days later, someone came back to set his corpse on fire. jeanette is live with more. they didn't know what they were dealing with, did that? >> reporter: that's right. firefighters originally responded to a small apartment fire where they found the body of robert lynch. the fire came days after he was brutally murdered. it came with a smell that traveled through the vents and narrow hallways of this apartment complex on the 500 block of east church lane in germantown. what did you think it was? >> bad food. >> reporter: james thought nothing of it. a few days later, on sunday around 9:00 in the morning, a fire erupted. firefighters rushed to put out the flames, then they made a gruesome discovery, the body of

64-year-old robert lynch, burned beyond recognition and in advanced stage of decomposition. >> it was unclear, initially, what caused his death. ultimately, after an examination, they determined he was staped 77 times total. >> reporter: he was stabbed last week, then returned last week to set him on fire. >> i don't think no one should go through that. >> reporter: the apartment is boarded up. the front door is propped up and you can hear the constant humming of powerful fans circulating the air. a disturbing reminder to residents of the horrific crime down the hall. >> the smoke in the air. you can smell the body. i walk by from time to time now that we are allowed to walk that way. >> i want to move. >> reporter: police will only say they have a person of

interest. they won't elaborate further than that. they are encouraging anyone with information to come forward. jeanette reyes, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you, jeanette. police found a man and woman dead in their home in the 200 north block of oxford avenue. they died of gunshot wounds. officers say there is no threat to the neighborhood. politics now. both presidential candidates released medical reports hoping to end rumors about their health. hillary clinton says she is healthy, despite suffering pneumonia last week. donald trump handed his notes to dr. oz on his show today. christie ileto has details. >> for clinton, that meant a detailed report. for trump, it was a physical from last week. is it enough when you are running for president? >> why not share your medical

records? >> i have no problem doing it. >> reporter: the candidate surprised audiences on dr. oz's talk show, this time with his personal medical information. one is a report, the other from a hospital. >> reporter: trump shared the results of a physical exam done last week. >> numbers look good. >> his fat bat ratio and donald trump says i could lose a little weight. >> reporter: if someone didn't provide specifics of the 70-year-old's health, but was enough to have hillary clinton release her records far exceeding what trump released according to her spokesperson. clinton's health came into question when she was seen wobbling at a 9/11 event. a new letter said she has been examined several times and continues to improve.

state troopers were there when the impact happened. they did not fall off the chase. >> officers say they did call off the chase a mile before the crash. investigators are revealing surveillance video to get a better idea of what happened. they found open alcohol containers in a car crash that left a 5-year-old dead. investigators say the driver of a nissan struck a guardrail, ejecting three passengers, a 31-year-old woman, a 2-year-old girl and 5-year-old rayvon robinson, who was killed. the car careened back on the highway and hit two other vehicles. charges have not been filed. an officer hit in the line of duty is doing better. the officer was wounded on september 3rd, trying to stop an armed robbery in progress.

one of the suspects was killed in the shootout. two others are facing charges. a trenton school is still shocked tonight after a kindergartener took 30 packets of heroin to class in his lunchbox. the 5-year-old was playing with one when the teacher saw it. he was rushed to the hospital to be tested for opiates, but he was clean. no other children were involved. school officials say they are working with police on that case. in weather, we hit record highs in several cities across the tri-state. a cooldown is coming, turning summer into fall. the wild temperature swing is coming. cecily tynan? >> a weather whiplash on the way. today did feel like fall.

philadelphia tieing the record high of 92. trenton, a new record of 93. allentown and lancaster, 91. atlantic city airport, 92. we were sweltering today. now things are beginning to change. temperatures feeling more comfortable. the wind shifted behind the cold front. philadelphia at 76 degrees with a wind out of the north pulling the drier, cool air. syracuse, new york, 65. this front, unfortunately producing little in the way of rainfall. otherwise, getting the wind shift and the clouds rolling through. the cold front will bring a taste of fall for the next two days. friday morning, the coolest morning in three months. don't get used to it. i have a quick return of warmer air coming up in the accuweather seven day forecast. monica? >> thank you. a south jersey congregation does not know where they will worship after a century's old

church was dammed by fire. it doesn't look worse for the wear on the outside, but inside the damage is clear. flames broke out at 11:45. it was difficult to fight the fire because of stacked up chairs and tables in the basement. the congregation is accepting donations. boston marathon hopefuls in our area have been stopped in their tracks, literally. "action news" reporter, dann cuellar explains. >> reporter: the boston marathon is one of the most prestigious races in the world. >> you have to qualify to get in there and it's not guaranteed. >> reporter: sunday, a strange thing happened. 100 runners trying to qualify got held up by a northrop southern train 6789. >> people trying to cross in front of racers, but nothing like a train.

