from abc news, this is "world news now." good morning, i'm diane macedo. >> i'm kendis gibson. >> we begin this morning with new details in the school shooting in south carolina. a 14-year-old boy is in custody accused of opening fire on students. >> three people were injured in the shooting. one of the victims, 6-year-old jacob hall, in critical condition this morning. the family released this photo saying they appreciate the thoughts and the prayers. >> now police say the accused shooter killed his father at their home before going to the school. the motive so far is a mystery. abc's elizabeth hur have more. >> reporter: a south carolina elementary school, from the ground and on the roof. responding to reports of a gunman opening fire at the school's playground. >> move that patient towards the chopper. >> reporter: wasting no time, asking parents to pick up their

children at a church nearby. >> it's not every a situation -- >> it's a scarry event. just, you don't think anything like this would ever happen around here. >> reporter: officials revealing the outcome could have been much worse if not for the quick action of the first responders rushing to the scene when the calls for help came in at 1:45 in the afternoon. >> when officers got there, they end countered the fireman that had actually contained the suspect. what we understand is that this individual went in, pulled in the parking lot with a vehicle and probably got out of the vehicle firing immediately. >> he wants to remain humble and quiet about it and did nothing that any of the other volunteer firefighters wouldn't have done. >> reporter: now the search for answers with investigators so far confirming the 14-year-old alleged shooter in this case is a suspect in the shooting death of his father, 47-year-old jeffrey osborn, just two miles from the school. >> there was a relationship between the victim and the

shooter. this appears to be the victim's son. >> reporter: the school will remain closed for the rest of the week as investigators continue to look into a motive and why the school was targeted since officials say the suspect was home schooled. elizabeth hur, new york. now to washington and a major defeat for president obama's congress overrides the first veto of his administration. both chambers overwhelmingly reversed the president's blockage of a bill that will now allow 9/11 victims' families to sue saudi arabia. five of the hijackers as you may recall were saudi nationals. the role in the attack has never been prooup. a stopgap bill to prevent a government shutdown is on the way to the president's desk. republicans also promised to send money to flint, michigan later this year to deal with that city's water crisis. the bill keeps the government

operating at least through december 9. donald trump is hitting hillary clinton hard from the campaign trail at some of his own aides expressing disappointment, and saying clinton would put the oval office up for sale. >> reporter: donald trump's campaign admitting real missed opportunities at that first debate, but on stage in iowa, trump sounding confident as ever. >> you know, we had to debate the other night, and every single online poll had me winning by sometimes a landslide for. >> reporter: polls, unscientific, and behind the scenes in trump tower, senior campaign sources acknowledge trump should have been better prepared, that they should have held mock debates, that they should have been ready for questions about women, and about his discredited effort to prove president obama was born outside the u.s. >> i think i did a great job. >> well, just listen to what you heard. >> reporter: trump, one source said, believed the birther issue was, quote, well within the

>> reporter: millennials overwhelmingly supported sanders in the primaries, partly because of his progressive message -- >> a nation based on social cents, economic justice, racial justice -- >> reporter: partly because of his app nti-establishment views. >> it is time for a political revolution. >> reporter: millennials are a huge group if you can get them out to the polls. roughly 30% of the electorate. in 2012, under 25s counted for a bigger share of the electorate than latinos. now that their candidate is out, it's not clear that clinton is an acceptable second choice. >> if it came down to tomorrow, i don't even know who i would vote for. >> i will probably end up voting for clinton. i mean -- >> lesser of two evils? >> exactly, yeah. >> reporter: are you going to vote?
