her inappropriately as she was walking home from work. four other cases not far away remain unsolved. >> someone shot a man on a motorcycle in the head. police say the shooting followed an argument at 2:30 a.m. next to the cheese steak shop on comly street. the 32-year-old victim's motorcycle crashed in the planned parenthood parking lot next to the steak shop. he is in critical condition in torresdale hospital. the search continues for the shooter. bears and cards and candle sit outside the home of an 8-year-old girl killed in camden. this morning her mother and the community are pleading for the shooter to surrender. jeff chirico was there.

>> reporter: you could feel ma marissa carter's anguish as hundreds gathered to mourn her 8-year-old daughter. >> she is not coming back. she was fun, loving and outgoing. >> reporter: family friends and neighbors lit candles and hugged in front of the home from where gabby lived shot in the head, an innocent victim of gun battle. >> i just got to say, it could be me next. >> reporter: the vigil was for a rally of justice. >> you're too friendly with him, it's your sons and daughters. >> reporter: dispite handing out flyers and growing reward police officials say the community has remained largely tight lipped.

67:12, 70 degrees, sky6 live hd giving you a glimpse of the philadelphia international airport. sorry to tell you, but meteorologist chris sowers says today is day 38 that will be 90 or higher. what is going on? >> a scorcher this whole summer. >> reporter: a lot of times what happens in a pattern like like , a hot summer and you get whacked in the winter. >> if we hit 90 today, this is heat wave 698. >> reporter: [laughter]. let's get you outside and show you the view in atlantic city, it's nice and quiet out there this morning, clear as a bell, hardly a cloud in the sky. in the afternoon we'll get clouds building, nothing threatening. we don't have any moisture out there, so the skies will remain

clear over the next several days. there we go, we'll flip it over to the current where we see a temperature of 70 degrees and dewpoint of 68. pressure 30.23 inches holding steady. winds out of the northeast at 3 miles per hour. ocean temperature is 74. presently across the region you can see most locations are in the 60s and 70s. so it's not too terribly bad. dewpoints have come up a little bit, but that's to be expected this time of day where we see higher moisture levels. as the day progresses like yesterday we'll see the dewpoints drop off. that's when it will feel better. 65 is considered humid, 70 is oppressive. slightly humid across the lehigh valley, stickier, south and east, a lot of these numbers as shown on future tracker will drop down during the day, just like yesterday. it will be hot, but feel comfortable out there.

satellite and radar showing showers and thunderstorms off to the west, they will stay out there today. we have high pressure in control. it's a heat pump high sitting right there. as long as the high pressure sits over top of the mid atlantic. it forces the activity to go up and around. it's a protective bubble. that will stay in place over the next several days. we'll keep the forecast dry through wednesday. there's an isolated chance of a thunderstorm monday, 15% chance. other than that the next shot is wednesday afternoon. poconos, sun and clouds, warm, 81 degrees, a little more humid from what you saw yesterday, but still not that bad. jersey shore, delightful down there, combination of sun and clouds, we'll go mostly sunny, 82 degrees, you'll have a nice sea breeze kicking in today. 674 degrees is the ocean water temperature. we have moderate risk for rip currents, because of gallons ton spinning its wheels in the mid

6:19, chicago police have questioned two people, but so far they have knot charge anyone in the shooting death of dwyane wade. friday ciekea add drij -- aldridge was shot in the head. dwyane wade recently signed a contract with his hometown chicago bulls. nfl quarterback is not standing during the national anthem. he said he will not show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. he is biracial and adopted by

[laughter]. i mean what a summer this has turned into. this is the 38th time this year hitting 90 degrees or higher. the 6th heat wave of the year. as we look into the extended forecast. we see a cool down we see another heat wave arriving next week. not this week, the following week. it seems to never end here.

