gray? >> reporter: rick and monica, we can tell you this is all under investigation right now. i can also tell you the victim in this case was able to identify that officer in a photo lineup. and while investigators try to piece all this together, camden county leaders are asking the public not to rush to judgment. pennsylvania state police are investigating an alleged incident of road rage along this stretch of 95 at the vine street expressway that happened august 1st. investigators say a 25-year-old woman accused 37-year-old brian mcdonald of pointing a gun at her. what makes the allegations more shocking is that mcdonald is a camden county sheriff's officer. no one was at his home when we went to get his side of the story. dan is a spokesman for cam death county. >> one of the sheriff's department officers has been charged with terroristic threats. we are investigating the matter. the officer has been suspended. >> reporter: according to state police, the victim was cut off by mcdonald for mo apparent

reason. eventually, they both were driving side by side and that's when she claimed the off-duty officer pointed a gun at her. in response, investigators say the woman showed her cell phone and that's when mcdonald exited the highway. she was able to get his license plate number and alerted state police. >> anytime i think you have a firearm involved, it just -- in any allegation, it's a serious issue. so we're going to take a look at it. we're taking it very seriously. >> reporter: a warrant was issued, and mcdonald turned himself in just yesterday. he now faces charges of terroristic threats and possession of an instrument of crime. >> all police officers are held to a higher standard. and anyone in law enforcement for that matter, whether it be a corrections officer, police officer or sheriff's deputy. no, this is not a common thing, and ultimately, like i said, we want to make sure that we let this -- this whole process play out and make an informed decision and be thoughtful about this before we jump to any conclusions. >> reporter: back out live. we are learning a bit more about the police officer accused in

this incident. we know he's been on the force since 2012. i'm told he has a clean record. he does have an attorney. court date has been scheduled for october. live, "channel 6 action news." rick? >> thanks, gray. turning to our weather now, and it is another hot and humid day out there with the heat index making it feel like it's more than 100 degrees. and it's not letting up anytime soon. for that reason, all philadelphia public schools and all archdiocesan high schools and catholic elementary schools will dismiss students at noon tomorrow, friday. administrative offices will remain open. the district is also canceling all afternoon and evening athletic activities tomorrow and saturday. decisions about parochial schooling outside of philadelphia will be left up to each school tomorrow. all right. heading outside now to meteorologist adam joseph to find out just how hot it's going to get. and schools taking precautions, adam, huh? >> for sure. when you step out here, you can see, it feels like a steam bath out here. you don't have to do very much

to instantly sweat. and the body can overheat very quickly. in fact, we have the september scorcher. so far 95 degrees in the city of philadelphia with a heat index at 103. that's where it peaked just an hour ago. this is the 43rd time we've seen 90 degrees or more in the city of philadelphia. and today, so far, one degree shy of the record. we're sitting at 92 right now in the city. 93 in allentown. 94, trenton, reading, lancaster, and a sea breeze at the shore feeling a whole lot let better there in low 80s. but you factor in that tropical humidity and it feels at or over 100 degrees and most locations just shy of it for wilmington, reading as well as the lehigh valley at 98. there's a front far to the north with some downpours and thunderstorms. the front is slowly pushing this from the north to the southeast, but it's going to kind of park itself just north of the poconos tomorrow, which means we continue to be kind of stuck in

know what's happening where you are by connecting with our meteorologists on facebook and twitter. well, all lanes have been reopened on i-95 in new castle county about 13 hours after a tractor-trailer carrying pennies overturned this morning. >> reporter: the truck hit a barrier just before 2:00 and caught on fire. it was carrying blank pennies to the u.s. mint and as a result, 40,000 pounds of the pennies ended up all the over the roadway. the driver of the tractor-trailer suffered only minor injuries. but it took all day to clean up the mess. police asking for the public's health tonight to find a woman who went missing earlier this week. 21-year-old lindsay piccone has been missing since sunday. police found her car but despite a search from the ground and the air, there's still no sign of her. if you have any information police want to hear from you. in west texas, a 14-year-old young woman student shot and wounded another female student in her high school this morning before taking her own life.

it happened about 9:00 a.m. in the small town of alpine, texas, 200 miles southeast of el paso. officials still don't know why the girl did it. investigatorssay the girl who died moved to that area just six months ago. the injured student was able to run outside and get help. she is expected to be okay. immaculata university is letting itt tech students know they can transfer to their school and continue their education. the university is offering itt students a deal to transfer that includes no application fee. a student can take any one three-credit course offered this october at a discounted rate. they can also earn credit for courses taken at itt. every itt campus across the nation was forced to close this week after the u.s. department of education banned it from enrolling new students who use federal financial aid. time right now for a check of our "action news" traffic report. >> matt pellman with the latest on the commute home tonight. matt? >> hi, guys.

