properties and left hundreds of thousand without power from florida to virginia. >> the sun is shining, but the water is down right dangerous. >> we have reports at the shore and david murphy and chris sowers are tracking the storm. david we have new model information. >> reporter: things are tracking in our favor, although it's still a strong storm and presents concerns to us. the movement is taking the storm farther away from us, although i'm beginning to detect a curve to the north that we are expecting later today. eventually we'll see it dive back toward the coastline later tonight and tomorrow before it does another turn and goes on out to sea. as it comes back looks like it will strengthen a little bit. it's so far to the east the impact on the jersey shore may not be as severe as originally thinking. because the storm is so far

away, any rain we saw earlier has dissipated off the maps. we'll see sun and clouds, maybe a few clouds later today pushing in from the east. storm tracker 6 live double scan, just like we like it on a holiday weekend no rain. the issue at the shore is not gone, i don't want to downplay the problems we're looking at down there. the waves are coming in 9 feet north of long beach island and 8 feet closer to ac. most of the immediate coastline is looking at 6 to 7-foot waves in new jersey and delaware. the winds are gusting at 28 miles per hour not all that strong just yet. we're looking at heavy pounding surf, most places are telling you not to go in the water. that should be the rule for everybody today because of the dangerous rip currents. we're looking at a surge coming in on the ocean we expect coastal flooding later tonight and at times of high tide tomorrow morning. one change we're no longer expecting necessarily major

flooding. looks like it will moderate flooding at times of high tide tonight and tomorrow. that can calls problems and that along with the strong winds coming in, we'll get gusts up over 40 or 50 down the shore which is enough to pull off aluminum siding or shingles that can become a project tile, but generally speaking easing back on this. inland looking good and tomorrow pretty good. chris sowers is outside, chris you're lining up the changes and what to expect in the next couple of hours. >> reporter: speaking of beautiful, it is lovely on city avenue. comfortable, combination of sun and clouds, a nice gentle breeze, it's refreshing temperatures in the 70s. david was talking about the shift to the east, farther out to sea. here's what it means as we look at the forecast modeling information. here's a look at the sustained wind speeds.

if you remember from the early this morning, the yellow shade that's tropical storm force winds. the orange shade is winds in excess of 58 miles per hour. early this morning that reached the jersey shore, watch what happens now, as we march along looks like the bulk of it stays out to sea. that's the sudden shift outward or to the east, meteorologist david murphy was talking about here. we have changes this afternoon that are in our favor. the storm is trending eastward on the modeling. we are expecting moderate flooding, but we've removed the words like major and severe. some roads could be impassable, but overall it should be less of an event we saw 24, 36 hours ago. tides of concern, the evening tide tonight will feature moderate tidal flooding and same thing with tomorrow morning and the evening high tide.

ventured out on the beach in brigantine enjoying the sunrise and watching the ocean swells, but officials are warning the storm is still coming. >> we're expecting it to make the northwest turn and hook back into us late tonight and tomorrow. we anticipate high winds and flooding tonight into tomorrow morning. >> reporter: that's why crews worked this morning to push sand up into the beach entrances to protect against storm surge. voluntary evacuations are in place for anyone who saw flooding in previous storms. guards have been patrolling the sand with vehicles making sure people don't go into the water. they want people to use this time to secure items on their property. we found folks who did that. >> we tied down all the outside furniture. with -- we're watching the news and seeing when high tide is and when the water is coming up.

assessment to leave town saturday. >> we love it here, it's a happy place and quiet place, if we leave we leave. >> we have not decided. >> reporter: near ton harbor, police shut down the townsend inlet bridge due to high waves. downtown stone harbor, businesses put out sandbags, but uncle bill's pancake house, the owner saw a steady stream of customers. >> we were not sure what to expect. but waking up this morning, realizing that people were still around and coming in for breakfast, it's a good day. >> i can you out here right now there's a lot of people still here at the beach. the stone harbor beach patrol is nearly fully staffed, as well. they are keeping their eye on the water and i want to

