exceed 100 degrees. no one was injured. no evacuations were needed. officials say crews will be on this scene for several hours cleaning up that spill. police say a 21-year-old montgomery county man was driving drunk when he struck and injured a police officer in manayunk last night. 55-year-old sergeant joseph cain was conducting a traffic stop when colin murphy allegedly drove into him send a sending him flying 15 feet down the road. investigators say then murphy took off. cain suffered a broken collarbone, broken ribs and internal bruising. police tracked down murphy after a good samaritan spotted his car about a mile away. police have identified the woman who fell to her death at lums pond state park in delaware yesterday. she is tina werner of felton shown here with her daughter. investigators say she was on a platform waiting to descend on a zip line at the go ape area rope adventure course when she fell. the company says a witness reported werner disconnected herself from the safety system

just before that fall. a horrifying experience for a 75-year-old man and his daughter. he was tied up. his daughter was viciously beaten in their own home. and tonight, the couple police say did it is behind bars on a million dollars bond. "action news" reporterhristie ileto lin ester nowith details. christie? >> reporter: monica, it's likely there cod beore people involved in this according to court documents. this wasn' random. they weren't leaving empty handed. >> cop cars came from 24th street to here, 25th street. they had bright lights -- flashlights going checking the suspect here over in the alley. >> reporter: the sudden flur eve activity she spotted was the police looking for richard johnson and erinn howarth, possibly the housekeeper of fleming's neighbor dennis mccarthy. the pair were allegedly after the 75-year-old's safe that

housed cash and jewelry. court documents reveal they he mccarthy up at gunpoint demanding the combination to the safe. when he told them that he didn't know it, they tied his handsnd feet with cords and ransacked the bedroom trying to beat open the safe. mccarthy's 49-year-old daughter who came home during the invasion was severely beaten and bleeding badly. >> no one heard something. if they did, someone would have said something. police officers live in this neighborhood. >> reporter: you were in your living room and never heard a thing. >> not until i heard the cop car come with the lights and the sirens. >> reporter: mccarthy managed to untie himself once the suspects made off with the safe and police found him sitting outside something for a -- asking for an ambulance for his daughter. >> i was highly shocked and surprised. things like that typically don't happen in this neighborhood. >> reporter: it's unclear how the suspects entered the home, but hours before the invasion, howarth and johnson reportedly stopped by the mccarthy home to pick a bikini the 25-year-old had left there. according to court documents, it's that bikini that was discovered in a backpack in one of the bedrooms after the home

invasion that led police to howarth and johnson. now, police were able to recover that safe unopened and that 49-year-old woman remains in critical but stable condition. reporting live here in chester, christie ileto for "channel 6 action news." monica? >> thank you, christie. a former septa worker is accused of stealing more than a half million dollars worth of equipment from septa. 28-year-old kyle allen allegedly took catalytic converters, batteries, wires and other parts and sold them for scrap. investigators say allen hit six different septa facilities. he is behind bars tonight. this man, 18-year-old eric word, facing a host of charges after police say they found videos on his phone showing him having sex with a 14-year-old girl. word is a bensalem high school senior. police say he borrowed another teenager's phone and downloaded private images of her. when officers investigated those

allegations, they then discovered photos and videos of him allegedly having sex with two females, one of whom was 14. a new jersey community is demanding to know why the water from their tap is turning brown. they showed up at a township meeting tonight with samples in hand to confront officials and get answers. "action news" reporter dann cuellar was ere. >> reporter: more than 100 people packed a maple shade council meeting, a number of them bringing containiers of filthy colored water they say have been coming out of their faucets. >> we drink this water. it's a problem. >> there needs to be totally investigated and taken care of. take care of the water system. >> reporter: officials were blaming the problem on an agg water pipe system, a problem they say is common with many other municipalities across the country. they assured residents the water was not harmful and it was being caused by iron that becomes dislodged from the cast iron pipes. >> iron is not considered

week, but temperatures have been on it's ride monday and tuesday, the high, 83 with that low humidity. yesterday, 86. today just a little bit higher, 87 degrees. that's three degrees above normal. but the humidity levels are higher. in the airass that you canence feel. if you look at the high temperatures across the eastern half of the united states, there are a lot of 90s, really encroaching on us, and that weather will be moving in tomorrow. in addition to that, the dew points, how it feels right now, in the 70s. so that's processive. that tropical air mass and that will brie with us tomorrow. so here we go again. talking about the heat index, that the heat of the day andsh -- in the afternoon, the i-95 corridor, philadelphia, trenton, wilmington, into the interior south jersey and delaware around 100 degrees. and the outlying areas, not much better. but i am tracking a little bit of relief over the weekend for one of the days. i'll talk about that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. monica? >> thank you, cecily. pennsylvania state sen

sitcoming back to harrisburg before labor day. senators return next tuesday to confirm a new attorney general. last week, governor tom wolf nominated bruce bea beamer, the current state inspectors general to replace bruce castor. he took over after kathleen kane's conviction on perjury. he was at one time kane's top aid. it has been a contentious day on the campaign trail. the candidates traded barbs in some of the strongest language we have heard yet. and it was this comment late last night that touched it off. >> hillary clinton is a bigot! [ cheers and applause ] who sees people of color only as votes, not as human beings, worthy of a better future. >> that was part of donald trump's latest appeal to african-american voters, but clinton fired back saying trump has been running a racist campaign.

aftershocks rattled the already shocked town in italy searching for survivors. the death toll is now 250 with hundreds hospitalized. still not clear how many people are missing, this area was packed with people on summer vacation and the window for finding people alive in the rub is now closing. experts say the first 48 hours after a quake are critical. still, more than 200 people have been rescued since that quake struck. police in brazil have now charged olympic swimmer ryan lochte with filing a false robbery report, and that charge carries a maximum penalty of 18 months in prison. lochte must now decide whether to defend himself in brazil or he could be tried in absentia.

he said that he and three other swimmers were pulled over in their taxi and robbed on their way back to the olympic village. the video evidence shows the swimmers were actually approached by security guards and they accused them of vandalizing a bathroom. lochte later apologized saying he exaggerated parts of the story. two catholic nuns who helped the poor in rural mississippi were killed in their home, and officials say it appears it happened during a break-in. the nuns were both nurse practitioners. their bodies were found this monk when they did not report to work at a nearby clinic. police say their car's missing. it was likely stole. the nuns were identified as sister margaret held and sister paula mural who was 68. investigators are now scouring surveillance video in that town to try to spot anything unusual. "healthcheck" tonight, the maker of epipen is now offering patients more help in paying for the life-saving allergy injector but they're not lowering the

saturday, but overall, the pattern is just going to be hot with this high pressure, upper-level ridge over us. temperatures 90 degrees throug next week with winds out of the southwest. and south of this, you can see the winds are westerly. so what this will do is steer a tropical disturbance across the keys of florida and likely into the gulf of mexico tomorrow and the national hurricane center is giving that a 60% chance of becoming tropical storm hermine over the next five days. could bebry a lot of rain over smarts of florida and it could strengthen once it gets in the gulf. if you're heading to the beach tomorrow, 76 degrees. may want to get na inn that water because the air temperature with no sea breeze up to 90. but saturday and sunday should be nice beach weather. temperatures in the low 80s with lots of sunshine. and the mountains, humid tomorrow and warm, 83 degrees. a spotty thunderstorm. but saturday and sunday, just gorgeous in the poconos with highs in the low 80s. so the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, 93 degrees, feeling closer to 100.
