anger erupts for a second night on the streets of charlotte, north carolina. within the past couple hours, peaceful protests marred by violence. police in riot gear fired tear gas over the crowd. another african-american killed by police will not happen quietly. many protesters dispursed but a liep of them are facing against police ft many items fired. it looks like fireworks. it's unclear as the protesters when it could turn violent again. wednesday night, jim is off, i'm monica malpass. that's the big story on "action news." a night of protest sent several people to the hospital, one in critical condition. charlotte authorities say it was not police who opened fire but a civilian shooting another civilian as police -- six police

officers suffered minor injuries when a group of protesters wept from a peaceful prayer vigil and confronted police officers. they fired tear gas several times and took people they consider agitators into custody. they are not saying how many people that is yet. this stems from the fatal police shooting of an african-american man on tuesday. keith scott was shot and killed by an officer, who is also african-american. scott emerged from his vehicle holding a gun and refused to drop it. some say he was holding a book, not a gun. three of the officers involved were wearing cameras and investigators are reviewing that footage. at home, one officer was

severely slashed across his face. "action news" reporter, dann cuellar has a medical update and the latest on the suspect. dann? >> reporter: while the investigation is ongoing, we learned the officer who was stabbed have been treated at home with his family. crime scene investigators were on scene. a soccer ball set in the front yard between evidence markers three and two and a boot behind marker two. a man who lived here? >> i know the individual has mental issues. >> reporter: it was unknown to officers who accompanied service workers to the house to check on a child. when the officers approached the front door, he stabbed one in the head. he was spitting at officers. they had to place something over

his head. >> the spit was going all over the police. >> yeah. >> i was saying my goodness, don't have no respect for the officers. >> reporter: the officer was taken to the hospital where he received stitches to the head and later released. a second officer was treated and released. arrested was johnny flores. >> he has issues. >> i'm stunned. they have roosters. that's all i know about them. pretty quiet. >> reporter: police union police says the officer is 40 years old, a 14-year veteran of the police department. he says thank god he is home with his family tonight. the suspect is being held on $5,000 cash bail on charges of

fake alibi for a person in interest. the wife of the bomber suspect is back on american soil tonight. this is her airplane returns to jfk. she left the country three months ago, about the time officials alleged her husband began building his bomb. she was attempting to board a plane. witnesses are needed. the fbi put out the call for these two men who were seen moving it. placingette on a sidewalk and taking the bag it was in. they will not be arrested. they got very lucky, ar shlly disarming it whep they move it. a canine unit police officer who was caught up in a prostitution investigation committed suicide today. the officer ed leopardi spent 20

years on the force and served as mayor in glouser county. the married father of three is a good guy, a few years from retirement that got caught up in a bad thing. hundreds of people attended this vigil to remember a young woman shot and killed in wilmington over the weekend. she was an innocent bystander when shots rang out early sunday morning. she left behind a 7-month-old son who attended the vigil with his grandmother. many in attendance were with the thunder motorcycle club. bucks county has a new district attorney. 47-year-old matthew weintraub will fulfill the spot of heckler. he plans to seek a full

eateries offer price fixed menus to lure new diners. some are fed up and it's leaving a bad taste in their mouth. walter perez has been sampling this newfound bitterness. >> reporter: scott schroeder owner of hungry pigeon says -- >> it's not restaurant week when it's held two weeks in the fall and one in the winter. >> now that it's four weeks a year, it's a month and hard on us. >> he doesn't take part in restaurant week. during four weeks, he's competing offering a 50% discount. schroeder says diners taking part in restaurant week aren't getting the full men knew. >> they are undercutting themselves, so they need to make money out of it.

only a few are left. between 9:00 and 10:00 was the worst of it. one person is fighting for his life. a civilian shot or injured by another civilian. police fired tear gas canistered and wore their body armor. they had to come out to maintain peace and fight off the protesters. six police officers were injured in charlotte, tonight. a lot of the activity, the violence happening outside the omni hotel. in health check, the ceo of a pharmaceutical company that hiked the price of the epipen was in the hot seat today. they grilled her to find out why the device costs $600, instead of $100. her salary rose to $19 million.
