way through our area so this heat is going nowhere. in fact, the heat advisory has now been extended. it was supposed to expire at 6 p.m. tonight. expires 6 p.m. tomorrow night when the heat index is going to go above 100. and you just showed you millville felt like 105, not in the heat advisory, but i just want to tell you, if you're in the along the shore, everywhere expect it to be very dangerous and very uncomfortable for another day tomorrow. we'll let you know when this heat wave is going to break coming up in that full accuweather forecast. brian? >> all right, adam. thank you. these steamy temperatures are forcing some schools in the area to change their schedules already. students in trenton got out early today for the second day in a row. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic live in trenton this afternoon with reaction from parents and students. and, nora, i'm going to go out on a limb and say students were not too upset about this. >> reporter: no, most of the kids i spoke with, prin. it is not an ideal situation but a number of schools in trenton
4:02 pm
are not fully air-conditioned. and you just heard adam, with the temperature feeling over 100 degrees outside, it was decided it's just not smart to have kids sitting in potentially hot classrooms during the midday heat. >> it's going to be a severe heatwave, and most of the school doesn't have air-conditioning. >> reporter: it was early dismissal again today for trenton schools. the district has students heading home at lunchtime because not all of the schools are air-conditioned and sitting in class might be hard to take. >> it was hot, but it wasn't that hot. >> reporter: this is a new student at the ninth-glade academy located at the former monument school on pennington avenue. >> there was barely any air-conditioning. and i had gym just now so -- >> reporter: so he was glad to get out early. his grandmother went to kindergarten in the old part of the building, and she used to work here. >> the other part of it is air-conditioned was built in '72 and that's why it's air-conditioned. but the other part, it's not. >> reporter: early dismissals are causing an inconvenience for working parents, but many think
4:03 pm
it's the right move. >> the city cares about the kids. they don't want them to get sick. so it's good. >> reporter: students at the international academy of trenton charter school were dismissed early, even though their building has air-conditioning. it's easier to coordinate transportation for students if all schools, public and charter, dismiss about the same time. >> it's okay, but, like, i was just going to sit home and play. >> reporter: you'd rather be in school maybe? >> yes. >> reporter: not all parents support the early dismissal. >> this is ridiculous. it's the first week of school, and they already coming home. i feel like i just dropped her off. >> reporter: back live now, you're looking at an air conditioner on the second floor of grant school, grant elementary on clinton avenue. we see them in many of the windows, but not all, and that's why part of the reason why schools around here are having
4:04 pm
difficulty and in the same position. early dismissals are planned again for friday. so that's three days this week not an ideal start to this school year. when we come back at 5:00, we're going to talk more about the schools and also some people -- with some people about how they're putting up with this awful heat. live in trenton, nora muchanic, "channel 6 action news." brian? >> all right, nora. thank you and of course with more heat in the forecast tomorrow, philadelphia schools aren't taking any chances either. both philadelphia public have announced they will close at noon tomorrow. public schools also canceled all afternoon and evening sports. schools in the suburbs will be open for the fum day tomorrow. of course, this means the heat is on. and 6abc.com/weather is your go-to resource. rely on accuweather and stormtracker 6 live for constant updates and let us know what's happening where you live by connecting with our meteorologists on facebook and on twitter. two teenagers are accused of stealing from more than 30 cars and some homes in bucks county.

police say 18-year-old james woodman and a 17-year-old accomplice were arrested in bensalem when a woman saw him breaking into her house early this morning. jeanette reyes has an exclusive interview with that victim, plus a look at all of the stolen property police have recovered. jeanette's report will be coming up at 4:30. well, take a look at this video. police say the suspect that you see here is using a stolen credit card at a local wawa. that stolen card and several others were snatched from a woman while she was at church on the 300 block of west dawson street back in july. the victim only learned of the theft and the fraud when she got a call from her bank. if you recognize the suspects, give philadelphia police a call. police are looking for a woman from bensalem who has been missing all week now. no one has seen 21-year-old lindsay piccone since sunday. police found her car at tyler state park. they were back at the park looking for clues.
4:06 pm
so far they have not told us if they found anything connected to her disappearance. bensalem police want anyone with information to please call them. well, take a look at this mess on i-95 this morning, a tractor-trailer crash led to a fire in delaware that shut down traffic. that truck was carrying pennies and a lot of them to the u.s. mint. and they ended up all over the highway and kept that road closed for hours. "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is live in new castle with more on what has been an all-day effort to clean up this very unique and shiny copper mess. >> reporter: i'm wearing a safety vest because we're on an interstate in construction zone and it's required by law just for our viewers to know that. if you look behind me, you see all lanes of i-95 northbound are now back open to traffic here at the i-295 interchange. that happened about an hour ago
4:07 pm
now. this was an all-day effort to clean up 40,000 pounds of blank pennies plus gasoline and oil spilled when a tractor-trailer crashed. as the effort to clean up all those pennies went on throughout the day, motorists were still telling horror stories about this morning's commute and how they at least tried to make their way around the mess to get to work. >> it takes about 12 to 15 minutes every morning. this morning, it took me 2 1/2 hours. >> i was coming across the traffic kept getting heavier and mef heavier. i came to a stand stim. as i was approaching, i noticed nothing was going anywhere. >> reporter: all because of this. a tractor-trailer en route to the u.s. mint flip over and caught on fire spilling a full trailer of unstamped pennies across the northbound linelanes of i-95 right at the i-295 split. it happened around 2:00 a.m. when the driver lost control and hit the concrete barrier. crews were called in to clean up the 40,000 pounds of pennies plus gasoline and oil. it turned out not to be an easy
4:08 pm
task. meantime, traffic came to a standstill on the highway and surrounding streets became clogged with cars. all that leading to lots of frustration for so many motorists. >> it's crazy. you know, you're trying to get to work and the next thing you know, you're stuck behind traffic. >> reporter: how frustrated are you? >> oh, very, but nothing you can do about it. we're stuck here. >> reporter: and they're no longer stuck at this point. again, all lanes of northbound i-95 back open to traffic. cars and trucks moving right along the surrounding streets no longer clogged as well. as for the driver of the tractor-trailer, he suffered only minor injuries and was assessed right here at the scene. live in new castle, delaware, i'm sarah bloomquist, "channel 6 action news." >> all right, thank you, sarah. another tractor-trailer crash also caused traffic trouble today, but this time it was in bucks county. chopper 6 was over this wreck in quakertown.
