drop 30-inch suction pipes that scrawl through the oaks floor. that's called a borrow site. >> lower some drag arms literally sucks up the sand with water stores in it a hopper and then thanks ports it back to the pump. >> bring it into a location where we hook up to a buoy and the sand is pump you had oat through pipeline to the beach. >> reporter: small army of bulldozers and other heavy equipment move the sand around. the idea to extend the beach by several hundred feet and build a down here 22 feet high. >> started with about 8 million cubic yards of sand and then some of the storm damage we had through the winter we're going to go back and fix more areas and pull it out to 11 million cubic yards of sand. >> reporter: we've had full beach access all summer. it's just this last week that they've made some changes. >> are you willing to deal with it. >> i am. >> we'll have a great beach and feel more protectd. it beach replenishment project

school. there were special guests on land to welcome the students backism this morning officers from the 22nd district and members of the community high-fived students as they arrived back to mastery charter school's frederick douglas elementary in north philadelphia. the summer is over the school year under way. >> today is my first day. >> i'm proud of her. she going to the fifth grade. this should be a good year for her. >> reporter: over at the middle school students celebrated start of the year but quickly got down to work. sure, it's sad to see summer go but there's just something special about the promise of a new term. >> i am always excited about the first day of school it is a fresh start for our students. it's an exciting opportunity for them to kind of live up to their potential for the school year but also facing forward to the future thinking about who they are now, who they will be. >> reporter: talking to the eighth graders they expect to see a heavier workload as they prepare for the last year before high school. >> it's a lot more things to do like study, tests, quizzes.

>> my goal for this year is basically just to get good grades. >> reporter: today students are getting their schedules finding out who their teachers are. they're ready to dive right in. >> we do a lot of learning but at the same time we having fun. >> reporter: welcome back, kids. in north philadelphia, katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> a momentous day for the youngest students in the parkside section of philadelphia. the global leadership academy charter school welcomed its kindergartners this morning. proud parents helped their little ones get situated in the new environment. for many this was a bittersweet day. >> first day. beautiful. my daughter got to smile and enjoy her first day of kindergarten. >> it's very emotional for me. i'm just happy and excited for the new experience she's about to come through. >> very nice. students in grades one through eight got a jump start on the new school year last week. 33 started classes at global leadership academy wednesday.

the suburbs where temperatures will be dropping down into the low 50, philadelphia 62, 5 degrees below normal, cape may 65, trenton 57. this will be the coolest night in philadelphia since june 18th and tomorrow, you like at a, you will like tomorrow. we have another beautiful day, high pressure right over us, not quite as breezy as today. at 8 o'clock 67, by 11 o'clock, 75. temperatures in the low 80's by the afternoon and then by 8 o'clock, dropping down to 77. it's a beautiful evening. philadelphia 81. allentown 76. trenton 78. cape may 80. wilmington currently 81 degrees with the winds out of the northwest and the dewpoints really tell the story. when you have dewpoints below 60 degrees, it's a very dry comfortable air mass. we have dewpoints in the low 50's in much of our viewing area so that's part of the reason why it feels so good so crisp and satellite6 along with action radar showing nothing more than a few fair

weather cumulus high pressure that's building in from the ohio valley will be sitting right over us tomorrow so that means temperatures again slightly below normal. normal high is 85. 82 degrees tomorrow. and with that high pressure right over us, you get that sinking air so the winds will be very calm tomorrow with loads of sunshine. on wednesday, this high pressure slides to the east so we get the winds beginning to turn out of the south what's known as a return flow so that is a little bit warmer. still humidity in check, 87 degrees and ahead of that cold front on friday, temperatures will be up into the low 90's and it will get noticeably more humid. if you are down the shore tomorrow, though, it's going to be gorgeous. mostly sunny, very pleasant, low risk of rip currents with those winds out of the north. jersey beaches 79 degrees. just a weak sea breeze and the delaware beaches a little bit warmer with a high of 80 degrees. enjoy it and put a lot of sunscreen on tomorrow. you will need it. taking a look at the tropics really beginning to get more active. tropical depression fiona

falling apart. we've got the next system likely to become gaston. then there's a tropical wave. this is something i'll be watching. computer models a little bit uncertain exactly where it will be heading but some of them do take it towards florida by the end of the weekend so people in florida certainly people in the bahamas will be watching this system. it has about a 50 percent chance of becoming a tropical storm in the next five days. so, back at home, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, gorgeous tomorrow, 82 degrees, low humidity. wednesday it gets warmer but humidity still pretty nice, 87 degrees. on thursday, it gets more muggy, 89 degrees. friday hazy, hot and humid, 93 a heads of that cold front. that cold front could touch off a few scattered showers and thunderstorms friday night and behind it for the weekend it's still going to be on the hot side on saturday with a high of 90 and then sunday temperatures trend down a little bit, 89 degrees, mostly sunny. it gets more muggy on monday with a high of 89 degrees. though we have this cool comfortable air mass really
