confronted a clergyman and his wife and son. >> i was definitely in fear for our lives. >> reporter: we are shielding the face of stephanie cook the pistol packing wife of this man, pastor roberts cook last night she shot the robbery suspect who confronted her husband and 12-year-old son outside their home on pratt street around 11 o'clock. the man appeared to be wielding a sawed off shotgun. >> i really believed he had a sawed off shotgun and he was going to kill us. that's what i feared for that's what my wife thought. he had to be steel. >> reporter: the reverend and his wife are licensed to carry. eventually she got a clear shot at the man and she took it. >> i didn't want to kill the guy. i wanted him to drop the gun and i wanted him to get away. that is why the first shot i did aim towards his lower body. >> reporter: the wounded suspect shot in the leg fled. the reverend now with his wife's rigor 22 pistol in hand stayed after him. the man eventually discarded

his weapon which turned out to be a modified nail gun. he was eventually arrested by police. >> i kept telling him to get on the ground. finally he tried opening up car doors of people driving by he was trying to get away like help me he shot me he's trying to rob me. everybody would take off on him. >> was it a real gun? we couldn't tell that for sure. that's one of the reasons why i did not want to, um, aim to kill on that first shot. >> reporter: that suspect is 66 years old. police have not yet released his name. he is recovering from that wound to the leg. police believe he was involved in another attempted home invasion around here earlier in the night. live in northeast philadelphia, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you vernon. a camden woman is charged with giving a false alibi for a person of interin the, interest in the shooting of this eight-year-old girl last month. gabrielle carter was gunned

down after being caught in the crossfire of a gang drug war. police say someone hindered the investigation. "action news" reporter chad pradelli live at camden county police with more on that. chad. >> reporter: yeah, one person has been charged in this case but it's not a murder charge and that's what police want and they're asking for the public's help. it's been a bittersweet few weeks for marisa carter phillips and william phillips. they welcomed a new son but lost daughter gaby and her killer remains at large. >> i remember her always telling me he she was wanted family time. i'm her coming and rubbing my belly and talking to the baby. and asking me how. i doing day. police are looking for multiple shooters who opened fire on south eighth street around 8:30 p.m. on august 24th. investigators say they're part of a drug trade here in camden. shakia land is now charged with hindering an investigation.

this. there is a $76,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. i'm live in camden, chad pradelli channel6 "action news." >> thank you chad. a person on a bicycle suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in montgomery county. it happened at 6:40 this morning at moreland and dallas roads in up are moreland township. the driver tells police they never saw that cyclist until the collision. the victim suffered head and body injuries and a partial amputation of a thumb. police are not releasing the names of those involved because no criminal charges are expected. do we need speed cameras to stop deadly accidents on the roosevelt boulevard? traditionally one of the most dangerous roads in the country. police and some legislators say yes along with victims' family but not everyone agrees. a, news reporter gray hall reports tonight on the state committee hearing day. if you travel along roosevelt boulevard in northeast philadelphia, then you know how busy and how dangerous it can be. over the past several years

the stretch of roadway has claimed dozens of lives and seen thousands of accidents. >> too many lives were lost. too many lives. this is long overdue. long, long overdue. >> reporter: there is now legislation in the works that would install speed cameras to the area. many who travel and live along this chaotic section of highway welcome the news. >> it will give people the idea that they need to slow down. >> when you know are you being watched and you're accountable for your actions then you're going to be more careful. >> reporter: speed cameras would work similar to technology used in those red light cameras to catch violators there will be signs warning drivers about the cameras and tickets will be issued to those going at least 11 miles over the posted 45 miles per hour speed limit. >> it should come as no surprise as to why this stretch of roadway has become singled out in this legislation. since 2011 through september 13 of this year 57 people have died along this roadway and there have been approximately 18,638 vehicle crashes. >> reporter: tanya byrd lost

turns out she was having a massive heart attack but no one knew it. employees called 911 and the dispatcher urged them to find someone who knew cpr. at that very moment gary showed up. >> all the doctors praised him. he was so good. he was better than we could have done. i'm grateful gary. i'm grateful. i'm grateful. i know without gary i wouldn't be here. >> isn't that incredible. gary was not even supposed to be in the building at that time. he had come in two hours early because the dnc was in town that day and he wanted to get his mail delivered on time. very nice. a first of its kind event is being held in philadelphia to help families affected by autism. terry matthews and lee woodill parents of a son with autism are co-hosting a conference tomorrow called "it's only me quote. the conference brings together families who are dealing with autistic children. tomorrow's conference is co-hosted by the nfl players association.

it will be held at the hilton hotel on city avenue. pumpkin picking season it won't be quite as good this year in our area because of the hot july weather. farmers are telling folks to get out there sooner rather than later if you want a choice of pumpkins without paying a premium. "action news" reporter john rawlins has more tonight from linville in a orchard in delaware county. >> reporter: the current dry weather stressing trees and lawns also responsible for lighter less heavy pumpkins this year. but a bigger issue for pumpkin growers like linvilla orchard in delaware county the very hot days of july. it's then when pumpkin flowers must be pollinated so vines will bear this familiar fruit in the fall. >> july there was that big spell where there was seven days with 102, 110 heat index and it just -- they he did not set fruit then. >> reporter: that is important and why despite irrigation this field is yielding about half the expected number of pumpkins this year. with its big retail operation linvilla manager norm schultz buys if other farms but this

closest to the start of fall. the moon rise at 7:15, seven minute after the sun sets. so we have a clear start to the weekend but as we head into sunday night and monday, fortunately we're looking at some rain on the way. if the models hold true knock on wood looks like we could get a pretty decent amount of moisture as much as an inch of rain in parts of our western suburbs as that front moves through most of the cold fronts that have been moving through this summer have been moisture stabbed so we really need the rain. right now 75 degrees in philadelphia. nice friday night. allentown 77. in cape may 68 degrees trenton 71 and wilmington 73. satellite6 along with action radar showing right now the atmosphere is in a bit of a holding pattern. we have high pressure off the eastern seaboard. that gave us loads of sunshine. you can see this spin down there. that is tropical storm julia really not affecting our weather. what we have to wait for is this cold front across the plains and it's a slow moving system. it actually won't be moving through until monday so that