reiterate all swimming activities are canceled, and channel 6 "action news" back to you. >> now let's get caught up with the latest track of hermine. good news? >> reporter: yeah, it started to shift a little bit out to sea, we've tone it down a little bit. we are not dropping it altogether, but we have taken major and severe out of the risk category and put in moderate. we'll go live down the jersey shore, we're in atlantic city, you can see how rough the surf is. it will continue to build. that's one thing that has not changed. we're expecting dangerous rip currents and rough seas that will build 9 to 12 feet this afternoon. the combination of that and the dangerous rip currents means no swimming. it's advised not to venture into the waters. double scan live, crystal clear,

jersey shore mainly clear this afternoon and combination of sun and clouds, more clouds than sun, we are not expecting any wet weather this afternoon. atlantic city, 74. philadelphia with all the sunshine we bumped up the high up to 80. originally had it at 78. allentown, 77. poconos still in the 60s. 69 degrees, tropical storm warnings continue up and down the jersey shoreline and the delaware bay and the delaware beaches and the center of circulation continues to drift to the east, it's starting to slow down now which was anticipated it's starting to get picked up by an approaching trough that will drift to the west before going out to sea. it's when it makes the left hand we'll see the moderate flooding. tonight's high tide and first tide tomorrow morning. spaghetti plot each line representing a specific forecast model showing a left-hand turn, they are not going like this and coming out, they are making a

jog to the left and then going out. think how many times we talk about a nor'easter and we have 6 to 12 inches and the slightest shift out to sea we get 2 or 3. it's same kind of thing because it's a coastal storm. huge differences for the eastern seaboard. combination of sun and clouds, overnight tonight the clouds lower and thicken across the jersey shore. there will be rain showers and heavier bands first thing tomorrow morning, but again, the bulk of the storm should stay out to sea. everybody else is looking at a combination of sun and clouds tomorrow afternoon. it's another nice day. winds speeds we've toned it down a little bit, it's a windy day down the jersey shore. 40 miles per hour up to point pleasant beach or belmawr. 40-mile an hour gusts expected tore interior sections of south jersey. wave heights we toned that down a little bit. we're up to 15.

we're expecting major beach erosion, moderate coastal flooding is expected. there's the wind gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour. forecast for today, it's a nice finish to the weekend, sun and clouds windy, 80 degrees in the city. upper 70s north and west, low to mid 70s for the jersey shore. atlantic city and cape may, 73. millville, 76. dover, 76 degrees, the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, once hermine gets out of here, look at the heat that's charging this way. 80 degrees today and tomorrow. windy conditions this afternoon and once again on labor day. look for combination of sun and clouds both days, warmer tuesday, 87. humidity levels are fairly calm. that changes by week's end. as the heat moves in the humidity moves in, as well. 93, 94, and 92, it will feel higher than those temperatures there.

and chris sowers are tracking hermine. we'll start with david, seems like the system has been downgraded a little bitment. >> reporter: there are changes we want to report to you. this is still a strong, dangerous storm. swimg in the water -- swimming in the water not a good idea in the next couple of days. the center of the storm is well out to sea at this point, a little farther east than what was originally projected. as you see the latest movement of the center of the storm beginning to curve to the north, it is projected to come back closer to our coast before it takes off. that move toward the coast if it is going to happen will be later tonight and into the early part of tomorrow. always it moves closer, the highest impact is expected from the storm. overall, things may be getting better for us. as we look at storm tracker 6 live double scan there's one way its gotten better. we started to downplay the idea of rain.

