storm system is about 325 miles off the coast. it's just sitting there and kind of spinning, maximum sustained winds 70 miles per hour so it is near hurricane strength but it's so far away we're really just seeing the outer cloud bands of that system even the showers well off the coast and the wind speeds right now little bit on the breezy side in atlantic city, 16 miles per hour but with that storm so far out to sea it's pretty minimal. philadelphia 84, allentown 87, little bit cooler in cape may, 78. -- 74. a lot of kids starting the school year. it will be on the warm side a mix of sun and clouds at 8 o'clock 71, hitting a high of 88 degrees by 5 o'clock and temperatures will be warming as we head through the week.

guards are letting surfers in the ocean but they're asking swimmers to just go in ankle deep because of these rough conditions. now, people are out here anyway making the most of what's left of their summer vacation. >> it was fine. it wasn't bad. it was -- it was warm. it was perfect for skin boarding. >> reporter: but ricky and his sister eva soon had to cut their skin boarding session short here in north wildwood when the guards told them the water is just too rough. the kids say it's been a weekend full of finding alternatives to the beach. >> we spent one day in the shore house. we went to the movies and just hang out. >> reporter: up the beach the waves washed away a few feet of sand but visitors still came out even in long paths and sweatshirts. in ventnor people gladly stuck it out keeping an eye on the ever changing forecast. >> rode our bikes, looked at some new houses. what else did we do? >> went to the beach. >> went to the beach, had

dinner with friends. >> people absolutely left. the bagel shop in margate had nobody in there except for us. it's very quiet. you can tell today monday is very quiet. >> reporter: many businesses we checked in with said they took a big hit this weekend. the owner of annette's restaurant says she was upset about the calls for voluntary evacuations. >> we know how to deal with the storms down here. cheryl said she was pleasantly surprised by the turnout and brought in about 90 percent of what she sees in a normal weekend. >> honestly we had a great weekend. we were business z people were a little hesitant. i think some people left. i think a lot of people stayed. >> reporter: now, i checked in with one of the beach front motels in north wildwood. they said they had a number of early checkouts on saturday sunday and that did hurt quite a bit for the week. one of the nearby restaurants said this weekend was one of the worst weekends of the seasonally we'll hear from

>> i've got some slow for you for sure. we'll check out the slow in just a second brian and alicia. first though a live look in center city. vine street expressway underneath. that's any other too slow this afternoon but up top the cleanup from the weekend continues from the made in america concert. still a lot of restrictions along the ben franklin parkway. you can see traffic there headed northbound in that one lane on 20th street. traffic also moving on the local vine but lanes of the parkway remain blocked for the cleanup as do the adjacent kelly and mlk drives. some of that cleanup activity is still ongoing. therefore you still have street closures in this area. the ramp from the westbound vine to the parkway has reopened so you can cross over the parkway in that area. here's the slow going. it's on the schuylkill what the a shock. eastbound side from 202 through this point at conshohocken. little fender-bender was occupying the left lane for awhile. now it's off to the side and you can see the flatbed tow truck there on the scene getting ready to do its work here by 476. if you're coming down 476 away from the poconos, we're

negotiation and we haven't yet closed the gaps in a way where we think it would actually work. >> now if they do close those gaps, the unlikely alliance would mean close military coordination between the united states and russia against common enemies like isis operating in syria. >> this labor day is bringing good news for drivers across america. gas prices are at their lowest we feel since 2004. aaa says the national average for a gallon of regular is $2.21. that is 20 cents cheaper than this time last year. pennsylvania's average is 12 cents above the national average but delaware center city nine cents lower and new jersey's is actually below two dollars. americans are expected to save an extra $320 per household this year on gas. the maker of gatorade says it's now producing an organic version of the popular sports drink. pepsi says the new products will be available in three

flavors in select cities starting this fall. the new drinks will only contain seven ingredients all of which will be organic. >> interesting. all right. it is time now for a check of the accuweather forecast on a day that really turned out rather unexpectedly to be pretty nice. >> yeah. over to meteorologist cecily tynan checking out the rest of our evening and looking forward to some more heat moving in. >> yes, yes. enjoy today because this comfortable air mass is not going to be sticking are round much longer. we are live on sky6 as our temple university camera taking a look at william penn city hall philadelphia skyline and seeing filtered sunshine. it's been one of those days we were seeing a mixture of clouds and sun, et cetera gets kind of dark and cloudy and then the sun is out five minutes later. those are the outer cloud bands of hermine off coast. right now the temperature in philadelphia very comfortable 84 degrees. that dewpoint 56 degrees so that's a dry air mass. winds are pretty light out of the north at 3 miles per hour. pressure is falling rapidly and the ocean temperature is

