spruce. >> that's a radio call that were the re went out when that sergeant was it hit late last night. seven in all, including a pennsylvania police officer, a woman sitting in her car killed. bob brooks following the story i'll morning long, jones us in in university city where the officers are being treated. whats is latest. >> reporter: greg, good morning, according to the mayor, these officers in good spirits. they're talking, one he said was even cracking jokes. we do know this was, in fact, an ambush attack, commissioner richard ross telling us finding notes on the suspect. hatred for police officers and parole officers. i want to bring up video and look back on what's transpired. this started at 52nd and samson where sergeant sylvia young was

sitting in her car. she looked up and sees a man approaching her car with a gun. and opens fire, she shot at 18 times. she hit multiple times in the arm. now, the suspect takes offer on foot eastbound down samson. as he's running, he shoots into a bar, hits a security guard, shoes another woman in the leg. the suspect continues down samson fires at a car that has nothing to do with this. two people inside. a woman and a man. they're both shot. sadly the woman pronounced dead. eventually, the suspect runs into an confronted by a police officer and cops. that's where there was a gun fight that shot and killed. fair and impartials are sickened by this happening. it could have turned out worse. let's listen. >> one officer was cracking jokes with his kids, his wife, the other was talk with her

family. we're very happy and blessed that's the way it turned out. i think that we have to keep, our prayers, civilians still hurt in various degrees of being treated. all in all, it was a terrible scary night. >> bottom line is, the mayor said he's guy cracking the jokes, we're happy about that. his family is here. thank god the sergeant is also doing well. >> we're were very blessed because at least with hartnett and now sergeant young, you got an individual walking right up on the police car unprovoked and starts firing multiple round. you said absolutely amazing that she is here. >> reporter: ok, we heard commissioner ross say the name hartnett. we're talking about officer jesse hartnett who was ambushed in his cruiser in a similar style attack earlier. at this point, no words from officers who the shooter is.

who the victim is who was killed that woman who what you in her car. bob brooks, channel 6 action news. >> thank you so much. neighbors there in west philadelphia where the officer was targeted now calling for an end to the violence. one man says he heard the gunshots last night. then saw people running. >> they heard the shots and they didn't want to get shot. they was just trying to get out the way. everybody just trying to protect themselves. >> and the man you just heard from said the violence in his neighborhood needs to stop. the shooting happened blocks away from where another philadelphia police officer was ambushed earlier this year. it was back in january when jesse hartnett was shot inside of his police cruiser at 60th and spruce in west philadelphia. officer hartnett survived that shooting. the suspect will stand trial next month. stay with action news and 6 abc.com for the latest on this police ambush. we'll bring you new information

as it comes into our newsroom. of course we'll have another live report coming up in the next half hour. time is about 9:06. learning more information about the shooting of two police officers, this time near dallas texas. responding to a reported suicide. they found a man shot and killed inside of a home. another person told the officers that a witness to the shooting you what outside in the shed. the officers went to look. when they opened the door, the suspect shot them both, they returned fire and called for help >> our officers are injured, hurting. their families are hurting. please pray for them. >> thoughts and prayers go out to those officers there in texas. the swat team later found the suspect dead inside the shed. he had been shot. at this point, investigators are are not saying if he took his own life. back here in the area, investigators in bucks county working to forget out what caused a two alarm fire. chopper 6 over that scene in

hill town township. the flames and heavy smoke shooting from a home on the one hand block. took crews about two hours to get this fire under chrome. we're told that no one was hurt. temple takes on penn state later today and there is outrage over a plan to honor former headcoach joe paterno. the planned event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of paterno's first win but the school came under fire. he was fired in the wake of the sandusky sexual abuse scandal. one account he was told about the put abuse. many supporters say he was wronged by the university. we'll have much more a little later in the them football play book. now to the race for 2016. hillary clinton will be in the nation's capitol a bit literary today to address the congressional black caucus foundation while her rival republican donald trump

last couple of days have you don't have the been picture perfect. high temperatures both thursday and friday. struggle just to reach 80 degrees in philadelphia. the surrounding suburbs never even got out of the 70's. delightful stuff. looks good out there this morning, radars are accu weather. we're sitting at 65 right now in philadelphia after bottoming out at 59. due point 57. some of the surrounding suburbs down to 49. 30.24 inches holding study. east southeast at 60 miles per hour, 50 in the poconos, 60 in allentown, is 65 philadelphia, millville 67 and cape may checking in at 72. satellite 6 along with action radar, we're tracking this little band of moisture stretching from the great lakes states all the way down through the ohio and tennessee valleys a cold front that will produce showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. then again monday morning, some drenching downpours. this is high thin cloud activity off on the southwest. and that's what we're going to