the camden county crawl is on as we try and head home on this thursday. slow going on 295 southbound from past 38 through this point at the blackhorse pike on down to 42. we had a minor crash on the shoulder. but luckily, it's cleared out. still, though, about a ten-minute delay on that southbound travel time. in buena vista township, there was an accident involving a pedestrian, and emergency crews remain on the scene near route 54, which, of course, is 12t 12th street. kind of a bear in bear. there's a crash in delaware, northbound side of highway 1 cross the roth bridge taking out the right lane. slower speeds are over there on southbound 301. but overall, things in delaware look a whole lot better than they did this morning when that truck carrying the pennies flipped over. everything on 95 is fine this afternoon. but there is an overturned truck here in bucks county along the ramp from the northeast extension southbound to quakertown. you can squeeze by that. it sounds like the truck is upright and they're just unloading some of the things that were in it. perk see, bad crash along blooming glen drive. so fire police are helping you

"healthcheck" tonight. officials in florida confirm 80 pregnant women have tested positive for zika virus. >> ali has details. >> reporter: the cdc had asked doctors in florida to test all women in the state for the virus regardless of whether they were in an area known to have zika and regardless of whether they had any symptoms. doctors there were closely follow these women. the biggest concern with zika is that it can cause devastating birth defects including microcephaly which affects the brain and nervous system. pregnant women in south florida where zika has been found are urged to wear insect repellant and limit their time outside. meanwhile, there is sobering news in brazil. researchers there say the rate of birth defects involving the nervous system nearly doubled across the country since the zika virus hit. the new jersey state

running down a police sergeant in manayunk while driving drunk appeared in court today. "action news" was there as 21-year-old colin murphy walked out of the criminal justice center in center city. he's charged with driving into 55-year-old sergeant joseph kane during a traffic stop last month. kane suffered a broken collarbone, broken ribs and internal bleeding. >> my client is a good kid. he has a clean record. he has really not been involved in any difficulty with law enforcement whatsoever in the past. >> murphy will be back in court next month. his attorney says the defense needs more time to investigate. "action news" was there as former assistant boy scout leader michael kellon was walked into a chester county courtroom this morning. kellon is charged with having sex with a child starting back in 2011. kellon also worked with ems and local fire companies. the 38-year-old waived his preliminary hearing today and will stand trial on sex-related

charges. police have veasted a 19-year-old man in connection with a home invasion and robbery in northeast philadelphia. officials say the suspect broke into a home here along the 2,000 block of oakmont street late last night. police say the man struggled with homeowner and hit him in the head with a gun. then a shot was fired into the floor. the suspect ran off. but police caught up with him nearby at the same time a woman nearby reported having her purse stolen by a man on the street. she identified the teenager as the suspect later. harper is facing several charges tonight including aggravated assault and robbery. from our new jersey newsroom, four atlantic city firefighters were overcome with heat exhaustion while fighting this blaze on the 4400 block of ventnor avenue this morning. the flame and smoke originated in a building that housed a market on the first floor and an apartment on the second floor. authorities say the firefighters plus another firefighter who suffered a cut to his hand were taken to the hospital for

right? >> yes so once we determine the gender, mom's doing a great job and she's keeping the baby nice and close so we'll know the gender at some point. once we do, we will convene and have a name that our community can vote on. >> they can vote on. awesome. well, i know these guys like the hot weather. so i'm going to talk about the heat. i'm going to move out of the way so i don't get my toes stepped on. today is certainly a hot day. we're two days in now for heat wave number seven. take a look. yesterday made it up to 91 degrees. today, 95 degrees. that's one degree shy of the record high set back in 1939. and the heat index right now is baking here at the zoo. it's really hot. philadelphia feels like 102, down from 103 earlier today. wilmington, 99. trenton feels like 100. allentown, 98. millville feels like 103. and satellite 6 along with action radar showing there is a cold front over central new york. that system, though, will essentially stall over the lehigh valley, and that means the heat and humidity will

continue for two more days. so tonight a spotty thunderstorm possible, mainly north and west. otherwise, it's warm and humid, 66 to 78. and that heat advisory has been extended through tomorrow, 6:00. and i actually think it will be extended again through saturday. and this is why. future tracker showing 5:00 tomorrow afternoon. heat indices again close to 100 and essentially the same, 4:00 saturday afternoon. so the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, the heat continues, 94 degrees on friday. saturday, 96 with some thunderstorms for the cold front behind that system, we do get some relief. sunday, still warm. 88 degrees, but lower humidity through the day. sunshine will be back for the eagles game. and monday feeling good, 84. tuesday, bump it up to 86. we have another day of 9 90 degrees on wednesday but that will not be ooh heat wave. behind that system, temperatures dropping down into the 70s. so it is feeding time here at the zoo. and one mention.
