was president of israel between 2007-2014. he twice served as his country's prime minister twice. as acting prime minister. he was a minister of foreign affairs and was in fact part of his 12 israeli cabinets during a political career that spanned 66 years. he was the last of israel's founding fathers, a protege. he won the philadelphia liberty medal in '96. he is dead tonight at the age of 93. it happened tonight at the willow grove mall, a scare sent customers scurrying and prompted a number of stores to go on lockdown. there was more than a fair share of anxiety at the mall tonight, all because of a false alarm. the alert brought both police and a real sense of urgency to the area. that alert came into abington police. the alert was there was a man with a gun. action news reporter jeanette

reyes is live at the mall tonight. what are the details here? >> reporter: well, jim, several incidents like this across the country in the last couple of weeks, no doubt people are on edge and are on alert. proof of that happened tonight when several calls came to police about a man inside of the mall with a gun. >> we received a 911 call of an individual armed with a gun at the mall. >> reporter: abington police say they got several calls from concerned customers at willow grove park mall about a man with a gun on the first floor. >> police responded to the scene and along with security searched the interior of the mall. >> reporter: they quickly responded and tracked down the man still walking around in the mall. they would soon realize the callers were mistaken. >> it was a rather large cell phone and at quick glance, it could be mistaken. >> reporter: the man was completely unaware police were hunting him down, but he was cooperative and given the state of violence on the public in

recent weeks, police say false alarms like this will happen. just this month alone, bombs have gone off in new jersey and new york and were called acts of terrorism by state officials. before the country could process that, there was an isis-linked stabbing spree at a minnesota mall. nine people were stabbed there before an off-duty police officer shot and killed the suspect. days later and several states over a gunman would shoot and kill five people at a washington state mall. >> it is important for people to be vigilant on this day and age, and we do appreciate them when they see something they consider suspicious they do call us. >> reporter: -- >> jeanette reyes reporting from willow grove. 51-year-old angela bingham was charged with murder in the death of her 3-year-old grandson. delaware state police responded to a home on skinner lane in felton this afternoon after the 51-year-old called 911 saying she had killed the boy. state troopers found the child's decomposing body in a bedroom.

bingham was charged with first degree murder and is being held without bail tonight. three people including a child have been rushed to the hospital after a head-on crash this evening in delaware. it happened at 5:00 on sunset lake road. rescue workers had to cut the victims out of their crushed vehicles. a five-year-old girl was airlifted to the hospital where she remains in critical condition. two other adults were taken to on the hospital in serious condition with head injuries. this the scene tonight at 7:00 in lower merion after a car slammed into a house. police are working to determine why the car ran off the road, crashed through a fence and ended up against the home on haverford and remington. the driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition. >> i believe that we will win. hands up, don't shoot. >> faith-based groups from philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs assembled outside the

fraternity -- fraternal order of police headquarters in northeast philadelphia tonight for a peaceful protest. the group held signs and chanted demanding an end to what they call police brutality in philadelphia and across the country. >> we're here to make our voices heard to advocate on behalf of those who are literally being murdered by the police. >> civil affairs officers were on hand to make sure everybody's first amendment rights were being protected. the f.o.p. lodge sent out refreshments to the protesters. philadelphia police say a three-day operation put dozens of dangerous criminals behind bars. during the mission in north philadelphia, investigators confiscated drugs including marijuana, oxycontin and cocaine worth almost $60,000. officers also recovered $17,000 in cash and made 50 arrests. it was one violation too many for philadelphia parking authority chief vince fenerty. he's been suspended with the

intent to fire as claims surface from a second woman of alleged sexual harassment. fenerty was disciplined over an incident last year. he was ordered into counseling, but critics weren't impressed. >> despite these restrictions they put on his job, well, he's still getting paid his full salary, despite those restrictions, you can be assured he's going to do it again. >> in light of the new complaint dating back to 2006, the chairman of the parking authority board told action news he can no longer defend ferty keeping his -- fenerty keeping his job. donald trump is back on the campaign trail after the most watched president sthal debate in history last night. tonight trump drew 9,000 people to a rally in florida. arriving from his private plane, he told the crowd of supporters he held back since rival hillary clinton not wanting to embarrass her or her daughter chelsea who was in the audience. trump also doubled down on his support for stop and frisk and

tried to relitigate many of the points he tried to make in the debate that fact checkers debunkt. meanwhile, hillary clinton took what amounted it a victory lap today after most analysts and opinion polls rated her debate performance the winner. she was all smiles in raleigh, north carolina, urging supporters to register to vote and then turn out in november. clinton needled her opponent again over what she called his lack of preparation for the debate. in philadelphia today, vice presidential -- vice president joe biden told the university students trump's debate comments last night made him angry. biden said the republican nominee showed his callous nature by explaining it was "good business to take advantage of the housing crisis that hurt so many americans" and by saying that not paying federal taxes makes him smart. tomorrow, first lady michelle obama carries the torch for hillary clinton at lasalle university.

