"action news" reporter jeanette reyes is live at the scene on what's been a heartbreaking day for a number of people there. jeanette. >> reporter: it really has been an emotional day sharrie for a lot of parishioners. more than six hours after this fire broke out you can still see smoke. take a live look behind me.

coming out from that which urge that steeple a charred frame left over and now hundreds of parishioners are without a church. reverend pamela k. williams says her morning started with a rush of frantic calls. >> my phone just started blowing up saying pastor pam your church is on fire, your church is on fire and i'm like what do you mean your church is on fire. >> reporter: dark smoke from the massive blaze at the historic good shepherd presbyterian church in overbrook could be seen from over a mile away. an "action news" viewer recorded this cell phone video just as dozens of firefighters arrived scene. >> only took a couple minutes for the whole church to go up. >> reporter: the four alarm fire broke out about 9 o'clock this morning while church member richard clem was in the shower the he barely escaped. >> i was upstairs on the third floor in the shower and i came out and there was a lot of smoke. i just crawled down the hallway and came out the window and they took me down the third floor. >> reporter: clem was one of two people inside. the others self evacuate.

neither was injured. deputy commissioner robert corrigan says this blaze was one of the tougher ones to beach over 120 personnel were needed. >> church fires are notoriously to fight. they have a lot of void spaces and fire can travel. >> reporter: the fire traveled so fast it consumed the entire church leaving a charred frame behind. the image was too much to bear for williams pastor of one of the five congregations rendering the space. >> i am totally devastated and heartbroken that we have lost everything. >> reporter: lead pastor jb adams says building or no building, there will be a church service come sunday. >> we have five churches worshiping in our building. and so i'm telling them all that we have to worship on sunday. >> reporter: and coming back out live to us you can see the door there. some of the firefighters left over putting out some hot spots. the fire was officially put out just past 11 o'clock this morning.

>> let's go over to meteorologist adam joseph. >> heat wave number six is rolling on. friday 93, saturday 93, yesterday 90. today so far 93 degrees. well above that normal of 84 and we have that extreme humidity also kind of tapping in with these very hot temperatures so a very uncomfortable day. feels like 94 in philadelphia right now, 95 in wilmington, 97 in millville and really not much in the way of a break even along the shore. 90 in cape may. 90 in beach haven with it as hot as it is even on the sand makes you want to jump into that water to cool off but we are tracking kind of a trio here, tropical trio of trouble. number one, hurricane gaston which is well east of bermuda, this is about 1200 miles away from our coastline. we also have tropical depression number eight that is just off of the carolina coast and tropical depression number nine which is heading into the gulf of mexico. so, as we track not only gaston which wave heights

underneath gaston are 27 feet they do wane quite a bit as they push to the west but we're still seeing increased wave heights philadelphia down to the eastern seaboard and also this is expected to become a tropical storm just off of the carolinas and that will be heading out to sea but it will also add to the swells pushing against the shore line and in fact, that rip current danger is moderate and looks remain that way through much of the week. all those waves pile up against the shore line, what piles up must rush back out somewhere along the coast and that's when a rip current develops. when you see a rip current the water is a little more foggy in nature and if you ever caught in a rip current you do not want to fight it. let it take you out and eventually it is going to ease and then you'll go to the right or to the left of that returned rip current... rip current and ride the wave back

to shore. always swim when the beaches are guarded during the day. now that the kids are back to school many of the beaches are not guarded brian so find ones that are and listen to those lifeguards especially this upcoming week. >> we'll do. lots to watch adam. thanks very much. breaking news that led this newscast. chopper6 now live over the garden state parkway in one of several scenes involved in that shooting that has we he mentioned also involves a wawa in egg harbor township. we are now live overt second car involved here. we do know that two people were injured as a result of this shooting. one of them inside this car. we he do not yet know the extent of their injuries or what rated all this but as mentioned sharrie, there is another scene involved here as well. >> this started around 3 o'clock this afternoon. we want to go to the other scene. this is at the wawa that is in egg harbor township on tilton road. this is the other scene involved in this shooting. of course this came in around 3 o'clock today. reports of this 911 call with

shots fired here. we are again being told two people injured in this shooting. very active in two locations at this point. we will continue to follow this breaking news happening at the shore as we get more information. of course we will pass it along on this newscast and online at 6abc.com. >> in the meantime the girlfriend of philadelphia district attorney seth williams is now charged with slashing tires on the security vehicles parked outside his home. the vandalism and arrest just the latest controversy swirling around the city's top prosecutor. "action news" reporter chad pradelli live in center city in front of the d.a.'s officers and chad you've got the details here. >> reporter: yeah, brian her name stacy cummings and she's the girlfriend of district attorney seth williams. yesterday she turned herself in to the police to be charged in this tire slashing of two city owned vehicles outside of williams home. when did williams know about her involvement and two why

