good afternoon sara bloomquist is off. we are beginning with breaking news at this hour. there is finally an arrest in the murder of 8-year-old gabrielle carter in camden. she was killed by a stray bullet a month ago. and today they tracked down the 18-year-old suspect hundreds of miles away. jeanet jeanette reyes is live with more. >> reporter: after a month long manhunt for the man that killed gabrielle carter just miles from her home, "action news" learned that police made an arrest. he was hundreds of miles away in clarksville tennessee. brown was arrested by federal marshals. on august 24th, grabby was playing outside and was shot in the head and died a few days later. for weeks the police chief and

gabby's parents pleaded for information on gabby's killer. the reward bloomed to more than $75,000. and two women were later charged with hindering the investigation. "action news" spoke to gabby's mother just after detectives told her about the arrest. >> i feel like it was good that they got them. nothing is twoing to change the fact that my daughter is gone and i have a loss. to be feeling cheerful and happy -- i don't. you know, it was relief off my back but i feel the same way, my daughter is not here anymore. >> in just minutes we'll hear from the camden police chief and have more details on this arrest. reporting in camden, janet reyes channel 6 "action news." now to the latest from charlotte, north carolina. the city saw a third night of protesters over a police involved shooting in which a man

was killed. but this time demonstrators kept things calm and demanded to see video of the deadly encounter. hundreds of national guard troops are still on the scene. >> reporter: about afternoon. we saw a quiet night as hundreds protested peacefully and now the community is wondering what to do to keep the peace and make sure violence does not break out in the city. giving way to quiet streets as the mayor announced a city wide curfew. something hundreds of protesters ignored. demanding justice for keith scott, a black man killed by a police officer. they ran past the police in riot gear and they remained peaceful and police allowed the demonstrations to continue. some wept so far as to thank the members of of the national guard and thank them for hire service.

>> president obama says police and community relations are an issue in the u.s. but hopes there is a way to solve this. >> it's important for all of us to say we need to get this right. >> officials in charlotte are trying to restore order. >> our uptown area is largely open for business, and we are working to rush to normalcy. and help the city prevent the violence we have seen throughout the week from happening this weekend. those protests led to the arrest of 50 people and thousands worth of damage and one death. justice carrs protest was shot in the head by another protesters. >> scott's family says he did not own a weapon and in his hand was a book. >> police say they will not release the body or dash-cam video of the shooting, but they

did show it to the scott family, but the video left them with more questions than answers. but asked that it be released to the public. back here police are investigating a deadly car crash in burlington county, it happened at 2:30 in florence township, at west front street and woodlawn avenue, the man driving the vehicle was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. the government star witness in the bridge gate trial could take the witness stand today. two former allies of governor, chris christie. while they plead guilty to orchestrating traffic jams as a way to cause problems for the mayor that did not endorse christie. turning to accuweather now, the first full day of fall.

but still feeling like summer out there. as we look live from sky 6 hd, a pretty picture of penn's landing on a warm and humid afternoon. melissa magee is on the terrace tracking the conditions. happy friday. >> reporter: happy friday to you as well. it's warm and getting warmer through the rest of the afternoon. right now in philadelphia we come in at 78 degrees and 80 for trenton and wilmington the lower 80s for lancaster and reading and cape pay 74 and dew point numbers are not terrible at this hour. along the 95 corridor and to the north and west they are in the upper 50s and lower 60s, relatively comfortable but the humidity and moisture starting to creep up for beach haven, atlantic city and cape may and on west into dover, delaware. here is an issue with the forecast, the air quality is unhealthy for sensitive groups,

we have an ozone action day. kids and elderly if you suffer from respiratory illnesses. we have a cold front out in portions of new england and the break and this dips on down to the southeast and that ushers in the change for us for the start of our weekend, in fact future tracker 6 showing as you we get into saturday afternoon. check out the numbers only in the lower 70s by 2:00 tomorrow in our northwest suburbs and in the middle and upper 70s to points southeast. we'll take a closer look at the forecast and let you know when the front comes through. and if we expect precipitation and a nice taste of fall on the way for the start of the official fall weekend. >> all right melissa thank you. camden leaders are welcoming another new business to the city's waterfront today. the philadelphia 76ers just opened their brand new training

stuff he is handling and playing at a high level. >> the steelers are also 2-0, kickoff is sunday at the linc at 4:25. we are just days away from the face-off with presidential candidates, hillary clinton, and donald trump. trump is home in new york city today getting ready for monday's debate. sources tell abc news he is reading material ahead of time but not relying on mock debates for his showdown against clinton. meantime, hillary clinton continues her intense preparation and her last appearance was this one in orlando earlier this week. it shows her lead is shrinking it the swing states of colorado and virginia but is maintaining a slight edge nationally. and "action news" will be on the ground at hofstra university for the bee date. look for live reports starting

we have breaking news in camden to talk about our top story, about the 18-year-old suspect in the murder of 8-year-old gabrielle carter. >> law enforcement partners and deputy chief, frank falco and representing the fbi philadelphia division christian sajak and representing the united states marshall service for the eastern area of this location is united states marshall dave carreno. and we also have with us -- i think that is pretty much it and the key investigators. that have really been working hard day and night since the

moment this incident occurred. so two days ago we issued a murder warrant for first degree murder on tyhan brown for the shooting death of gabriel carter. brown was located earlier this morning by the u.s. marshals down in tennessee. clarksville, tennessee, and is taken into custody and being held down there. we will be sending an investigators from the prosecutors office down there to start the extradition process to bring him to account. his mother was the woman charged with hindering the investigation and providing a false alibi and it was his girlfriend, in a tasha gerard providing him with a false alibi. this is not a moment of

celebration but a moment of notification, we have other individuals responsible for the events that night. and we'll relentlessly continue our investigation and bring them to justice. brown is significant so being able to bring some semblance of justice to the family of the child. i ask the mayor, dana redd, to say a few words. >> thank you chief thompson. since this is an ongoing investigation i want to say thank you to our chief and all of our law enforcement partners for their work in apprehending those individuals that tragically ended the life of gabby carter, i know the family experienced a tremendous loss

and it had a tremendous impact on the community of camden that grieves the loss of an 8-year-old caught in the crossfire, we stand shoulder to shoulder with chief thompson a all of our law enforcement partners to bring the individuals to justice and want to thank them all and ask for your prayers for gabby's mother and father and all of her relatives and all the children that lost a friend. thank you chief. >> thank you mayor. i first want to say on behalf of the board of freeholders to thank the law enforcement agencies involved in the effort from the fbi to county metro and county police and camden county prosecutors office and the marshals office, it's a tremendous effort. and i think there is a message to the commune of camden, the county of camden and city of camden will work together in partnership to make sure these

held up. officer shelby was released on $50,000 bond. investigators are hoping that the wife of bombing suspect, of ahmad rahami will provide information about his ties to terrorists. she is being questioned by the fbi and rahami's father is deny that a burned out patch of grass in his backyard is from his son's testing bombs. police have learned that he purchased the gun he used with a shootout with police in a shop in virginia. the african-american museum of history and culture opens tomorrow. and the museum exhibits of 3500 artifacts and it explores the history of savory and jim crow and the contribution of