see from start to finish. a decent amount of sunshine mixed with high thin clouds from time to time. that will help to keep the temperatures down into the low 80's. as we head into tomorrow, here we go, starting with limited sunshine across the coastal planes, clouds lowering and thickening to the midwest, that giver ways to showers and storms. probably after 3:00, mainly north and west of the city. for tomorrow. that band progresses east sunday into monday and look out. here we go, heavy drenching downpours, a good bit. riding that i95 corridor from baltimore and dc all the way up through new york city and some of this appears as if it's going to come down as a at a good clip. rainfall totals are anywhere from one to two to perhaps three, maybe more inches of rain, really, just depends where the drenching downpours set up. i don't want you to look at this and take the as gospel. do understand the point that some locations could see drenching downpours and two, three inches is certainly possible if you get underneath one of those tropical downpours. it depends where the heaviest

here's a look at our due points. the scale is towards the top of your screen. you can see where the numbers actually rank. 55 is considered nice. actually anything in the 50's is very, very comfortable. most of the oh viewing area in the 50's at this hour, we're seeing low 60, low to mid 60's across the delaware bay region and that is slightly humid to humid. the southern portions picking up more moisture, a little more sticky. satellite 6 along with action radar, the out to the west is a cold front. that will get in here late into monday. 80 is today, accu-weather will go about 83 for the forecasted high. nice start to the weekend. notice turns noticeably more humid and warmer. 86 degree for the high with the humidity, maybe it will feel like 87 or 88. but for the most part it will mirror the air temperature but it will be more sticky.

district but was on assignment in west philadelphia. sergeant young is 46. she is the mother of who grown daughters and amazingly, she survived having being shot eight times. she's in stable condition. the shooting bears a disturbing and shocking similarity to the ambush of another philadelphia police officer, just blocks away, officer jesse hartnett was shot inside his police cruiser at 60th and spruce. he survived earlier. the suspect will stand trial next month. . stay with action news and 6abc.com for the latest on this police ambush. we'll bring you new information the second it comes into our newsroom. not long after the rage page. there was yet another shooting also in west philadelphia. a man was shot in the back. officers rushed to the scene at holy and ogden is street. he was admitted in critical condition. the search continues this

morning for the shooter and clues. also a motive. a second child died dates after this crash in north hampton county. 2-year-oldbry yell robinson died at lehigh valley hospital. 5-year-old ravonrobinson was also killed on i 78. four others were hurt. police say the driver of the car lost control, hit a guardrail and was then hit by two oncoming vehicles. police say they found open containers of alcohol in the car. it is not clear whether alcohol played a role in the crash. time now 9:36. from our new jersey room, an autopsy planned for today on this him. back whale that washed up on the beach in sea aisle city. experts from the marine center there in brigantine say he appears to have been dead several days. the you don't know male is more than 30 feet long and weighs

edition of temple playbook with matt rhule. i'm ducis rogers. you guys have a huge game going to happy valley. both team coming in at one and one. how big of a game is this? >> it's a huge game for us. any time you have a chance to play a team of the caliber of penn state, any time you have a chance to, you know, go on the road, it's the first time going on the road. for us, we believe that every game we play and should be a huge opportunity. we only get a chance to play 12 a year. we work 365 days. this for us is everything that we work for and look forward to. >> last year you guys beat them 27-10. a great win at the linc. what impact does last year's game have on this week's. >> none. at the end of the day, we were able to win the game last year. it was great, great moment for our program, our fans and team, but none of those plays will carry over into this game. if anything, last year's game taught us was that you just have to keep playing.

ever since it's been like man, animals are such cool encourages. they just want somebody to love them and i feel like myself as a big caring person, dogs and animals is a part of life. god blessed us. >> reporter: dian's love of animals spreads to his team mates who will sometimes accompany him on a local animal she would on day off. >> he lots of animals. when we were at the shelter, he just, you know, you could see him playing with the dogs, they allowed us to play with them. you can see excitement >> this dog is like no, you can't have all of the dogs, nobody can take care of them all. i feel like, if people really see like how, how loving dogs are and really like get to know them and find out their different personalities, they would understand that every dog needs a home just like how you would want somebody that needs to be adopted like as a regular human, needs like a home too.