did it take so long for her to be charged? the alleged tire slashing happened november 11th of last year. sources say the investigation was initially handled in house by the d.a.'s office. a source tells "action news" under city policy any vandalized city vehicle must be investigated by the philadelphia police detective area which oversees the area where the crime occurred. that didn't happen. mayor jim kenney called the incident a distraction but one he knew little about. >> she shouldn't have done it. she apparently admitted doing it. >> reporter: sources say 12 days after the incident the d.a.'s office reported the crime to police. still, handled the investigation in house. then august 10th of this year nine months after the alleged crime, sources say stacy cummings' attorney went to the d.a.'s office and said they had information about the crime.

it was referred to the delaware county d.a. office and charges were filed rather quickly when sources say cummings confessed though she didn't go into detail about motive. >> leads you wondering there's some blurring of the personal and the professional in this instance that seems a little troubling. >> reporter: david thornburgh is the ceo of the committee of 70 a political watchdog group. he says the recent criminal case and williams' recent disclosure that he failed to report $160,000 in gifts including a $45,000 the new roof should raise questions for voters. and in what may simply be a coincidence cummings authorities went to attorneys on the same day her boyfriend disclosed $160,000 on his amended financial disclosure form august 10th. >> the question for the district attorney is how does taking $160,000 in gifts improve your ability to serve the people of philadelphia? >> reporter: and seth

williams, his office and his attorney so far have had no comment. i'm live in center city, chad pradelli channel6 "action news." >> all right, chad, thank you. it is time now for the "action news" traffic report. >> let's do it on a monday afternoon autumn marisa in for matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center to get us started. >> hi, brian and sharrie. it's a busy one this afternoon. we'll start on the schuylkill expressway a few things to tell you about. that the first one is westbound this is right at girard. we have a disabled bus off to the right-hand shoulder. also on the eastbound lanes right at belmont we have an accident we can't see that in our camera right now three vehicles involved that has been pushed off to the shoulder. penndot is there waiting for the police to arrive. speeds starting to dip down. in the teens on the schuylkill expressway. not looking too balanced on the blue route. if you're on 95 southbound heading towards delaware, about 24 miles per hour right now. another real slow go is on the vine street expressway. in those eastbound lanes we had a disabled vehicle right at eighth street so that really slowed you if you're heading up towards 95 and you

with just one bite, they knew. now it's your turn to make the switch. >> ♪ >> panicked passengers were fleeing, flights were delayed and the roads around los angeles international airport were closed last night after word of gunfire. those reports of an active shooter ended up being false. but they caused chaos sending hundreds of people rushing from the terminals onto tarmacs onto sidewalks and even pushing through security checkpoints. officers responded with weapons drawn and ended up detaining this masked man dressed like the fictional character zorro. but investigators found in evidence of a gun or any shots fired.

luckily there were no serious injuries but about 280 flights were delayed, a few were even canceled. still no word on what exactly the loud noises were that caused the panic in the first place. but at the time passengers did believe that airport was under fire. >> immediately started running, went through an emergency exit that was close to a gate ran down onto runway. >> all of a sudden there was a flood of people that came run into the bathroom saying there's a shooter. i mean everyone was in a huge panic. >> scary stuff there. last night's incident in los angeles follows a similar evacuation at j.f.k. international airport in new york. that scare was provoked by loud noises from olympic celebrations. good news in both incidents no one was hurt but certainly a lot of chaos ensued. sharrie. >> yeah, that is the good news but these are the times we are living in now. okay, alicia. in its latest move to quiet critics the maker of the epipen is resorting to an

that prison farm closed its doors in 1968 and new life there today. >> a sunny and bright day to be outside for the dedication. time now for the accuweather forecast. >> all right, let's send it over to meteorologist adam joseph. golfing sounds pretty good today. >> wear sunscreen. >> yes. >> pretty hot and somewhat miserable in many locations when you combine the humidity especially south of philadelphia. sky6 live right now penn's landing will show again we are sun soaked here to start the new work week and the temperatures again soaring above 90 for most of us. the exception reading allentown, 89 at the last hour. the high so far in philadelphia today is that 93 degrees. 92 in paren ton -- trenton and beach haven. 9292 at the atlantic city airport so you don't have to go in all that much from the immediate shore line to boost those temperatures above 90. there is something pushing through that will change the wind and bring in some drier air and that is a cold front.

