september 3, we, of course, are keeping an on eye tropical storm hermine which has dealt a serious blow for the florida panhandle to the carolinas, it could put a damper on your labor day celebrations in particular at shorepoints up and down the jersey and the delaware coast. >> breaking news out of atlantic city, an atlantic city police officer has been shot and is in critical condition after an exchange of gunfire. another person was shot and killed in that shootout. this happened in the parking garage of the caesar's casino 2100 block of pacific avenue around 3:30 a.m. there's a heavy police presence right now always authorities look for at least two other

suspects. >> we know this morning, new jersey state police troopers have set up command post in the bass pro shop. pacific avenue is closed between missouri and ohio avenue. atlantic city police officer has been critically injured in the shooting. another person was shot and killed. first made landfall yesterday morning as a hurricane. it is blamed for bringing down trees and flooding roads and eroding beaches with high winds and surf. chris sowers is here with the impact hermine will have on our area. chris. , good morning to you, nydia and gray, all seems to be coming together as anticipated here with tropical storm hermine. the national hurricane center has maximum stained winds up to 60 miles per hour and jogging off to the east/northeast at 20 miles per hour. the outer feared bands are pushing close -- feeder bands are pushing closer and closer to cape may. and southern sussex county is getting rain, as well. the storm is moving east/northeast at 20 miles per hour. all of a sudden it will hit a brick wall here, a blocking high pressure system, it will make a left hook like sandy did, it

will not come onshore like sandy did. it will stall 100 miles off the coast before making the left turn and meander about before getting out of here wednesday or thursday. we have 48 hours where the jersey shore will take an absolutely pounding. not only will we see rough surf we'll seacoastal flooding and winds -- coastline flooding out of the northeast. west of delaware river you'll not see much in the way of rain. the winds speeds will be up there a little bit, but not expecting gust as high as the jersey shore and you may see sunshine this weekend. as the storm gets closer, you can see the 30-foot swells getting closer to the jersey shore. you see the lines here this is called a fetch, the lines moving in the same direction for hundreds of and hundreds of miles. the longer the fetch is, the greater the wave heights become.

these waves will batter the shore sunday into monday. looking at 25-foot waves before this finally begins to exit stage right by the middle of this week. minimal impacts expected with the storm inland i-95 points north and west. jersey shore gets pounded. there could be low lying evacuations. when i come back we'll have all the details and the latest information and the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. >> now, the surf is rougher ahead of hermine's impact on the area. people soaking in the holiday weekend in ocean city are ready for whatever hermine brings. >> hunker down and watch tv. >> reporter: that what the plan is? >> pretty much. >> you're going to get wet in the ocean or the pool so we'll be out on the boardwalk. >> reporter: getting wet. >> absolutely.

happen. >> in other news, dui charges are possible for a driver who crashed in cumberland, delaware county. the black acura was traveling southbound on i-95 when it driver lost control and pierced the guardrail and plunged 70 feet a in a wooded area. the vehicle came to rest on chester pike around midnight. the driver and passenger were hurt, but their injuries are non-life threatening. another accident on i-95 sent three people to the hospital, this crash happened on the interstate near woodhaven road in northeast philadelphia around 20:30 p.m. one person was -- 10:30 p.m. one person was seriously injured. traffic came to a stand still in the westbound lanes while the accident was investigated. >> an atlantic city police officer is shot and in critical

casino located in the 2100 block of pacific avenue. we know one officer was shot. that officer is in critical condition. we're waiting an update on the sister's condition. meantime we can tell you that one person was shot and killed in this shootout that happened in the caesar's casino parking garage. state troopers are searching the area they are using k-9 dogs they are patrol trolling -- patrolling the area looking for two suspects involved in the shooting. police with long rifles search the area looking for two shooters. this is unfolding at 3:30 a.m. unfortunately one officer shot in critical condition. one person is dead as a result of the shootout. we're working to get you more information we have a crew on the way. we'll pass that on to you. >> turning to accuweather and of course, tropical storm

hermine. >> reporter: a lot will depend on the track in the next 48 hours. the closer the storm is to the coast, the worst the impact. the farther out to sea, the lessor the impact. i'll run down the scenarios in just a moment. beautiful shot in atlantic city, you can he assume the sun starting to rise, that's a beautiful shot, this morning, but you can see the camera is starting to shake. the winds are starting to pick up, they will continue to pick up throughout the day. the wind will roar down the jersey shore overnight tonight and sunday and monday morning. double scan live showing it's not too far to the south pushing over the mouth of the delaware bay. here's extreme sussex county here, ocean city maryland seeing heavy rain. all this is lifting to the north. if you have outdoor plans, today is an all right day, it will be cloudy, the breezes will pick

