suspect four blocks away. that's where police opened fire. it is wednesday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is a police involved shooting on the streets of philadelphia. tonight, the suspect is dead, his two alleged child victims are in the hospital. the stabbing happening in the 6200 block of hazel. the shooting of the suspect took place four blocks away. jeanette is live with the full story. >> reporter: jim, this could only be described as a chaotic and horrific night. police are wrapping up after being on scene several hours. a man going on a stabbing spree. we have two scenes, one suspect is now dead and two young victims fighting for their lives. police say the chaotic night started with a 911 phone call around 7:00 p.m., reported screams and gunshots out of this

home on has el avenue. >> they found an 8-year-old with significant injuries to the throat and abdomen area and also a 13-year-old with injuries as well. >> reporter: police say the suspect's 15-year-old daughter was the first to be assaulted when she was grabbed by the throat, then let go. her -year-old brother was slashed in the throat and stabbed in the chest. his 13-year-old friend was also stabbed. the suspect was gone by the time police arrived. >> they got his name, information and what area he may have been headed to on cobb street. >> reporter: he walked a quarter mile to this home on cobbs creek. >> this is actually a family house. he was detained there. for whatever reason, he was heading to that home. might have been to get something to eat. for whatever reason, he snapped on these ladies as well. >> reporter: he slashed a 70-year-old and punched a

40-year-old on scene. police arrived and believe the suspects victims are suffering from gunshot wounds. >> the male comes out. he is confronted by police. he's got his hand in his pocket. they tell him several times to take his hand out. he abruptly takes his hand out and they fire multiple times striking him. >> reporter: this is video of the suspect being taken to the hospital where he would later die. back at the scene, police set down dozens of evidence markers and spend two hours scouring the area for a gun, pulling out a ladder to search the roof of the home. >> we are searching the scene to see if we can find a gun. we have not found a weapon. >> reporter: at this point, the gun was ultimately not found. police were not able to confirm whether or not the suspect had a gun. they will return tomorrow to continue searching.

the two adult victims are said to be okay. the dad may have been high on drugs. that has not been reported live by police. channel 6 "action news." jim? >> thank you. we learned tonight a blind man died in a bizarre accident on the broad street subway line. the 53-year-old victim stumbled on a platform at the race vine stop, hit a pole and fell on the tracks where he was struck by a plane. he was pronounced dead at the scene. it unfolded at 4:30 and prevented the subway from running two hours between fair mount and city hall. prosecutors say the death of a 2-year-old bucks county man was no accident. his father faced a judge for charges of involuntary manslaughter. nobody is suggesting he meant for his son to die. the 26-year-old left out his

loaded .45 caliber handgun that the little boy shot himself with. a tragedy the d.a. says was 100% avoidable. get ready for days of rain. accuweather says we are in for a stretch of on again, off again conditions. fall has arrived. cecily tynan is following it all with storm tracker 6 live double scan right now. >> what a change in the weather pattern of a hot, dry summer. we are getting waves of rain. double scan live showing what i'm tracking is batches of heavier rain working through virginia and maryland. it's moving into delaware right now and lifting slowly up to the north and expanding to the west. this will bring us heavy rain in the overnight hours. the overall pattern showing the cut off low spinning over ohio is drifting to the south tomorrow and then friday. that will bring us more unsettled weather.

last year. the final straw was when claims surfaced of a second women from an incident dating back to 2006. politics now. hillary clinton in philadelphia today. first lady michelle obama told a crowd of students that, quote, we need an adult in the white house. mrs. obama says the democratic nominee possesses the experience and temperament required for the job. her republican rival, obama said, donald trump, has already shown his true colors and will not change his tune if he wins the election. the first lady told the young adults, they must vote because this close race could be decided by millenials. hillary clinton was with bernie sanders today. clinton is trying to connect with the millenials. clinton and sanders touted their plan to make college debt free

for middle class and low income students. said sanders today, it is imperative we elect hillary clinton as our next president. donald trump held rallies in iowa and wisconsin today. trump continued to declare himself the winner in monday night's debate, even though members of his own party and his own team tried to tell him he missed opportunities and needs to do better in the second debate 11 days from now. trump hammered away at clinton saying, quote, if she ever got the chance, she would put the oval office up for sal. nixon died at the age of 93. if you don't recognize her name, chances are you recognize the name of her creations, "all my children" and "one life to live." christie ileto is live with more on the death and life of this true television pioneer. generations of people remember coming home to watch

kelly ripa and mark set on the set of "all my children." actress susan lucci posed on instagram, the loveliest of women rest in peace. walt disney chairman and ceo called her a television pioneer and someone i was proud to call a friend. he worked with nixon early on in his career. he said agnes' impact on daytime television and pop culture is undeniable. she chose relevant topics and characters she brought to life. she left an imprint on television that will be remembered forever. many of nixon's shows are now syndicated. she passed away from pneumonia battling parkinson's disease. jim? >> thank you. a political icon was honored

in center city philadelphia. she died after suffering a massive stroke two weeks ago. she was once israel's prime minister, most recently the president and held every position. he won the nobel peace prize. paris was 93 years old. the brave and heroic deeds of these men were recognized tonight in a special ceremony. the township police department awarded nearly a dozen accommodations and awards during the township meeting. they included everything from life saving intervention to years of service. coming up on "action news" tonight, a breakthrough device just approved could make diabetes easier to manage for millions of people. police say the alleged elementary school shooter in south carolina committed more crimes. gas prices may head higher because of something that hasn't

override the veto of the 9/11 legislation. the override votes were overwhelming. it means families of 9/11 victims will be able to sue the country of saudi arabia in american courts for allegedly backing the attackers. 15 of the september 11th hijackers were saudis. the head of the cia is concerned how saudi arabia will interpret the detail since it survived and they provide the u.s. with a lot of information to help foil plots from extremists. president barack obama ordered 600 additional troops into iraq. they will deploy in the coming days. there are 145 boots on the ground. the pentagon says more troops are needed to train and advise iraqi forces to retake moe sul from isis. gas prices at the pump will likely be going up because of a

here is meteorologist cecily tynan. >> heavy rain is moving in. the live double scan showing philadelphia is a mist. there is heavier rain moving across sussex county, delaware. it's moving into cape may, new jersey. we had lightning associated with this, most over maryland. this is lifting to the north. this will bring heavy rain overnight. temperature wise, we are stuck in the 60s. we are going nowhere. temperatures holding steady. philadelphia 62. allentown and redding, 61. action radar showing the main weather maker is a cut-off low. you can see the spin over the ohio valley. that will sink overkentucky, stall there and eventually move up to the north. what it will do is pull in the moisture from the atlantic. it will bring out rain. get your kids into rain jackets. mine don't like to use them, but

you will need them tomorrow. showers and drizzle. 61 by 8:00. future tracker showing not looking at the heavy rain in the morning. by 9:00, the heavy rain tapering off to showers. we are stuck in the clouds and the showers all day long. at 5:00, still wet out there. another wave of heavier rain moving through on friday. more clouds, more showers as we head through the day on friday. this weather pattern is sticking around into the weekend. expected rainfall. this is a good thing. we are looking at a good soaking, one to two inches across the area. areas to the west and southwest, looking at the potential for two to four inches of rain coming over a large period of time. areas of two to four could have localized flooding from that system. tropical storm matthew was formed this morning, winds 60 miles per hour. this is moving west to more
