vitarelli the big story on "action news" is hermine's next move. the storm will soon be pushing off the atlantic coast and has a chance of affecting our region during the labor day weekend. and the florida panhandle took the first beating, it brought strong winds and heavy rain and it could head here next, and tropical storm warnings are in effect for the new jersey and delaware coastlines. jeanette reyes is at the shore where people are hoping for the best. we begin with melissa magee with an update from the national hurricane center. >> reporter: that is right. as we head into the holiday weekend. here is the latest with hermine. it did make landfall as a hurricane 1. it has weakened over land now, currently over georgia, you can see the moisture coming in from the atlantic and the heavy rain from georgia up to the

carolinas, this will continue to travel to the north and east as we go through the rest of today and tonight. we have tropical storm watches and warnings posted up and down the eastern coast. for the warnings they extend from savannah, georgia, up into cape hatteras as well. for us we are underneath a tropical storm watch from surf city to atlantic city and rehoboth beach. ocean city, maryland updated to a tropical storm warning. here is the latest, right now a tropical storm winds sustained at 50 miles per hour and moving northeast at 15 miles per hour. it is expected to ride over the carolinas today and off the shore of the atlantic coast. once that occurs, and we do have the storm moving off the mid-atlantic coast. it will essentially stall out south and east of atlantic city and southeast of jersey as well. and a change, a windshield wiper

effect until the storm moves offshore. this is the latest and update. as it moves off the coast, from sunday the winds with this storm are 65 miles per hour, but by monday it reaches hurricane strength to 75 miles per hour so that is the update and that is the change it goes from tropical storm strength to hurricane strength across our region and this could have an impact across our region especially at the coast. this is what we are calling for prolonged on shore winds saturday night right through sunday, gusts up to 60 miles per hour and coastal flooding and beach erosion and possibly the heavy rain. coming up we'll look closer at the track of hermine and what it means for the shore and inland locations across our region. with the exclusive accuweather forecast. >> thank you. it just keeps changing we have to stay locked into what you are telling us. looking live at cape may this

could be the calm before the storm. it's a nice friday afternoon but as we tell you rip currents are still a problem today and hermine could threaten the holiday weekend plans. jeanette reyes is live from atlantic city where hopefully people are soaking in the nice day we are having today. >> reporter: alicia you said it there, it's a gorgeous day, the calm before the storm, i can tell you though, it is already not looking like your typical friday, the boardwalk is normally much busier than what it is right now, with the storm heading our way it seems like the storm is heading our way and bracing for the economic impact. >> you'll see hermine in action, the closer you are to the coastline, rough surf and high winds are expected and minor to coastal flooding is a possibility. just how much of a problem hermine will be in is the air and the impact of an impending

storm is already felt, businesses were preparing for a big weekend. but if foot traffic looks like it does now, their bottom line will take a hit. >> the summer was a big hit but this is the last big hit. people are here today and tomorrow and sunday is up in the air. and so is monday i guess. but hopefully the storm will stay offshore and i'm thinking positive that the rain will stay away. >> you know optimism is the key, a lot of businesses are hoping they can make up for losses that they feel over the weekend, that they can make up for it on labor monday. and keeping their fingers crossed and hoping for the best. reporting live in atlantic city, jeanette reyes channel 6 "action news." meanwhile, organizers of made in america on the ben franklin parkway, are preparing for what is shaping up to be a

champagne in color and possibly a buick. and the driver of that striking vehicle was speeding down frankford avenue before hitting the victim. just before 2:00 a.m. here in the 5700 block of frankford avenue when a car hit a man on the bike tossing him on the hood and landing in the grass. >> this was a violent crash. the bicycle that the victim was riding was broken in half. >> according to police and witness accounts, the 42 victim stayed in the bike lane when the suspect crossed into the bake line. >> the bike has at least three lights still blinking even after the auto accidents. >> medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. after analyzing debris and car parts this morning, they have a better idea of the vehicle trips seen fleeing north on frankford.

it's a beauty out there but changes are coming. there are more changes in the track with hermine as we get into the rest of the weekend and the next 24 to 48 hours. lets show you what is going on outside. stormtracker 6 live double scan radar, you can see it's dry and quiet and no issues with

precipitation and a beautiful day, with low humidity across the region, and very dry conditions, that is more than likely going to change for portions of our viewing area as we get into the holiday weekend. gorgeous outside coming in at 77 and 75 in reading, and 66 in the poconos and at the coast in cape may, 77 and a nice northerly wind drying out the atmosphere, dew point numbers responding nicely, and most locations have dew point numbers in the lower 50s. nice and comfortable. any place with an uptick in the humidity, cape may 64 dew points. you can see it's dry and quiet across the region, from new england to the mid-atlantic as well. thanks to the dominating ridge of high pressure. and the high pressure will stall things up in our region as it relates to tropical storm

hermine. here is the latest with tropical storm hermine. winds sustained at 50 miles per hour. it made landfall just east of saint marks, florida. it is starting to weaken but all the moisture as welcoming in from the atlantic pressing over georgia as it moves to the north and east and heads for the carolinas, here is the latest with the track of hermine, winds 50 miles per hour moving to the northeast at 18 miles per hour. and then this will more than likely move over the carolinas later on today and into tonight and off the mid-atlantic coast as we get into the weekend and as we said earlier, there are change in the path of the storm, and the track of the storm until it moves offshore, we do know that the storm will stall once it moves off the atlantic coast. they say it's still a tropical

storm on monday but by monday it strengthens into a category 1 hurricane by monday morning this means it stalls out across our region and strengthening and this could add more wind especially for coastal sections of new jersey. future tracker 6 rainfall looks like this, a tight gradient as far as where you find the precipitation, not a lot for the poconos and the lehigh valley. about .16 in philadelphia and .25 in wilmington but the coast 1.5 inch according to this model. and 1.33 inches in atlantic city. i think there will be a big concern with rip currentses and rough surf issues. and it depends on the track of the storm here. it's nice and bright today down at the shore high of 79, saturday rain and windy as well. high of 75, tropical conditions on the way.