up. the only location it will be wet weather and the delaware beaches and the jersey shore. if you have outdoor plans, keep them, don't cancel them. it's later tomorrow and into monday, things turn downhill quickly. look at the areas of high pressure, the low can't keep traveling to the north it will hit that high. it's like running into a brick wall. it will stall off the coast. same thing for sunday, actually it will push closer to the coastline that's when we start to feel some of the impact from hermine as the system continues to sit and spin and churn up the waters. we could see waves in excess of 13, 14 feet with the system sunday night into monday morning. the spaghetti plots what you're looking at, each line represents the forecast model. you're looking at the lines very close together, the model are in agreement here. once we get into monday, you see

the loop deloop, that's the model don't know what to do. the farther away it is from the coast, the lessor the impact it is going to be. if it is one of these guys, that's a bad scenario for us. it's good we have to continue and wait and see how it plays out. once it re-emerges over the water which it will do in the next ten hours or so, we'll have a hand on what's going on. northwestern suburbs, will say what storm. sunshine and clouds, maybe a shower sunday into monday. it will be breezy. i-95 metro area, sun to start, period of rain comes late sunday, sunday night into early morning and then for the jersey shore this is the area that will get hit the hardest, light rain developing today. rain on sunday, the wind pick up, there will be coastal

flooding out there. future tracker 6 we'll time it out for you, mainly cloudy today, sunday morning, here's smfort -- some of the rain that's starting to push in off the ocean. north and west you're dry, south and east we're picking up the rain. monday morning it's starting to pull away. you're seeing the ten to 15-foot waves, but the wet weather pulls away. monday, looks like a half inch to an inch from the delaware river south and east. one to two in the darker shade, 2 to 4 for the jersey shore as well as the delaware beaches. that's where the winds will be the strongest. we could see gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour. still even well inland, 50 to 60-mile an hour gust in the city of philadelphia, you could see a 40 to 50-mile an hour gust.

hermine. there's the city of philadelphia right there. the path is uncertainty even though it's less than 400 miles away. the reason is because of we have a huge blocking high pressure system to the north. this is where hermine sits west of cape hatteras, it will continue on its path up to the northeast racing at 22 miles per hour. it will feel the effects of the high and stop dead in its tracks. the forecast model show it will meander around before getting back to the coast and it will get out of here wednesday, thursday, next week. as it does this, it will get closer to the jersey shore, that's when we see the worse conditions from the system. you can see the agreement win the lines taking it off the coast of cape hatteras, this is sunday and monday you can see the loop deloop here, if you're

>> it is 6:30 a.m. saturday, we are of course tracking tropical storm hermine. but first we want to give you an update on the breaking news in atlantic city. >> an atlantic city police officer has been shot and is in critical condition after an exchange of gunfire. a suspect was shot and killed in the shootout. there is a search for two more suspects. this happened in the parking

garage of the 2100 block of pacific avenue. pacific avenue is closed between missouri and ohio as police with rifles search the area. new jersey state police have set up a staging area at the bass pro shop at arkansas and missouri avenue. the injured officer is in surgery. we'll have a live report in the next half-hour of "action news." well is it a sign of things to come? tropical storm hermine has left her mark on several southern states bringing high winds and heavy surf and flooding. good morning, once again, it is saturday, september 3, i'm nydia han. >> thank you for waking up with us, i'm gray hall. the entire coast of delaware and new jersey are under a tropical storm warning. chris sowers is keeping a very close eye on hermine and where it is heading next and what it may mean for the holiday weekend

chris, what's the latest track? >> reporter: the latest track is similar to what away saw yesterday evening. it will move off to the northeast and do a loop deloop and get closer to the coast of new jersey. tropical storm force warnings continue for long island all the way down into the carolina coast. we're expecting the winds to advance from south to north as the day progresses, especially sunday and monday, that's when the wind start to pick up. the center of the storm is situated right here, just to the west of cape hatteras. you can see the outer feeder bands working their way in a counter clockwise fashion wrapping around the center of circulation getting closer to the alert of the viewing area. right now looks like extreme southern delaware and the tip of cape may county is getting wet weather. it will take a long time for

this thing to work right over parts of our viewing area, because it's moving out to sea to start, and then it makes the lnld turn that's when -- left hand turn that's when we feel the effects of hermine. had the storm not made the left turn it is heading straight like this, because it is suspected to make the left hand turn that's why we'll see the conditions deteriorate and 60-plus mile an hour wind down the the shore sunday and monday and heavy rains. 274 miles to the south of the city of philadelphia. by tuesday morning it may strengthen back to a hurricane before pulling to the north an working away from the viewing area. as far as time sg -- timing is concerned for the viewing area, it's later this afternoon, the gust also start to approach 40 to 45 miles per hour. sunday and monday this is when the winds are at their peak we're starting to see 9 to

our inter active map for the latest conditions where you live. plus, check the path of the storm as it moves up the coast and follow our "action news" team of meteorologists on social media for any updates. new this morning, a fire has killed a person in mercer county, tooj. the victim was -- new jersey, the victim was found inside a home. police officer got to the home first, but couldn't get into the home because the flames and smoke were too much. firefighters arrived and found the victim already dead. this driver is talking about a close call. despite all the damage, this could have been worse of the car plowed into a fence and over a pool and took out a deck. the driver was on her way home from work. the car collided with a pick up in northeast philadelphia. the car's driver told our jeff chirico about the scary seconds after hitting the truck.