and there's been no evidence ever put forward that i did. >> cristie hasn't been charged. one of his former staffers, bridget kelly and transportation executive bill baroni are the defendants accused of orchestrating the lane closures at the bridge. relief could be on the way for drivers who are routinely stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the schuylkill expressway. today, penn dot and septa announced an improvement plan to help ease the congestion between king of prushia and philadelphia. as part of the 125 million dollar plan, new electronic signage would allow or officials to adjust the speed limit based traffic and weather. penn dot will trans form the shoulders into the interstate into part-time travel lanes. that won't start until five years. septa plans to add larger-capacity trains to take traffic off the roadway. philadelphia's walnut lane

bridge is back opened tonight after nearly six months of construction. crews wrapped up the road work this afternoon in east fols. the 109-year-old span closed in april so penn dot could install a new concrete deck and new sidewalks. more than 16,000 cars use this bridge every day. lasalle university is trying to make a loud statement to high school students trying to decide where to go to college. lasalle is slashing its tuition next year but beware, you have to look twice to get an accurate view of what lasalle will actually cost. live on the lasalle campus tonight is action news reporter cristie. >> reporter: if you're a parent or a student, this might make you want to loosen your purse strings. new $28,000 price tag is a welcomed change to many people we spoke with but not everyone is entirely sold. >> is tuition affordable for you right now? >> with scholarships, yes. >> reporter: for many students,

next year, lasalle university will be. the catholic school is slashing tuition from just over $40,000 to $28,800. >> i could help my family's financial needs. it's terrific actually. >> a lot of families and students are walking away from the table because the sticker prices are too high. >> reporter: the price difference is around $11,000. students won't save anywhere around that number as room and board will increase and the amount of school financial aid given out will decrease. >> the average savings a student will see is $1,000 or so but every student will have a smaller bottom line next year than they would have had if we'd done business as usual. >> my scholarship is still lowered, so i'm still paying the same price. >> reporter: you're not necessarily sold on this? >> no, not really. >> reporter: pauline and other students got this e-mail today explaining the change. >> it's going to equal out over all. we're paying less but the scholarships get lowered like financially. >> reporter: but the markdown helps make the university more competitive. this year's full-time undergraduate enrollment is just

of an ugly crash tonight that sent two people to the hospital. this is the way it looks on the roosevelt boulevard near pratt street in the oxford circle section of the city. one driver has been taken to einstein medical center.

a second has been taken to temple. we do not have word on their conditions but as you can see, a nasty crash tonight in oxford circle. criminal activity may be behind the deadly explosion in the bronx this morning. it killed a high-ranking new york firefighter. debris flung from the blast, struck battalion chief michael fahey, father of three and described as a rising star. nine other firefighters and six police officers are among 20 people who were hurt. a person of interest is being questioned whether propane tanks were being used in the row home for a marijuana growing operation. a heat wave and dry conditions are fueling a fast-moving wildfire in northern california. crews dropped fire retardant from planes today because ground crews simply cannot reach the blaze. two houses have been destroyed. officials say another 300 homes could be in jeopardy. officials in iowa are closely watching a temporary flood wall protecting a swollen

river from damaging thousands of homes and businesses. the cedar river crested this evening after days of heavy rain. more than 10,000 residents have evacuateed. the floodwaters are expected to recede by the end of the weekend but it's a long time between now and then. health check at 11:00 tonight, a new report shows that the number of americans who admit to drinking heavily is significantly higher now than it was a decade ago. researchers at the cdc looked at national data and found that 25% of adults admit to having at least one hevesi drinking day -- heavy drinking day within the past year, a 10% increase from the last 10 years. binge drinking is linked to a host of health problems including liver disease. tyson foods is voluntarily recalling more than 130,000 pounds of cooked chicken nuggets. the recall comes after customers reported finding hard, white plastic in the chicken. the five pound bags are panko

chicken nuggets. they're sold at costco stores across the country with the used-by date of july 18th, 2017. . >> phil:-based -- philadelphi philadelphia-based discount chain 5-blow is moving its headquarters. 1818 market street to 701 market street. with the move comes an expansion which is expected to bring more than 150 new jobs to the city of philadelphia. a new york firm hopes to be the first in the world to install skill-based slot machines in three atlantic city casinos. it's called gameco, that's the company. it says it could be ready to deliver the machines to caesar's owned cass seasonnos as soon as next week. -- casinos as soon as next week. new jersey gambling regulators have to approve them. the company says the better the player is at playing this game, the more money that player could win. not a game of chance necessarily

satellite 6 along with action radar showing we're in between systems. the cold front that rolled through early this morning brought us a quarter inch of rain. that's now shifted to the east. now all of the focus is on this cut-off low spinning over the great lakes and it's been beginning to drop down to the south. this will bring us the clouds, periods of rain and also windy weather especially on thursday and friday. tomorrow, pretty nice day. kind of the opposite of today. tad, we started with the clouds and ended with the sun. tomorrow, we start with the sun and when -- rain will hold off until dinner time. mainly west. ahead of it, decent conditions. philadelphia 75 degrees. normal high for this time of the year is 74. allentown, 74. cape may, 73. wilmington, 75 degrees. then we get into an unsettled weather pattern wednesday evening through friday. there's a low-pressure system dropping through the great lakes over kentucky. it'll essentially stall there. we still have a pretty strong high pressure off of quebec.

a moisture fetch will produce the rain. how much rain depends on where you are. northeast of philadelphia, probably about a half inch but then more rain as you get progressively to the south and west. areas around lancaster could get more than three inches of rain and also with that wind tunnel effect, we're looking at wind gusts 35 miles per hour inland and down the shore up to about 45 miles per hour especially on thursday and friday. in the meantime, tropical satellite showing this area of disturbed weather about 250 miles east of barbados, this likely will become tropical storm michael. this is something we have to watch. spaghetti plot showing it heading into the caribbean through the weekend, warm waters and a lot of them showing it making a sharp right hand turn up towards the east coast of the u.s. by next week. that's something we'll definitely be tracking for you. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, closer range tomorrow, it clouds up during the day.