4:09 pm
state police say a tractor-trailer was heading off the northeast extension onto 663 but flipped onto its side on the exit ramp. the trailer was filled with food, which made it difficult for crews to get it upright again. fortunately, though, no one was seriously hurt. well, needless to say all of this has made for a rather eventful day in the "action news" traffic center. >> all right. let's go live to matt pellman in the "action news" traffic center keeping an eye on everything for us. hi, matt. >> yeah, this little guy, so tiny and shiny, caused such huge headaches this morning, really across delaware and all morning long, i put in my 2 cents as to how you could possibly get around the mess. but i'll tell you, at some point, all the alternate routes were jammed, and we had single-digit speeds on all these speedometer readings across new castle county. good news is this afternoon, 65 miles per hour on 95. everything's much better. eve the secondary routes you're just dealing with traffic lights overall. that other overturned truck is
4:10 pm
giving us issues. in bucks county, the ramp from the northeast extension, 476 southbound to quakertown, route 663, is still partially blocked as they clean up that overturned truck. we had a crash, actually just in the process of clearing out here along columbus boulevard, delaware avenue, southbound side right underneath the ben carson bridge. that's why it's -- ben franklin bridge. no big delays. all activity mostly off to the side now. but there are two accidents involving pedestrians to watch out for this injury. one's in ben sale 'em along humeville road. the other in buena vista township. your route 54. let's grab the ipad, the commuter report on this thursday, almost friday afternoon. reports of a crash coming in along the schuylkill westbound along conshohocken. lanes are open but speeds mostly in the teens there, really in both directions. as you round the conshohocken curve. we'll check it again, brian and sharrie, coming up in the next half-hour. >> okay, matt. thank you. and still ahead, a murder-suicide inside of a high school, and police say it

4:19 pm
oppressive and then it also makes it feel extremely uncomfortable out. and just to the south and west of reading, we're tracking one downpour near leola, along route there there, towards paradise, just to the east of lancaster. the only downpour in our area. and you would think, okay, i would love a downpour right about now to kind of cool things off. it's not the -- if not the case, that moisture puts more moisture into the ground and more humidity and makes it feel more uncomfortable. in fact, right now it feels like 102 in wilmington. one degree higher than that in dover. millville, 105. the atlantic city airport, just ten miles from the shore, it feels over 100, while right along the shore, upper 80s to near 90. even the lehigh valley, 101. it has been a very dry summer around here. i don't even have to repeat that to you. you know. you see the gardens, the grass, the trees, all in stress right now for the past three weeks. in philadelphia we've seen less than a half an inch of rain.
4:20 pm
the last time that we had a good soaker in the city of philadelphia with an inch or more during one storm was back on july 25th. again, this drought, so to speak, is kind of short term. when you take a look at the year as an average, most of the area in the northwestern suburbs, all of delaware, and southern new jersey, it is not abnormally dry, because we're actually kind of near normal for the year. but in philadelphia, trenton, beach haven to atlantic city, is moderately dry right now. you have to go into southern new england where they have an extreme drought right now in and around the boston area. satellite and radar, there's some rain to the north. that is a cold front that's going to slowly sink in from the north here, throw a lot of clouds our way, and could give parts of our area some scattered storms here tomorrow. but for tonight, it's warm. it's muggy. again, a spotty downpour or thunderstorm with the heat and humidity. 73 in reading, 78 in philadelphia, 74, millville. mid to upper 70s along the shore. so very sultry overnight.
4:21 pm
and tomorrow, as we get into late tonight, you see the high clouds and a couple of downpours near the poconos. that's the front that slowly progleses in. but as you can see, we start with sunshine tomorrow morning. high clouds come in kind a dirty look to the sky tomorrow afternoon. and then by 5:30 or so, we'll see some of those downpours and thunderstorms along that front up in the lehigh valley while the majority of us here on friday will just stay hot, dry and hazy. and in fact, there's the heat index tomorrow afternoon going back up to near 100. the four-day 4 forecast will show this heat wave will continue through saturday. tomorrow record-tying 94 with the scattered storm to the north. late in the day and then it's hot, steamy, oppressive on saturday, 96 feeling over 100 with an overnight thunderstorm saturday into early sunday morning with a stronger front, dropping the humidity. feels better sunday afternoon at 88. and that crystal-clear sky, breathtaking here on monday, but then the 90s return next week.