fall is less than a month away, there's good news there. temperatures wise starting out in the 60s and 70s. 62 in allentown. philadelphia bottoming out around 70 degrees, look at the poconos, 56, boy that feels good. trenton, 64. millville, 64. lancaster, 67. and wilmington 69 degrees, some areas are seeing a little bit of patchy fog, but it's isolated, fog showing up in northern camden county, as well as southwestern burlington county. trenton down to 3 miles, lancaster, 9 miles, everybody else is doing okay in the visibility department. satellite and radar, high pressure sitting right there. storm systems were going up and around, that means we stay high and dry. combination of sun and clouds, it's hot, more humid, but not terribly so. 90 degrees is the forecasted high. a lot of sunshine to start, 1:00 p.m. temperature, 88. 3:00 p.m., temperature, 90. 5:00 p.m., 90. there's the possibility we get a degree or so warmer than this

90 degrees, again with the humidity only being slightly humid it's not too terribly a bad. when i come back we'll focus on the fall-like cool down in the forecast for a change. >> thank you so much. 6:00 -- 6:32 a.m., a gunman shot at a car in north philadelphia hitting the victim once in the head. the driver is in critical, but stable condition at temple university hospital. the action cam was at the scene when the bullet riddled audi came to a stop. the victim was able to drive that far after being shot along the 1300 block of erie. police are looking for the system and motive. one man is dead after a double shooting in north philadelphia. the action cam was at the 1700 block of north newkirk street.

someone opened fire last night. a 25-year-old man was shot in the chest and died. we learned a 45-year-old man was shot in the chest. else in critical condition at hahnemann hospital. so far there have been no arrests. also new to tell you about this morning, a crash in winslow township, new jersey, the action cam was at choose landings road and sicklierville road in camden county. the car went out of control and slammed into a utility pole. we know the driver died at the scene. police are trying to determine what caused the accident. >> well, this morning a reward is growing for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murder of a little girl. this is as her family rights come to grimes with her senseless death. 8-year-old gabriel carter's mother did not hold back her

harold was embraced outside his burned home in salem. his mother died in the blaze that started early saturday morning. rahmir said he was staying with a family member when the fire started. he remembers his mom as an independent woman who taught him and his brother to work hard. his older brother is a 30 year firefighter with the city of wilmington and came to the scene when he heard the news. >> you see this as a firefighter, but to have a family member -- i know what the fire will do. investigators spent hours going through the home looking for a cause. meanwhile, relatives gathered to comfort one another remembering another woman who put her two sons first. >> whatever it takes to get the job done for family, she was always there.

>> rahmir will be staying with family members, her younger son is 18 and just started his freshman year in north carolina last weekend. he is back in town to mourn with family. trish hartman channel 6 "action news." >> we have pictures of southwest airline passengers putting on their oxygen masks preparing for their flight to make an emergency landing. one engine fell a part 31,000 feet up over the gulf of mexico. a metal object pierced the fuselage. 99 passengers were on board, crying, praying for a safe landing. the flight landed safely in pensacola. search okay, some are calling the southwest airline crew a group of heros. ntsb is investigating that scare in the sky. and this morning, efforts are underway to repair a

the dewpoints jump up wednesday and thursday, there's the cold front thursday morning we get into the nice refreshing air mass similar to what we saw this past monday and tuesday, nice comfortable breeze, lots of sunshine, temperatures barely reaching 80. that's the end of the seven-day forecast. hang in there, we have cooler changes on the way. satellite and radar, not tracking anything, just combination of sun and clouds, showing temperatures, the modeling has us at 88 degrees this afternoon, accuweather will pump us up to 90. you get the idea, a lot of surrounding suburbs will be in the 80s. it's technically a heat wave, but only for philadelphia. same thing with the surrounding suburbs, everybody is in the 80s. monday, 91, tuesday, everybody is dropping into the 80s, the heat wave is for the city, everybody else will reach the upper 80s, it will be close, but

larger protected beaches after a drenching projects, "action news" had a chance to get on board a drench ship off the coast of long beach island to see how the process works. nora muchanic has the story. >> reporter: welcome a board liberty island floating off barnegot light and long beach island. it's one of three vessels working on the $138 million project to build dunes on lbi to protect the coast from hurricane and storm damage. >> there's a lot that goes behind it a lot of engineering and science goes behind it. >> reporter: working with the army corps of engineers, crews work around the clock, they drop 30-inch suction pipes through either side of the ship that take it from the ocean familiar at what's call a borrow site. >> it as you cans -- sucks up