we'll get hardly anything out there today, probably nothing from here on out. tomorrow is probably not all that rainy either, but as we get into tonight and tomorrow, we have issues at the shore. our local ocean front usually anywhere 8 to 6 feet is what we're looking at. winds gusting at 28 miles per hour not all that strong just yet. but we still have heavy surf and dangerous rip currents up and down the delaware and new jersey coastlines along all beaches. most lifeguards are keeping people out of the water. that's a good idea. we're looking at times of coastal flooding with high tide tonight and tomorrow. because of the system that's moving toward us, won't push as far west as we think it might. that means moderate coastal flooding tonight and tomorrow's high tide. in a storm when we talk about

moderate flooding we're descriptive about it. looks like it's not going to be major flooding that's going to be a bit of a break. chris sowers is outside, chris you're tracking the changes in the storm's future and what that means to us. >> reporter: good afternoon, dave, it means we've toned things down a little bit with wind and rain and how we worded the flooding. let's go over to the graphics and show you the latest forecast model coming into the weather center. this is a look at the sustained wynfield with hermine. the yellow shade 39 to 57-mile an hour winds the orange shade represent 58-mile an hour. last night this model showed the yellow area that yellow shaded area actually reaching as far west as the jersey shore. here's the latest update, that's as far west as it gets, 50 miles per hour offshore that's the

stunning shift to the east out to sea that meteorologist david murphy was talking about. that's good news because that will ease things down just a little bit. jersey shore, as far as heavy rains we just about removed that from the forecast altogether. there will be showers down there overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. there could be a quick-hitting downpour, as well, but we're not expecting the one, two, three inches of rain like we were thinking a couple of days. beach erosion will be high, you're looking at 9 to 12-foot waves battering the beaches for several hours, 24 to 48 hours, that remains on the high side, but we've toned the power outages down a little bit as well we've changed that from high to moderate. here's a look at the tides that will be impacted that's tonight's high tide and tomorrow morning's high tide and tomorrow evening high tide. none of them in the major flooding category, they have been lord to moderate flooding -- lowered to moderate

flooding, that's nothing to laugh at. moderate flooding at all other times is significant. down the jersey shore it's a little bit better than it was early this morning. that's latest on hermine. when i come back in just a few minutes, i'll have a look at the lovely seven-day forecast which features another heat wave. >> still a dangerous storm. we have a team of reporters keeping a close eye on the waves. >> indeed we do, annie mccormick is live in stone harbor, you saw a surfer get carried away. >> reporter: hes with a so eager to get out there, within minutes he drifted down a mile away from where he got into the water. a short time later we saw stone harbor police talking to him. we did see two other surfers go in. since then we have not seen people go into the water. i want you to take a look at the conditions. you can see the people looking at the ocean and not going in.

that's how the stone harbor beach patrol wants it right now. all water activities are canceled. nobody is allowed in the water not even knee-deep because of the rip currents. in stone harbor, yesterday officials did ask visitors to leave because they were concerned about flooding. you heard david and chris talking about even if the storm changes a little bit there could be the threat of moderate flooding and that could be an issue for people leaving beach towns like stone harbor and after lone and sea isle. the townsend inlet bridge between avalon and sea isle has been shut down because of the waves going over the bridge. if there is moderate flooding that means typical areas will flood plus other areas, that could be a problem for people leaving the island especially on labor day weekend when you have

so plane people visiting. we talked to businesses, a lot of them doing well, because a lot of people decided they were staying put. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news" back to you. >> as we've been telling you it's down right dangerous to venture out in the into the ocean with hermine off the coast. the waves are getting stronger and bigger. a paddle boarder did not heed the warnings and he was knocked do the water. heed the red flag warnings and stay out of the water. >> trish hartman is live in brigantine. >> folks there have been asked to voluntary evacuation, have they been paying attention to the orders? >> reporter: some folks haven't and those are the folks seen flooding in the areas before in previous storms, a lot of people have made their way on to the beach setting up beach chairs and enjoying the sunshine.

balls so many people have made their way on to the beach, the lifeguards are out and keeping an eye on things and keeping folks out of the water. they are letting people on to the sand, they don't want people in the water for safety reasons, the too dangerous. officials want to remind everyone the threat of flooding is very real especially during high tide tonight and tomorrow. people who chose to stay in brigantine, they need venturing out and taking pictures and walking their dogs and enjoying the morning before the storm hits. crews have been working to push the sand up the beach to keep the ocean from flooding into the streets during high tide. voluntary evacuations are in effect for those who experienced flooding in the bay area. many people we talked to say they are glad they stayed, they don't think it will be that bad,
