meteorologist chris sowers and david murphy both, of course, tracking the storm. >> guys this storm could stick around for a while. >> reporter: it does look like it will have an effect on us today and tomorrow and probably on tuesday. the latest on the storm system itself, it has continued to move toward the east. 6 hours ago, it was closer to the coast now it's 250 miles out to sea. that greater denies will help us -- distance will help us today. we expect the storm to hook toward us tonight and especially tomorrow that will bring the rain and wind profiles up a little bit as we go through the day tomorrow. rain right now there's hardly anything on the map. we have light showers evaporating at this point and disappearing to the south of baltimore. we expect the day to be dry across the majority of the region. the only chance of a sprinkle or shower will be along the coast. that seems to be a small chance. one thing that hadn't changed is
7:02 am
the impact on the shore in terms of flooding and storm surge and heavy surf ascertain rip current activity. you're discouraged from entering the water along the jersey and delaware beaches. the waves are the feet north of long beach island. 8 feet from atlantic city to ocean city. 7 feet and 6 feet toward cape may and rehoboth beach. 6-foot waves are producing pounding surf and dangerous rip current and dangerous breakers. we have an i don't know -- on shore wind that will push the water into the back bays and on the beach that will give us a problem with flooding along the coast. we're looking at coastal flooding at high tide that will be moderate.
7:03 am
tonight's high tide we'll be talking moderate to major flooding along the coast. not as much rain, the winds are down a little bit, chris, but we have all the same issues along the ocean front. we have a slight shift to the east during the overnight hours, the rainfall is not as heavy for the jersey shore. we expect coastal flooding, rough surf 7 to 9-foot waves. we'll see strong gusty winds, as well. the winds not as strong, but you'll see perhaps 50 to 55-mile an hour wind gusts. future tracker 6, i fast forwarded this to 3:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. that's about as close as the center of the storm will get to the coastline. it will start to pull away, we get into tuesday and wednesday, slowly drifts to the east, we'll see improvements for the delaware beaches and the jersey shore. here's the wind profile. at its across closest, you can e winds push westward an start to impacts the jersey shore.

jersey shore. >> many are asked to leave, right? >> reporter: a lot of visitors were asked to leave yesterday, not a mandatory evacuation, if there's high tide and flooding, they want to make sure everybody gets out in an orderly fashion. i keep looking over my shoulder, there's a surfer in the water. he went in not wearing a wet suit. as of yesterday, stone harbor telling people not to go in the water, because they are concerned about the waves and the rip currents, as well him we're keeping our eye on him, right now, i don't see him, he will emerge, he looked like he knew what he was doing. people are coming out here to take a walk, a number of people i talked to said they didn't even know that stone harbor was asking visitors to leave. things to be concerned will when
7:07 am
the high tide that comes again that happens early this afternoon 11:14, that one you heard david say is only going to be minor to moderate. it's late tonight that one could approve to be major flooding and it could have issues about getting off the island. already there's a popular roadway that next-door in avalon that connects avalon to sea isle city the townsend inlet i believe is the name of it, the townsend inlet bridge that was closed at 10:00 a.m. yesterday, due to flooding conditions, not sure if that has reopened yet. as far as a state of emergency this is one of the county that falls under that for what governor chris christie has asked for has requested for the state of emergency, giving them more tools to work with in case they get the intense flooding, again, back out here live, looking for the surfer, we'll go back and keep our eye on him.
