florida and after it's done with the sunshine state it's headed here to wash out our holiday weekend unfortunately. thursday night jim is off i'm rick williams and the big story on action news is tracking hermine behind me is what it looks like from nasa satellites in space. and this is what it looks like from appacola the florida panhandle as the storm is lashing the gulf coast at this hour. we have live team coverage this evening as tropical storm hermine watches have already been posted for our area action news reporter christie is at the jersey shore where there is a costal concern this evening, and let's begin with metrologist adam joseph and the power of storm tracker six double scan as hermine is about to strike the u.s. and adam you have the latest. >> live double scan to the south of tallahassee and winds sustained at 80 miles per hour, you can see the intense bands of heavy rain, thunderstorms strong winds spiralling in around the

center of hermine and if we close in you can see that eye wall is now brushing the coast near appalachacola and to the east hitting florida for the first time in nearly 11 years that a hurricane has made landfall and you can see the intense of bands of rain wrap around the center of the storm and that is where the most intense part of the storm is always situated so it is happening right now with that landfall located in the big bend of florida. the last time a hurricane made landfall was 2005 that was hurricane wilma and this is the first u.s. landfalling hurricane in two years. for us we have tropical storm watches in effect for the entire jersey shore as well as the delaware beaches and extends down into maryland and virginia, a watch means the potential is there for winds to be sustained over 40 miles per hour, the possibility of power outages and tropical storm warnings in effect from cape haderus to the

coastal communities of the state of georgia. as we look at the very latest track that just came out from the national hurricane center once it makes landfall it will weaken and winds 50 miles per hour friday and saturday, on saturday morning it emerges off the coast of north carolina and then between saturday at 8:00 p.m. and tuesday at 8:00 p.m. this system is going to stall just off of our coastline and notice what happens with the winds on sunday, they will actually increase as the storm strengthens just off of our coast. rick i'll let you know what that means for us locally here especially along the shore coming up, in that full accuweather forecast. >> all right adam and check back this later and thank you and go to action reporter christie on the border and the storm will have an impact on the unofficial end of summer at the shore this weekend. >> that is right rick it's no secret that when there is bad weather and it's stormy outside

the foreseeable future and talking about lead in the water here at the university and as it stands right now students cannot consume any tap water that is here coming off the campus. on rowan university campus you will notice that almost everyone is carrying around bottled water and there is a profound reason why the campus tap water has tested positive for lead. >> it's in the fountains too, it's everywhere. it's in the sinks so i have been just carrying jugs. >> discovery was made after discolored water was noticed in some dorms. >> i got the e-mail after i drank a whole bottle out of the sink. >> the glass for municipal water test came back negative for lead and the problem lies within the campus specifically old buildings and old piping. >> the buildings are all pre-1986 which is the year when construction materials were not allowed to have lead in them. >> in fact, we are told there is no quick fix to this each of the 50 buildings on campus has to be

starting to hit land winds near the eye off shore showing north 55 miles per hour gusting to 61 miles per hour, it's just a powerful storm as it is now making landfall in florida and the first hurricane to make landfall in florida in 11 years. tropical storm watches are up for our coastline, we have not had a tropical storm watch since sandy. down in the beaches in delaware also that watch up for the up coming weekend meaning the potential is there, it's not definite but a watch means potential is there for winds to reach tropical storm force over 39 miles per hour sustained and the possibility of those power outag outages. as we track hermine pulls across georgia and south carolina tomorrow afternoon you still see that classic circulation, it starts to get close to the virginia north carolina border early on saturday morning, we start to see the cloud cover increasing and then it emerges over the open water of the atlantic which is very warm so

it will be in weakened state at first on saturday afternoon with light rain developing but as it hits that warm ocean and gets extra energy from the north it is actually going to deepen, strengthen as we get into sunday off of our coast there is the center and there is atlantic city and you can see the heavy rain spiralling around that storm and backing in from the ocean. so future tracker wind gusts saturday at 4:00, 41 miles per hour along the shore, 20 or so miles per hour gusts in philadelphia and i-95, 24 hours later we are still dealing with winds coming in out of the northeast, 60 or greater at the shore, interior southern new jersey and right around that 40 or so miles per hour wind gusts from philadelphia to new jersey and that is going to create moderate to major flooding at times of high tide and just after a new moon so saturday 9:40 p.m. is the fist tide and sunday morning 10:07 and sunday night at 10:17 are the tides we are watching and taking a look
