police say a 21-year-old montgomery county man was driving drunk when he struck and injured a police officer in manayunk last night. 55-year-old sergeant joseph cain was conducting a traffic stop when colin murphy allegedly drove into him send a sending him flying 15 feet down the road. investigators say then murphy took off. cain suffered a broken collarbone, broken ribs and internal bruising. police tracked down murphy after a good samaritan spotted his car about a mile away. police have identified the woman who fell to her death at lums pond state park in delaware yesterday. she is tina werner of felton shown here with her daughter. investigators say she was on a platform waiting to descend on a zip line at the go ape area rope adventure course when she fell. the company says a witness reported werner disconnected herself from the safety system just before that fall. a horrifying experience for a 75-year-old man and his

daughter. he was tied up. his daughter was viciously beaten in their own home. and tonight, the couple police say did it is behind bars on a million dollars bond. "action news" reporter christie ileto live in chester now with details. christie? >> reporter: monica, it's likely there could be more people involved in this according to court documents. this wasn't random. they weren't leaving empty handed. >> cop cars came from 24th street to here, 25th street. they had bright lights -- flashlights going checking the suspect here over in the alley. >> reporter: the sudden flur eve activity she spotted was the police looking for richard johnson and erinn howarth, possibly the housekeeper of fleming's neighbor dennis mccarthy. the pair were allegedly after the 75-year-old's safe that housed cash and jewelry. court documents reveal they held mccarthy up at gunpoint demanding the combination to the safe. when he told them that he didn't know it, they tied his hands and

feet with cords and ransacked the bedroom trying to beat open the safe. mccarthy's 49-year-old daughter who came home during the invasion was severely beaten and bleeding badly. >> no one heard something. if they did, someone would have said something. police officers live in this neighborhood. >> reporter: you were in your living room and never heard a thing. >> not until i heard the cop car come with the lights and the sirens. >> reporter: mccarthy managed to untie himself once the suspects made off with the safe and police found him sitting outside something for a -- asking for an ambulance for his daughter. >> i was highly shocked and surprised. things like that typically don't happen in this neighborhood. >> reporter: it's unclear how the suspects entered the home, but hours before the invasion, howarth and johnson reportedly stopped by the mccarthy home to pick up a bikini the 25-year-old had left there. according to court documents, it's that bikini that was discovered in a backpack in one of the bedrooms after the home invasion that led police to howarth and johnson. now, police were able to recover

that safe unopened and that 49-year-old woman remains in critical but stable condition. reporting live here in chester, christie ileto for "channel 6 action news." monica? >> thank you, christie. a former septa worker is accused of stealing more than a half million dollars worth of equipment from septa. 28-year-old kyle allen allegedly took catalytic converters, batteries, wires and other parts and sold them for scrap. investigators sayi allen hit six different septa facilities. he is behind bars tonight. this man, 18-year-old eric word, facing a host of charges after police say they found videos on his phone showing him having sex with a 14-year-old girl. word is a bensalem high school senior. police say he borrowed another teenager's phone and downloaded private images of her. when officers investigated those allegations, they then discovered photos and videos of him allegedly having sex with two females, one of whom was 14. a new jersey community is

demanding to know why the water from their tap is turning brown. they showed up at a township meeting tonight with samples in hand to confront officials and get answers. "action news" reporter dann cuellar was there. >> reporter: more than 100 people packed a maple shade council meeting, a number of them bringing containiers of filthy colored water they say have been coming out of their faucets. >> we drink this water. it's a problem. >> there needs to be totally investigated and taken care of. take care of the water system. >> reporter: officials were blaming the problem on an aging water pipe system, a problem they say is common with many other municipalities across the country. they assured residents the water was not harmful and it was being caused by iron that becomes dislodged from the cast iron pipes. >> iron is not considered something that would potentially cause cancer or other significant health concerns. >> reporter: one resident says it appears the problem has also been seen in other parts of

residents in indiana are starting to pick up the pieces from seven tornadoes that swept through the central and northern parts of that state yesterday. in kokomo, an ef-3 twister with winds of 152 miles an hour flattened this starbucks. one of the 20 people who managed to walk out alive said a barista who herded everyone into the bathroom was a hero. >> it had been ten minutes longer that he had waited to get us in there, we would have just blown away. i mean, we would not be here. >> several tornadoes struck in the ft. wayne area but in all there were no serious injuries. turning to our weather now, another stretch of oppressive temperatures is headed our way. meteorologist cecily tynan joins us now with our first check of that accuweather forecast, a steamy one, cecily. >> that's right, monica. we had a nice break from the heat and humidity earlier this week, but temperatures have been on it's ride monday and tuesday, the high, 83 with that low humidity. yesterday, 86. today just a little bit higher,

aftershocks rattled the already shocked town in italy searching for survivors. the death toll is now 250 with

hundreds hospitalized. still not clear how many people are missing, this area was packed with people on summer vacation and the window for finding people alive in the rub is now closing. experts say the first 48 hours after a quake are critical. still, more than 200 people have been rescued since that quake struck. police in brazil have now charged olympic swimmer ryan lochte with filing a false robbery report, and that charge carries a maximum penalty of 18 months in prison. lochte must now decide whether to defend himself in brazil or he could be tried in absentia. he said that he and three other swimmers were pulled over in their taxi and robbed on their way back to the olympic village. the video evidence shows the swimmers were actually approached by security guards and they accused them of vandalizing a bathroom. lochte later apologized saying he exaggerated parts of the story. two catholic nuns who helped

the poor in rural mississippi were killed in their home, and officials say it appears it happened during a break-in. the nuns were both nurse practitioners. their bodies were found this monk when they did not report to work at a nearby clinic. police say their car's missing. it was likely stole. the nuns were identified as sister margaret held and sister paula mural who was 68. investigators are now scouring surveillance video in that town to try to spot anything unusual. "healthcheck" tonight, the maker of epipen is now offering patients more help in paying for the life-saving allergy injector but they're not lowering the price. the company is tripling the amount on its copay discount cards to $300. and it's expanding eligibility for its patient assistance program. critics say insurers, employers, and taxpayers will still foot most of the cost. meantime, at least two other companies are trying to get the okay for generic versions.
