temperatures. it is tuesday night, and the big story on action news tonight is a remind their labor day may have come and gone, but we are still in the throes of summer. let's go live to meteorologist cecilytynan. >> temperatures on the rise. sunday's high, 82, yesterday, 86. today, up to 88 degrees. the normal high for this time of the year is 81. although we're in the upper 80s today, see to the west and the south there are a slew of 90 degree temperatures. and that is all heading our way tomorrow. and as we head throughout week. part of why the 90s have been held at bay, hermine, satellite 6 along with action radar showing the storm meandering 150 miles off the coast. bringing some light showers generally across south jersey and along the coast. but what that system will do, continue to weaken and drift up

to the north and the northeast as we head through the day tomorrow. so that will open the door for temperatures in the 90s. and yet it has been an extremely hot summer already. we've already had 41 days in the 90s. the normal for an entire year, 27. tomorrow, likely starting heat wave number seven this week. so as we head through the week it's going to feel like july and september. unfortunately we desperately need the rain. not much rain in the seven day forecast. and looks like we will be looking at near-record heat. more details on the specifics, how hot temperatures will climb and how hot it will feel in the full accuweather forecast. jim. >> thank you. a motorcyclist was killed late tonight in drexel hill. chopper 6 was over the crash site on township road and state road. investigators have not determine what had caused this. this is the second deadly accident in a roughly one mile stretch of township line road.

it appears that bill cosby's trial has a timetable. he was back in court today. dan has the details. >> reporter: with bill cosby's criminal trial date set for june 5th, his lawyers say he is the victim of racial bias and prejudice as it played out in the court of public opinion. >> love you! >> thank you. >> reporter: comedian and actor bill cosby touched an aid's arm at the courthouse. looking better than before, he seemed more engaged with the goings on. the lawyer told the judge he is blind. the criminal case against the 79-year-old entertainer involves a single encounter with a temple employee. but they tried to convince the judge to let them put on testimony from 13 other women making similar accusations. >> without a motion on prior bad acts, which indicated a number

of women that we allege also have been victims. and that's part of our motion. >> reporter: but defense lawyers argue that among those are women trying to cash in. >> we have seen a barrage of new accusers claiming me too. >> reporter: the defense is seeking to have the trial moved out of town. contending the jury pool has been poisoned by the media. >> the media has presumed him guilty, not incident. the media has championed the causes of his accusers with little thought to investigation. with little thought to challenging or exposing the motivations. >> reporter: but prosecutors contend otherwise. >> i believe we can get a fair jury and we can go through that and deal with that. >> reporter: a judge will have to deal with these and other pre-trial motions before the trial is set to begin next june. i'm dan, channel 6 action news. bruce caster will be out of his job at pennsylvania's attorney general's office come friday. he was second in command as solicitor general. a position created for him by

former attorney general kathleen kane. he took over the top spot for a few days after she resigned following her perjury conviction. but bruce beamer was quickly appointed as the new attorney general. a south jersey political candidate accused of publicly saying that he hopes that a reporter gets raped quit the race today. the republican admitted this handwritten note today saying he will no longer seek a seat on the township committee. he offered no apology. the gop condemned the post against daily beast reporter olivia newsy. that had profanity and vulgar slurs against women. say, quote, for a candidate to use such despicable language against a reporter, let alone a female, is not within our party. nearly two weeks after 8-year-old gabby carter was caught in a deadly cross fire,

her mother is making an emotional plea. imploring anybody with information to please come forward to justice can be done. she described the moment she saw her daughter just after her daughter was shot on august 24th. >> i just leaned over her and was whispering in her here. mommy's here, stay with me. breathe, breathe. just like -- because i didn't know what else to do. i was panicking. i was so scared. >> gabby was shot in the back of the head. the bullet went through her brain. she was pronounced dead two days later. >> gabby liked -- when we went in there, it was like, oh, my god. they had justin beiber, baby, song going. and that was her favorite song. and i was like, i got to get out of this store. >> these grieving parents are hoping that a $75,000 reward will persuade anyone with information to finally come forward. a sea of red and white

balloons filled a city street in north philadelphia tonight for a young woman killed in a double shooting. 28-year-old amber michael and her boyfriend were shot early monday morning in the 2200 block of north chadwick street. michael died. her boyfriend remains in critical condition. the vigil was held to honor her life. police are still looking for the shooter. the burrow of the county isic tag up a pivotal question. whether or not to disband the police department. christie has been at the highly charged council meeting tonight. what's the verdict? >> reporter: well, jim, they still haven't voted because they are still in public comment. this tiny town showed up to have their voices heard. and many packing inside the small council meeting room. some couldn't get in and are listening through the open windows. it's whether to keep the police

department. they said affordability and better resources lie with middletown pd. a lot of residents aren't sold. and it's absolutely getting heated inside. >> who are you going to call? you know? middletown is great, they're wonderful. >> they're trying to merge the police department with middletown. and none of us have any of the facts. we would like to see what's going on. hear both sides of the story. >> it's our money. this is for everybody in this room. >> the whole town's pissed off. i mean, everybody's angry. we all want this police force to stay. >> i don't care what you say. >> yeah! >> we are almost at the cap of how much we can tax our residents. so, you know, it's very expensive to fund a police service. so we don't know how much longer we can keep up with that. >> it changes the atmosphere of the policing. it's personal policing that we have with the community.

they have a larger force. but at the time they all aren't on at the same time. >> as a retired police officer do you feel like there's a gap in service here. absolutely. we pay for 24-hour service. getting what we pay for in our tax dollars. >> reporter: now, the police department has a full-time chief with ten officers at a cost of $500,000, or 60% of the budget. but officials say having middletown take over would only cost residents $300,000 and come with more resources. police and residents say they're going to lose a lot more, including the personal relationship they have with officer who is protect their communities. what you are looking at are live pictures outside of this council meeting, people are listening put windows. the council is going to be voting, but unclear if that will happen. they are still in public comment. if it passes it will go into effect in january.

and means a lot of the people that work here will have to reapply with the middletown pd. reporting live, channel 6 action news. >> thank you. a sea of blue packed the courtroom today for the first appearance of two defendants charged in the shooting of an atlantic city police officer. 29-year-old martel and cross will be held on $700,000 bail each. the two men and a third suspect were in the middle of an armed robbery when the officer tried to stop them. thatlet led to the shoot out. the third man was killed in the exchange of gunfire. the officer is in critical condition. today a go fund me account for his family surpassed the goal of $50,000. meanwhile, the police officer shot seven times in late june will return to duty this week. following numerous surgeries and months of reoccupation the department announced today that

officer christopher doorman has been cleared cleared and his fit will be friday night. philadelphia police charged 50-year-old joel horton with the murder of a woman in logan. investigators say he ran over 52-year-old adrian lindsey several times with a car and beat her with a shovel. it happened a the 700 block of south lowden street. police investigators looking for a menorah thief. they released this surveillance video today of a suspect. it shows him stealing the religious candle from the synagogue on the 100 block of tomlinson road. happened august 20th at 3:00 in the morning. it is after labor day. and the vote 2016 is now in the home stretch. we are exactly nine weeks away from election day. republican nominee donald trump will be returning to
