release of the atlantic city police officer shot in the head two weeks ago. [ applause ] officer josh vidal gave a thumbs up for a show of support as he left the hospital today. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live now in atlantic city. >> reporter: monica, right now officer vidal is at a rehab center in philadelphia. earlier today he was released from the hospital if atlantic city and dozens of his fellow officers were on hand. the applause was loud, officer josh vidal's spirit uplifting, he waived and gave a thumbs up and saluted his brothers and sisters in blue. and was wheeled away to go to an undisclosed rehab facility. i was there momently.

he is speaking and in good spirits, he is a tough kid. >> vidal suffered a gunshot wound to the head at the caesars parking lot. vidal and his partner were interrupting a robbery in progress. and his partner opened fire and killed one suspect. two others were caught and charged with attempted murder and robbery and other related charges. vidal's doctors and nurses also received a loud applause, dr. eller was his brain surgeon, he said part of the skull had to be removed to relieve pressure. >> it will take time but we are optimistic he will make a full recovery. >> vidal is a husband and father of two and a third child is on the way, his wife and family were on hand. >> he has children and a wife and family who loves him. he has great comrade thads work with him and think the world of

three armed bank robberies, officers released the clear image of a crime and showing pointing a handgun at a teller demanding cash two robberies happened yesterday, one at a td in bellmawr and one at a td bank in bellside and one in blackwood on september 6th. and three break-ins at the same gun shop in the mayfair section. and now 17 guns are missing. sara bloomquist joins us live outside of the atf headquarters in washington scare with more on the thefts and a $10,000 reward being offered. >> reporter: that is right. the atf is joining with the group called the national shooting sports foundation offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the

arrest and conviction of these suspects that keep breaking into this mayfair gun shop. three times in the past two weeks, they made off with 17 handguns. >> this surveillance video shows a suspect throwing gun barrels like spears at a glass display case trying to access handguns to steam. here is the suspect in the same gunshot app breaking in he didn't get any on september 1st but late august and again yesterday morning, the thief made off with 17 handguns at the gun exchange in mayfair. >> there were five on august 26th and again on september 14th an additional 14 stolen. they showed where one suspect got in through the roof, this is a still photo from a shattered

display case from where guns were taken. and each time the thief was in and out in seconds and probably did not act alone. >> we believe there is more than one person that participated in the event and all three incidents are treated as being done by the same individuals, a lot of similarities but the investigation is ongoing. >> the suspect was wearing a distinctive sweatshirt with the word kin on the front like this. and the guns are typically sold quickly on the street and often used to commit crimes. >> the guns stolen are quickly peddled on to the streets and to criminals that use them in shootings. we want the individuals identified and arrested and to recovery the firearms. the owners told us they operated the family business at this location for the past 60 years and nothing like this has ever happened before. they are having razor wire

a new museum in old city honoring the american revolution will not open for another seven months but the courtyard is open. they unveiled the beautiful plaza at chestnut and 3rd. katherine scott has more on this addition to philadelphia. >> reporter: a revolutionary

the normal high for philadelphia 78 degrees, 2 degrees better than that. allentown and trenton and sea isle city all temperatures in the 70s. big change from yesterday with temperatures in the 90s. tonight is the coolest night in three months, normal low is 61 and a couple of degrees cooler than that. 59 in philadelphia and lehigh valley dropping down to 49 degrees, tomorrow morning you may want to have a sweatshirt or a light jacket or sweater definitely on the chilly side. right now beautiful, 77 in philadelphia and 74 in allentown and trenton and the wind off the ocean along the beaches, temperatures dropping down into the upper 60s. satellite 6 along with action radar showing we are in a holding pattern, high pressure over us that is keeping any moisture from tropical storm julia from moving up from the south and the next chance of rain comes with a cold front slicing through the plains and

that will not be arriving until late sunday into monday. until then we stay dry and we'll be cool tomorrow morning, the bus stop forecast a cool start to the day, the kids may want to wear a sweatshirt or light jacket. 8:00, 59 and tomorrow afternoon a carbon copy of today. low humidity and wall-to-wall sunshine with a high of 80 degree, but as we head into the weekend high pressure is moving to the east and we get the return flow around it and winds out of the southeast shifting to the south during the day on saturday. that will pull up warmer air and 83 degrees and a touch more humid with dew points in the 60s and then that system will bring us finally a chance of some rain sunday into monday. not a washout but at least a little bit of much needed rain, so the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast cool start to the day tomorrow. should be a beautiful end with a high of 80 degrees, mostly sunny skies and low humidity and heading into the weekend, saturday definitely the better of the two days, partly sunny