73 degrees. so, taking a look across the region allentown the warm spot right now of 87 degrees, reading and lancaster 86, millville 81, wilmington 83. beach haven currently 78 and trenton right now in the 80's. satellite6 along with action radar showing that hermine does have an influence in our weather. its about 325 miles off shore so the rain is well off shore but you're seeing that we are getting the outer cloud bands moving in. they kind of dissipate as they move to the west. that's why we have the warmer temperatures in the western suburbs right now and tonight should be a pretty comfortable night. partly cloudy skies, again low humidity, overnight low 69 in philadelphia, allentown 60, cape may 68 and wilmington 65 degrees. so, your school day forecast, my children are heading back to school tomorrow and it's going to be a warm one. but not oppressively hot and humid. humidity will be in check, mixture of sun and clouds as they get on that school bus at 7 o'clock in the morning and moms are crying, 70 degrees by

1 o'clock, 82 and then by 4 o'clock up to 87 degrees. dewpoints tell the story, though. tomorrow dewpoints not bad, about 60 degrees so still pretty comfortable but then they gradually rise thursday and friday dewpoints in the upper 60's. at the same time temperatures will be in the mid 90's so future tracker showing the heater index by thursday evening close to 100 degrees so that oppressive heat and humidity is making a comeback. association the four day at 4:00 showing tomorrow pretty nice day again, warm breeze, mixture of clouds and sunshine, 88 degrees the high and then wednesday we bump into the 90's. 91 degrees. thursday near record warmth, 95 degrees and friday likely a new record high of 95. looks like it could get even hotter on saturday. i'll have details on that and let you know when the heat wave breaks coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast. so, labor day marks the unofficial end to summer but the summer heat is sticking around. don't get rid of those summer clothes quite yet.

>> ♪ >> a bucks county man died today after he couldn't escape from his burning home. an investigator say smoking was likely to blame. the fire started around 6:30 a.m. on astor avenue in feederville. investigators say the man was a hoarder. was smoking inside. the man died a few hours after being rushed to the hospital. investigators say he was 56 years old but they have not released his name. they're still working to find out just how that fire started. >> a woman is dead a man is in the hospital after an early morning shooting in north philadelphia. it happened just after 12:30 this morning on the 2200 block of north chadwick street. police say they showed up to find a woman shot in the back and a man shot in the head. the woman died at the hospital. police say she was 26 years old but have not yet told us her name. the man is 25. he is in the hospital in very

critical condition. police have not yet said who shot them or given any indication of a motive. a man was found dead lined a dunkin' donuts. police are trying figure out who he was and how he died. they found him with a chest wound. they're calling this a murder even though they're not sure if he was shot or stabbed. so far they have not made any arrests here. >> we just got an update on how an atlantic city police officer is doing after he was shot outside of a casino. investigators say that josh lee biddle is in critical but stable condition. officer biddle was shot after he intervened in a robbery outside of caesar's casino early saturday morning. during the shooting one of the suspects was shot and killed. police have arrested two other men. biddle has been with the police department for nine years. search is on for a man who impersonator a police officer

and robbed two he is courts at gun point. it happened at a motel in king of prussia. covering to the victim the imposter threatened them with a gun while telling them it was part of a sting operation. but police in upper merion say there was no such operation. the suspect was able to get away with cash and their cell phones. >> workers in philadelphia have spent this labor day cleaning up the ben franklin parkway. the action cam was there as they cleared mounds of trash left over from the big made in america festival this weekend. they've also started taking down the stage and other equipment. this was the fifth straight year for that two-day festival which of course is organized by jay-z. the parkway will stay closed until tomorrow i think, what, coldplay was the headliner last night. >> yes and rihanna this weekends. >> pretty great concert by all accounts. >> and great weather. >> absolutely. >> next on "action news," we are getting new details about a woman who was repeatedly run over and left for dead. witnesses reveal what they saw next. >> and later he was trying to raise money but instead he was

"action news" reporter jeanette reyes explains what happened next. >> reporter: it was 8:30 last night. many of the residents along west louden and franklin streets were out for a block party. this woman who asked not to have her name released says she was home when she heard what sounded like a crash.

i was in my house just got finished eating and all of a sudden i heard this loud boom. >> reporter: she peered out her window and witnessed the crime taking place in dimly

hit lot across the street. >> i thought it was a car accident. it wasn't until the driver bonged his car and i saw the lady laying in the lot and he was just -- kept running -- running the car over her. >> reporter: but the suspect wasn't done with his gravely injured victim. a woman in her 30's. >> after he got done that, he went into his truck and got a shovel and just started hitting her over the head with it. she was screaming -- she was waving her hands like no, no, no and he kept -- he just going -- running her over. >> reporter: philadelphia police confirm the they responded to reports of a woman screaming last night. they arrived on scene to find that woman still pinned under the white 2012 nissan maxima. the suspect witnesses say was relaxed almost unbotherred. >> he was just like nonchalant walking around acting like really nothing happened basically, like he -- it looked like to me like he -- he had the right to do there. >> reporter: the woman was rushed to einstein medical center where she was pronounced dead around 9:5:00 p.m. this witness says she overheard the suspect initially tell police it was all just an accident. >> there was no accident. you intentionally did that. >> reporter: philadelphia police agree. she says she's relieved the suspect is in custody but struggles to push the horrific images out of her mind. >> i got that image in my head and that will stay in my head. >> reporter: witnesses tell me the two were in relationship. however, police have not yet confirmed that connection. this is very much an active investigation. no charges have been filed yet though. reporting in logan, jeanette reyes channel6 "action news". >> a deer triggered a deadly crash this morning in the