>> reporter: this 27-year-old spoke to us by phone got held up. >> i was throwing my hands up in disbelief as i was running down the hill, watching the train go across the course. >> reporter: one of the craziest thing they have seen. some held up as long as 10 minutes. >> it was chaotic. nobody knew what to do. >> some runners crossed between rail cars. >> that was uncalled for. that, i'm not going to condone. it's a bad situation, don't make it worse. >> reporter: in june, they were given assurances rail traffic would not abinstruct the race. the safety of runners is the primary concern. they offered their apologies. >> i understand they can't control the rail company and it's just one of those things that can't really be planned, but i am still disappointed it got handled the way it did. >> reporter: a spokesman says they feel bad but will not

winston salem north carolina. they sprayed down the flames with fire extinguishers. today, the three good samaritans and seven police officers were honored for their efforts putting themselves in harms way. health check at 11:00, a study calls into question what the best course of action is for early stage prostate cancer. researchers found men who choes to closely monitor the disease were just as likely to survive as those who had surgery and radiation. 99% of men lived at least ten years no matter which treatment they received. surgery and radiation have negative side effects. they welcomed the results and said our aggressive approach resulted in more than 1 million american men getting treatment.

it would be hard to convince patients the best thing to do is nothing at all. in new jersey, veterans and others suffering from ptsd can legally treat their symptoms with medical marijuana when regular treatment doesn't work. they are the 18th strait to approve it. clear, objective criteria and what is appropriate for ptsd usage. philadelphia's beverage tax is at the center of a lawsuit. they say it unfairly targets soda based on size rather than price. the city is prepared to defend the tax and they have no doubt they will win. it amounts to 18 cents on a 12-ounce can of soda. it's said to take effect in january. you don't have to tip your driver if you take one of these

uber cars. there is no driver. the first trial run of self-driving ford fusion started picking up fares today. each vehicle has 20 cameras, seven lasers and a 360 degree radar system to monitor the surroundings. an engineer sits behind the wheel in case. they think it will be years before driverless cars become the standard. the united states signed a deal to give israel an unprecedented amount of money for security. $38 billion over ten years. this is the largest agreement they have had over any country. they must phase out their israeli products and spend money on american military industries. the united states has 35 new citizens tonight. these men and women took part in

degrees. that will be the coolest morning in three months. however, it's not going to last. look at this. the six to ten day outlook, most of the country above average. the greatest above average right around our region. the second half of next week, temperatures running ten degrees above the normal highs. it's going to get warm again. the exclusive accuweather seven day forecast, a beautiful day. more sunshine to the north, clouds to the south. the cold front is stalling out. 80 is the high tomorrow. friday, gorgeous. low humidity and warmer temperatures return for the weekend. saturday a nice day, partly sunny, 85 degrees. sunday is going to be on the muggy side. not a wash outbut could get a heavy shower and thunderstorm the second half of the day. a high 86. a lingering shower possible the first half of the day on monday, 84 degrees. then temperatures start climbing again. tuesday well above normal, 86.

wednesday, very warm with a high of 87 degrees. so, i like summer. i don't really want it to end, but i think a lot of people are hoping for a taste of fall. a new program is getting friendly dogs. an important job to help children who need to appear in court. the court companion program is a paws for people, a non-profit organization that works with therapy dogs. it's something the dogs owners know will bring happiness to the animals, too. >> she is in her glory. she loves the attention. she loves the pets. she loves her job. no doubt about it, beneficial for everyone involved. >> eight dogs will work on the team. other states use similar programs and they have been a success. thomas klein received an award at a ceremony.