anyone from getting hurt. >> we're tracking hermine. >> reporter: what you saws -- what you saw, the damage is from wind. the bigger problem will be the incredible surf, the waves generated from the center of the storm. there's a live look in cape may. you can see angry swells. we have five to 6-foot breakers already and the storm is 400 miles away. double scan live, for now we're clear, if you look toward the bottom of the screen underneath the sticker there you can see shades of green starting to show up. that's the northern fringe of storm system, as we flip it over to storm tracker 6 live, you can see the outer edges, the outer feeder bands wrapping around the center of the storm that is centered west of cape hatteras. i have the buoy reports off the

coast of cape hatteras, we're seeing 16-foot waves, winds gusting 45 miles per hour. here's another buoy 100 miles off the coast of virginia beach. winds are gusting to 54 miles per hour. waves heights up to 13 feet. ocean city maryland, you can see winds out of the east sustained at 18 miles per hour gusting close to 30. water temperatures 73 we're seeing wave heights 5 to 7 feet. that rough surf you saw toward the south that will lift north and get closer to our neck of the woods as the day progresses. these are sustained winds at the coast anywhere from 10 to 15 miles per hour, we're also seeing gusts as high as 30 miles per hour already. again, with the storm 400 miles away, you can imagine what's going to happen when the center gets off the coast of atlantic city. for today, double barrel area of high pressure putting the block right on this tropical storm, which means it will sit there and spin for 48 hours.

we get into sunday you will feel the effects there. it can't lift to the west or the northeast, it's surrounded by high pressure it will sit and spin and churn up the waters. again, with the winds and the steady line from northeast to southwest the shore will take a pounding. the spaghetti plot shows each model representing, each line, excuse me, each line representing a specific forecast model. until we get to the loop deloop, the model doesn't know what to do. if it takes on one of these lines out here and shifts a good 50 to 100 miles out to sea, the lessor the impact will be for the jersey shore. wave heights will start to build over the next 48 hours. 340-foot waves by sunday afternoon just offshore, 9 to 15-foot waves expected hitting the beaches. we get into monday morning, still 25 to 30-foot waves.

monday evening into tuesday, that storm begins to pull away. wind speeds anywhere from 35 to 50 miles per hour, tomorrow into monday, for today we'll see gusts as high as 40 or 45 miles per hour and we really start to get into the thick of it here. sunday afternoon into monday, out of the northeast 48 miles per hour in lakehurst. close to 50 in wildwood and atlantic city. monday morning we're seeing 50 to 60-mile an hour we're seeing the water pile up here as we have a high tide we'll have an abnormally high tide to begin with because we have a new moon. when the winds is forcing this water inland it's not getting a chance to recede. the coastal water will get worse with each and every high tide sunday morning through monday night. minimum impact inland. you might not see anything at all west of philadelphia. maybe a couple of showers is in the city, that's about it. no big impact i-95 points and

delaware beaches. this is a sandy type storm -- this is not a sandy-type storm where everybody gets into the act. this is where you are farther away from the water, the less impact you'll see. 30 or 40 miles west of philadelphia. you'll not see anything at all. clouds and sun, breezy, there could be a shower sunday night into monday morning. i-95 metro area look for clouds tomorrow and monday. there will be a period of rain sunday night into monday, it will be windy. really it's the jersey shore you'll see showers today, it's raining sunday afternoon and monday, strong gusty winds and the possibility of a 2 to 4-foot storm surge which would create coastal flooding. the exact path is uncertain because of this area of high pressure sitting right here. i was explaining this earlier. the high will not allow hermine to continue on its journey up the eastern seaboard.

it will pull to the north it will hit this high like a block in the road. the models don't know what to do with it. some of the models do a loop deloop a like this and bring the storm closer to shore. it if happened out to sea you will not see an impact for the jersey shore, it will. we're not leaning toward this, but it's up in the air. look at the spaghetti plot, each line represents a forecast model, they are close together, but they are a mess once they get off the coast of new jersey. you can see a little bit of a conight here. one thing is for certain, that's the tide, sunday, morning, sunday night, monday morning, if you're down the shore, do not park your car in a flood-prone