lehigh valley. pennsylvania state police say a motorcyclist hit the deer along northbound route 33 in bush kill township northampton county. that collision caused a chain reaction crash with a seconds motorcycle. both motorcycle riders died at the scene. they are both 25 years old and both from the poconos. >> a shooting in delaware county left a person injured inside a home late last night. police responded to the unit block of neeld street in aston where they found the victim with a single gunshot wound. that person was rushed to a nearby hospital. no word on their condition or just what led up to that shooting. hope that surveillance cameras could help police solve a deadly stabbing in west philadelphia. investigators set up crime scene tape in front of el toro's lounge. they say a man in his 30's was stabbed several times around 1 o'clock this morning. you are asked to contact police if you know anything about this crime. >> scary moments for a driver

in fairmount park who thought that he was being pulled over. instead, he was robbed by a man posing as a police officer. investigators say it happened around 8:30 last night at concourse drive and belmont avenue. according to the victim the imposter hit him in the back of the head with a gun and then took off in a black ford explorer with flashing lights. police are still searching for that suspect. >> red flag warnings are still in place up and down our coast as the remnants of hermine children in the atlantic. lifeguards in rehoboth beach delaware are keeping people out of the rough ocean but that's not stopping them from enjoying this labor day. families still set up chairs and blankets on the sand taking advantage of the day off. action cam caught up with visitors at valley forge national park. the trails were packed with people who were out there enjoying what really was a nice afternoon. and cecily we talk about these red flag warnings. it's any other because of what we see outer there, which is a

nice day but what we don't see churning well off the coast. >> it's because of the ocean. hermine is off the coast of atlantic city so there's still rough surf and large swells. surfers love it but it's dangerous. but elsewhere it's looking gorgeous. let's go live on sky6 right now taking a look at philadelphia international airport. filtered sunshine and pretty comfortable conditions, 84 degrees with that dewpoint of 56 degrees. that's a dry air mass. ocean city, this is a live snapshot and you can see a lot of folks on the boardwalk. it's 76 degrees there. the heat index matches the air temperature of 76 and this is a live shot from the princeton plasma physics labs seeing a mix of clouds and sunshine with a temperature of 85 degrees, so very comfortable conditions for this labor day. but as we head through the week, the heat and the humidity will be increasing progressively, so i'll talk about just how hot it will feel and when some relief is on the way coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast.

>> 26 people are countering their blessings today. that's because good samaritans came to their rescue in southern california all because they happened to be in the right place at the right time. the fishing boat they were on crashed into the rocks and started taking on water near san diego. nearby boaters heard their distress call early saturday morning and they arrived before the coast guard did. >> god gave -- guy gave us a hug

and started crying. >> the fact that they were relatively close and they were on scene very quickly made all the difference in the world. >> now the good samaritans are bushing off suggestions that they are heroes. they say they are certain someone else would have done the same for them. a 12-year-old boy scout in florida learned a hard lesson this weekend when he became the victim of a crime. reilly couture was outside of a wal-mart selling snacks for his troupe when a man who wanted trail mix handed him a $100 bill. reilly gave the man change but turns out the customer was ripping the boy off because that $100 bill was a fake.

making the curve there onto the outer drive of the parkway. it does appear to now be reopened so slowly but surely they are getting that ben franklin parkway reopened but still cleaning up in some spots along it. in concorde township cleanup has ended with that crash northbound side of baltimore pike by the terrain garden cafe at evergreen drive. everything is reopened there. now there's a wreck to avoid in pottstown along king street at pots drive. i think i would stay down on high street to get away from that. coming back from the poconos the parade of people are making the march toward the lehigh valley. we are seeing congestion on southbound 476, the northeast extension coming away from 80 on down to the lehigh tunnel where we're not really seeing congestion this afternoon is coming back from the beach, the shore here on the northbound side of the garden state parkway where the great egg tolls sit on the southbound side. northbound traffic this afternoon is moving great but we'll check it again brian and

morning, partly sunny skies, at 6 o'clock 64, by 8 o'clock 66 and then temperatures will be gradually warming up also a we head through the week. tomorrow warmer than today with a high of 88 degrees, mixture of sun and clouds with high pressure to our southwest and hermine out to sea it will be a windy day with winds out of the northwest at about 10 to 20 miles per hour. and then heading into wednesday, wednesday is when it starts to get more humid. it gets hotter with a high of 91 degrees, likely the start of heat wave number seven and that cold front will essentially fizzle out. the temperatures actually will be climbing as we head through the week and guilty inning of the weekend. if you are down the shore tomorrow do be careful once again. the rip current risk is very high tomorrow, 73 degrees so a good idea to stay out of that ocean. on the beaches, though, a fairly nice day. however, there will be a land breeze, not a sea breeze so the green heads will be biting. mixture of clouds and sunshine.
