his deputy chief put it, this was a good day. he and dozens of other officers gathered outside of regional medical care center to watch vidal be released. paramedics wheeled officer vidal out of the medical center to loud applause, he gave the thumbs up and a salute before being put in an ambulance. his wife and others looked on and there were a lot of tears. >> he was in pain. i was there momentarily, and he is speaking and in good spirits and he is a good kid. >> officer vidal was shot in the head in the early morning hours of september 23rd. vidal was shot as he got out of his cruiser, his partner returned fire and killed one suspect, and fellow officers

rushed vidal to the hospital. >> luckily it hit him in the right lobe, and did not cross the mid-line, it stayed there that is a good progmostic factor. >> wounds to the head generally don't have a good outcome and he has done better than most. >> two others were arrested for the shooting. they were charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery and other related charges. vidal will continue his rehabilitation in philadelphia. doctors say he has months of recovery. police brass say it's unclear if the father of two who is expecting a third child will return to the force. >> he is a determined individual and it would not surprise me if that is in the cards for josh. we'll wait and see. >> reporter: exactly where he will continue his rehabilitation

getting the firearms off the street. sara bloomquist joins us live this afternoon. >> reporter: brian, the atf is now joining a group called the national shooting sports foundation and offering a $10,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects that broke into the gun store in mayfair and stole 17 handguns, they did it three times in the past two weeks and the latest one happened yesterday. this video shows one of the suspects inside of locks philadelphia gun exchange throwing barrels at a glass case trying to get in and steal handgun, here is more video of a suspect in the same store on a different date. three time they have broken into the gun shop on roland avenue making off with 17 handguns.

>> there were five on august 26th and then on september 14th, an additional 12 stolen. on the second incident on september 1st, where the suspect was throwing gun barrels, nothing was taken. likely because the police were staking out the business across the street. the owners told us at least one suspect accesses the interior through the roof and still images show the broken glass case and these photos show the police response. still the suspect got in and out in the matter of seconds. the atf does not think he acted alone. >> we believe there is more than one person in this events. all three are treated as being done by the same individuals but the investigation is ongoing. >> reporter: the owners told us they have operated this mayfair location for the last 60 years

a biting incident. police believe he bit a woman at the made in america event. it happened when she was in the general admission area on the ben franklin parkway, she received medical help at a tent on the scene. and traffic was tied up today on the new jersey turnpike, two tractor trailers and an suv collided between exits 3 and 4 in cherry hill. police say that nobody was hurt but the crash caused major delays during the morning rush, crews were able to remove all the debris and reopen all the lanes at 10:45 this morning. adam is back and peeking at the temperature there. under 80 degrees, we are hovering there in philadelphia but most areas are staying in the 70s, a refreshing change after all the 90s we experienced

this summer season including the records yesterday. as we look at sky 6 hd at the center city skyline, a few cirrus clouds the dew point is low at 43 degrees with an east-southeasterly wind and the heat index a degree below with such dry air and the beautiful baby blue sky up in easton, 76 degrees with a calm wind and the heat index similar to the air temperature and what a change for us locally, but for the majority of the mid-atlantic region, we are looking at 15 to 19 degrees cooler this time yesterday in washington, where it was 95 degrees yesterday. so a little cool down, a little break from the heat. but it will make a come back, we'll talk about the chance for much needed rain over part of the weekend and the temperatures climbing at least 10 to almost 15 degrees above normal as we get into next week again.

southbound lanes of 95, this just cropped up 10 minutes ago. i tweeted out a picture five minutes ago of this pickup truck with huge flames coming from it. since then the ladder truck got in here and extinguished or is in the process of extinguishing the truck fire. the left lane is open southbound from the ramp from morris street. as you come away from the vine street expressway you hit the wall of traffic. the good old gaper delay coming from the walt whitman bottom line is you may want to stay on columbus boulevard or one of numbers streets or broad street. i-95 is a mess because of this pickup fire. the other major issue is septa regional rails, newark line is suspended because of an accident involving a pedestrian in glenolden.