dewpoints are running at 63 philadelphia, 68 in washington but 50's now just to our north and a reminder when those dewpoints start to hit the 50's you would say when you step out, hey, feels pretty nice and comfortable out there and that's going to happen tonight. satellite and radar not much in the way of clouds, some high clouds southern new jersey and delaware at the present time so you wouldn't even know there is a front progressing through other than that wind shift out of the north. so, for tonight 59 by tomorrow morning in allentown 60 reading, 61 lancaster, 65 in millville, 70 in philadelphia. plenty of stars under a clear sky but that humidity will be dropping every hour as we go deeper into the overnight. then as we get into your tuesday, one thing you'll notice here, the hourly forecast, you don't see any 90s so this heat wave officially will end tam we'll top off in the upper 80's tomorrow, though. maybe a thermometer or two will try to touch 90 here but the biggest difference with the sun and clouds will be the lower humidity on tuesday. tropical depression number eight is just south and east

of cape hatteras moving to the northwest at seven, winds right now 35 miles an hour. this will more than likely turn into a tropical storm and then will curve and head out to sea wednesday into thursday. it stays relatively weak, 45 to 50 miles an hour winds but with that drifting by here and moving out to sea and still having gaston pulling some of its high swells our way that's going to keep the rip current risk high or moderate through much of the week and then tropical depression number nine that is now entering the gulf of mexico also going to take a curve to the right, could make landfall in northern florida on thursday morning as a tropical storm and this also by the weekend which is labor day will be a strong tropical storm off of the carolinas which again will increase that rip current risk so that will be a key factor as we go into the holiday weekends. but your four day at 4:00 forecast it's 89 tomorrow, warm, less humid. if we stay under 90 this heat wave is over but it's going to be really close here in

new attack ads on hillary clinton while she is dealing with even more fallout from our e-mails during her time as secretary of state. the republican nominee's 10 million-dollar ad is his largest to date. in it he claims clinton will crush the middle classily he plans to use these ads to gain momentum in nine swing states. trump has also announced a major speech on immigration he'll deliver this wednesday in arizona. meanwhile democratic nominee hillary clinton's fundraising is in full force. she raised $5 million in just one day in the hamptons in new york over the weekend. still, she continues to be be haunted by her e-mails from when she was secretary of state. >> it's an amazing situation that neither of these candidates donald trump or hillary clinton can seem to put away the other one because of their own problems there have developed in the course of this whole thing. >> new poll numbers out today from monmouth university show clinton leads trump nationally by seven percentage points.

>> ♪ >> we have new information now about breaking news we have been following out of egg harbor township new jersey. state police say one person was found shot at a wawa in the 2400 block of till ton road. you can see several bullet holes in the car in the store's parking lot. a second victim was found in a car along the garden state parkway. from chopper6 we saw police searching the car for evidence. police are still not releasing many details about the shootings but wawa says the shooting did not happen on its property. we of course will continue to bring you any and all new updates on air and online. now to a viral plea for help. a picture shows a mother trying to find a kidney donation for her daughter by turning her van into a mobile billboard. >> it has now been shared more than 16,000 times on facebook and people have come forward offering to be an organ donor. it was a combination of diabetes and pregnancy that led to jacqueline heden's kidney failure and it might be the combination of modern medicine and social media that brings this story a happy ending. jacqueline of media had been in need of a kidney transplant since 2014. she's on a waiting list but her o positive blood makes finding a match a real challenge. for new she needs dialysis treatment every single day. >> i'm on the machine every night for nine and a half hours while i sleep and it takes fluid in and out of my body cleaning it. >> reporter: two years have passed. no one in the family is a match and so the wait continues. as you would imagine jacqueline's family has grown increasingly anxious. >> we have to try something. we need to be proactive. >> reporter: then recently jacqueline's mother michelle craig got a great idea. she started paining these signs on the back of the family vehicles. >> get the word out there, you know, more -- ammonals my car, you know.

