news, a four-alarm fire at a historic church is under control in west philadelphia, but the damage is done. those flames tore through good shepherd presbyterian at 9:00 a.m. this morning and they kept on burning. crews only got the upper hand in the past hour. chopper 6 hd is live over what is left of this buildings which is more than 100 years old. many people will be feeling the loss, because this church served five different congregations. jennifer joyce is live on the -- jeanette reyes is live on landsdown avenue. it's burning into the afternoon. >> reporter: that's right, firefighters had a tough job ahead of them, but they did a good job, despite doing a good job early this morning, smoke is billowing out of the church.

take a look behind me, you can see, it was pitch black coming out of the church. this is good shepherd presbyterian church. crews are still working to put out the hot spots. we talked to officials and here's what we know so far. two people were inside when the fire first started, one on the second floor, another on the on the third, no injuries were reported they were evacuated safely. there's an on going investigation into how exactly this fire started. i can tell you that the officials are saying it originated in the basement and very, very quickly moved from there. because firefighters had no choice to move from the offensive to the defensive, the main goal to contain it to one building. take a look at what parishners had to say. >> i was you must on the third floor in the shower, i came out, there was a lot of smoke, i

this evening, here and there. i want to show that to you just in case you're among the small, small minority if you see something like that. up in the lehigh valley, sun and clouds, warm and humid high of 89 today. down the shore, 84 is the high, partly sunny skies, but here's the issue, despite the fact that the temperatures and the ocean is great. we have a moderate risk of rip currents up and down the jersey and delaware shores today because of the hurricane that is out to sea. if you get caught in a rip current it's going to sweep you straight away out to sea, if you try to swim against it, that's where you get in trouble. you swim parallel to the beach that will get you out of the current and you can come back to shore. 92, sun and clouds, hot and humid, wind out of the northwest fairly light. overnight tonight mainly clear, the humidity dropping off a bit. it will be warm with a low of 71. out to the tropics there's

hurricane gaston it was a 3 now it's down to a 2. tropical depression 8 formed over the weekend. tropical depression number 8 popped up off the coast of north carolina maybe a couple of hundred miles away. it will make a run at the carolina coast and get steered by a cold front up the coast. most of the computer models as you can see is suggesting that very thing hams. it could give us -- happens, it could give us rip currents and passes by wednesday into thursday night. the next storm will cut off to the northeast, it will cross the florida pan panhandle. if you have travel plans from orlando to tampa and atlanta, georgia you want to keep your eye on that. most of the models have it going that way.

a couple of it have it going in different directions. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, 92, 89 tomorrow. we get a break in humidity and hot and humid on wednesday, high of 91. a frontal boundary is liable to trigger a pop-up shower or thunderstorm late in the day and in the evening. and then there could be a lingering shower on thursday, after that the humidity drops, temperatures go down, thursday afternoon on through the weekend all look great. by the way those tropical depressions have a chance of becoming a named storm later today or tonight. >> david, thank you. we'll be right back.
