and out of hoboken. we are joined live now by the train station in hoboken with the latest information. good afternoon ray. >> reporter: the hoboken train station is behind me and there is a host of multiple law enforcement agencies here on this active scene. we have learned there are mutt pel critical injuries and abc news learned that at least one person has died. >> a major train accident in hobok hoboken, new jersey left more than 100 people injured. a transit train crashed into the platform leaving multiple passengers trap and damage to the station. the heart of the rush hour, authorities say the passenger train failed to stop at the hoboken terminal continuing to crash through the platform. >> i observed it at a high rate of speed and through the bumper block and through the air and came another 40 feet and came to

a rest. the force of the crash took out a support beam causinging a part of the roof to collapse. >> i look to the left and see all of this metal on the ground and pipes burst and water flowing everywhere. >> most passengers are treated at the scene while those more seriously injured are transported to the hospital. >> people in the front row were badly injured and they started yelling when they saw the blood. >> commuters are being evacuated from the terminal. all new jersey transit service into the hoboken station has been suspended. >> a new jersey transit spokesperson tells abc news that the train pulled into the station as a high rate of speed. the spokesperson says that the normal speed is 5 miles per hour. ntsb officials are on their way here. back to you. >> thank you. survivors and witnesses were the

first to report the crash on social media this morning. even before officials confirmed and they are sharing incredib considerable images of the wreckage. >> reporter: they are harrowing images. the word came from the witnesses firsthand the people right on the front lines here from that station in hoboken, they tweeted pictures and videos and photos. corey posted this image saying i am on the train, but i am all good. >> you see the station collapsing and some of the images show people covered in blood. caitlyn mccabe shows us the crash site here. you see the roof collapsing in this station there in hoboken. and this picture here she is inches away from where the train

made contact with the station. there were mass injuries there and she too is okay. but using twitter as a tool to be able to share that information with friends and family. leon shows us the aftermath in photos like this one where you see the roof collapsing and the first responders on the scene here and tweeted out thisvy where you see the incredible damage inches from where it happened. and in this shot here he too is okay and shaken up and a lot of people looking at this image now because the station is closed. they have evacuated it. these in many cases are the firsthand look at exactly how this all unfolded. this image back here now, from noah, he said the train collapses and the roof collapsed. he walked in just as it happened. he hasn't exactly been able to process it yet. there are a lot of emotions,

through much of the commute and cloudy and windy and as you take a look at stormtracker 6 live double scan, it's still damp, drizzle on the terrace but another band of rain is pushing over cape may county and into atlantic city before too much longer. you already have some rain there, but when you get into the yellow it gets steadier. and we'll be in and out of rain drops and showers similar to what you see on radar as we go through the rest of the afternoon and evening. obviously once that next batch of rain comes through we'll find ourselves in another bit of a lull when it picks up again. we have heavy rain particularly to the south and west of philadelphia in the overnight and early morning hours. a flash flood watch is posted into late tonight, up and down the state of delaware and back over the eastern shore of maryland and beyond. that is because we have gotten 1 to 4 inches of rain in those areas and more is possible as we go into the day and night.

and strong wind gusts rolling into atlantic city and cape may up over 30 miles per hour, a current gust up over 30 as well in philadelphia. as we go through this afternoon and this evening, the wind may pick up more, i can see 45 miles per hour gusts at the airport and maybe 35 or so in philadelphia. as a result of that on shore wind and the lunar high tide that hits tomorrow we are looking at a coastal flood warning between 6:00 tonight and 1:00 a.m. with high tide 7:00 until 9:00 tonight along the ocean front and after midnight in the upper delaware bay and delaware river and closer to wilmington and places like that. minor coastal flooding. i'll have future tracker 6 showing how we think this rain will evolve with another heavier round arriving tonight into tomorrow morning. all the details coming up. >> thank you david. of course you can track the rain with 6abc.com/weather, you can

see the stormtracker 6 live double scan radar and the seven-day forecast and interact with our meteorologists on facebook and twitter. we are learning more about the man behind a violent crime spree in west philadelphia. he was shot and killed by police after stabbing children even his own daughter. annie mccormick is joining us live. >> reporter: two children remain in critical condition, an 8-year-old and a 13-year-old. police say that the suspect is known to them and that his daughter said that she believed he was on drugs and police say during the violent rampage there were multiple reports that the suspect had a gun. >> he was not like himself, normally he was calm. i spoke to him a few times. i had no idea he would do this. >> he is talking about the suspect in last night's cam page, here in the 6200 block of

hazel, the suspect attacked his 15-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son and his son's 8-year-old friend. >> the daughter did say he was home and all of a sudden his eyes are like live, and there is no conversation and he starts to choke her and immediately stabbed and slashed the 8-year-old and turned to the 13-year-old and stabbed him multiple times. >> during the ordeal there were reports that the suspect had a gun. >> molly lives across the street and saw the suspect and heard a commotion. >> around there he ran over there and then back in the house. it was so much commotion going on. >> the suspect ran a few blocks away from a family friend's house at cobb's creek parkway. >> he immediately grabs a knife

and actually slices the 17-year-old and the 41-year-old intervened. when the suspect emerged commissioner richard ross gave this account. >> the male comes out and is actually confronted by police, he has got his hand in his pocket and they tell him several times to take his hand out and abruptly takes his hand out and fire multiple times and striking him. >> investigators spent hours scouring all the scene and police did not recover a gun but knives were found at both scenes. six to eight officers fired their weapons and they will all be forwarded to internal affairs that is protocol. the 70-year-old woman we are told remains in critical condition. recording live outside of chop, annie mccormick, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. the search is on this noon

and we are continuing to follow breaking news out of hoboken, new jersey, at this hour. a commuter train crashed into the rail station, killing one person and more than 100 other victims were injured. the train came into the station at a high rate of speed and was not equipped with positive train control, the technology designed to slow speeding trains. and federal investigators are now heading there as well. we'll have more in our next half hour. three people including three students are recovering after being shot on a playground in south carolina. it happened in townville, the shooter a 14-year-old boy is in custody. according to police he shot a teacher in the shoulder and two young students in the leg and foot. volunteer firefighter jaime brock was the one that tackled the suspect to the ground.

>> he is a proud member of the townville fire department and did nothing that other firefighters would not have done. >> the teen also gunned down his 47-year-old father just miles from the school. no word on the charges he would be facing. from our delaware newsroom. memorial services begin for one of the two wilmington firefighters killed in the line of duty. investigators have not found the cause of saturday's fire. public viewers are scheduled for tonight for senior firefighter jerrifickes, a public memorial service for leash begins on saturday at the chase center. >> the body of former prime minister and president of israel, shimon peres is lying in state. he died of complications after having a stroke. he was 93. funeral services will be held

we have cloudy skies overhead and the camera bouncing down the shore and we are looking at a windy day and winds gusting down the shore as high as 40 miles per hour later and cape may right now picking up some steady rain. it's highlights in yellow and orange. that is double scan live radar's way of showing you it's coming down enough to back up some roadways. this is lighter rain in hammonton and glassboro, if you get heavy bands it could back up the roadways. temperature at 69 degrees and winds are up there. this is a sun stained wind 20 miles per hour now. and low to mid-30s is possible for the majority of the afternoon. 65 in philadelphia, 60 in trenton and 61 in allentown and 66 in cape may.