news." forty nine. >> an amazing story walter. thank you. funeral services have now been set for the eight-year-old who died after being shot by a stray bullet in camden. the service for gabrielle carter will be held at the faith holy temple church of god in christ in camden. a public viewing will be held at 9 o'clock on saturday. the funeral will follow at 11:00. it is opened to the public. a $70,000 reward is now being offered in gabrielle's death. she was hit in the head by a stray bullet near her house and no arrests have yet been made. delaware state police say they found the driver involved in a deadly hit and run in wilmington. police say brian james' car was hit by an suv on pennsylvania avenue and broom streets last sunday. james was rushed to christiana hospital but died from his injuries on wednesday. friends and family have set up a roadside memorial now for james near that accident site. >> two people are recovering tonight after they were injured during a violent robbery. this surveillance video from wednesday night shows three suspects breaking into the honey garden chinese garden

restaurant in juniata park. two of the employees were hit with a gun and then dragged into a room. the suspects were able to get away with an unknown amount of money. philadelphia police are searching for the two men who robbed a store in the city's crescentville section. this is surveillance video of the robbery last tuesday afternoon at the metro pcs on the 700 block of adams avenue. police say one of the suspects guarded the door while the other threatened the store employee. the suspects were able to get away with a bag of money but no one was hurt. >> new jersey communities could get millions of dollars to help them get ready for some big future storms under a new pro he pole. senate president steve sweeney introduced a bill in the state legislature today. it always for a new program to distribute state disaster funding to new jersey's 21 counties. sweeney introduced the measure nearly four years after superstorm sandy hammered that region back in 2012. >> four years ago but still

such a big talker. >> hard to believe it was four years ago, right. >> and we're at peek of tropical storm hurricane season right now and it's very active in the atlantic as well as the gulf of mexico which could, you know, bring us some rip current issues this week into the holiday weekends. so as we take a look right now it is hot. philadelphia international airport a few cumulus clouds and humid. dewpoints coming down a little bit from this morning, 63 right now but that air temperature of 93 heat index of 94 but the one thing you want to look at is that wind out of the north, 7 miles an hour. that's going to bring in drier air overnight tonight. so it stays quiet here locally but again the tropics are heating up. they're now tropical storm watches for the outer banks of north carolina near cape hatteras the outer banks as we get into the next 24 to 36 or so hours and it's all because of tropical depression number eight not well organized but you can see the flareup here this afternoon of the thunderstorms trying to wraparound one another. this is expected to become a tropical storm.

whether it's tonight or during the day tomorrow and also tropical depression number nine blowing up on the western tip of cuba there heading into the gulf of mexico which could also reach tropical storm status and then head into northern florida and then off of the carolina coastline. so again we're watching these two areas. not expected to directly hit us but we get indirect effects especially along the shore in the form of those waves and rip currents. we'll talk more about that in the full accuweather forecast in the seven day for labor day weekend. >> talking about the weekend on monday. >> why not. >> i know, all right adam thank you. a new law could make it easier for people with disabilities to find jobs in delaware. governor jack markell signed the bill into law in wilmington today. it offers tax credits to companies that hire qualified employees with disabilities. well, people living in horsham township will meet with council members tonight to address their concerns about water safety. chemicals have been found in the water that is used by

people in horsham warrington and warminster. the contamination is believed to have come from the firefighting foam that was used at the willow grove naval air station. that meeting begins tonight at 6:30 at hatboro horsham high schoolly. >> a man was slot and killed by an off duty police officer in trenton, new jersey, during a struggle for a gun. humidity with a little wedge of high pressure coming in, so tomorrow much more comfortable than it is today and then we'll watch another front progressing through. this will have a little more cloud cover with it and rain coming in wednesday night early on thursday morning but ahead of this front a couple of things. it will boost to 91 degrees, it turns humid and hazy as well and what will be more than likely a tropical storm off of the carolinas on wednesday. this front will kick this out to sea so thankfully it is not going to pull it up the eastern seaboard but we are still tracking the tropical trio out here, some trouble. we have hurricane gaston east of bermuda. this continues to drift to the north and continues to be a fish storm, meaning it has no effect on land owner send something high waves along the eastern seaboard. tropical depression number eight off the carolinas expected to become a tropical storm and the same thing for tropical depression number nine on the tip of cuba right now heading into the gulf of mexico. so, with all three in play

over the open waters and most of them and even including number nine in the gulf of mexico will eventually emerge across florida into the atlantic. we're looking at a rip current danger right through the holiday weekend. moderate to high every single day. waves between three and 5 feet and not only do you have to watch for the rip current risk but waves of that size they have such force coming in to the shore line that the breakers can injure you by knocking you down on the stand. some folks get head injuries also you can have back problems if they hit you from the back as you're heading back into the shore line and also you want to swim on guarded beaches. many of the beaches are no longer guarded in new jersey and delaware because many of the students are going back to school so definitely find those guarded beaches. 77 is the ocean temperature. if you're heading to the shore for tomorrow still very warm and inviting 81 in new jersey, 82 tomorrow so much cooler at the shore with that that sea
