from abc news, this is "world news now." >> so sad. >> his nose pressed up on the glass. how adorable. good morning, i'm diane macedo. >> i'm ryan smith. great to be here. thanks for having us, and, you know, tough day today. hurricane matthew really brewing in the caribbean and closing in on haiti as we speak. >> residents stocking up, and the dangerous category 4 storm moving in closer with sustained winds at 145 miles per hour. the u.s. military already taking action with 700 spouses and children of service members in cuba already have been e evacwapted to florida. the storm is spinning northward, and jamaica is bracing for the worst. >> reporter: here in kingston, jamaica, the first bands moved in, we saw the heavy rain, and we've seen flooding, even within just half an hour of it starts to rain.

incredible flooding here. the real concern is actually now in haiti because now it looks like the worst of the storm is going to hit that island, which, of course, ravaged that by that earthquake if ten, still recovering, and now they will be hit potentially with that major storm. what they are concerned about now are mud slides, and the major rainfall in haiti, and, in fact, the rain is more a threat than the wind. we're going to be watching that. the state department has now warned all americans to get out now, saying time is limited for a safe departure. abc news, kingston, jamaica. >> and matthew is now the strongest hurricane in the caribbean in nearly a decade. >> accuweather's paul williams has more. good morning, paul. >> good morning, ryan, diane. matth matthew, a category 4, expected to stay a 3 and 2 moving parallel to miami. when that occurs next week, we expect rough surf, rough rip

new jersey. one. two event recorders on board was not working the day of the accident. investigators have not reached the second box or train camera in the wreckage. ntsb spoke with the train's engineer, and he doesn't remember the impact. this is what he recalled immediately before. >> he said he looked at his watch and noticed his train was six minutes late arriving at hoboken. he said that when he checked the speedometer, he was operating at 10 miles per hour when entering the station track. >> the crews are working around the clock to remove debris from the crash site in hopes of getting underneath the train. donald trump on the defensive after leaked tax returns shows he claimed a loss of more than $900 million in 1995. he may have legally avoided paying federal income tax for nearly two decades, but the highest profile supporters call him a genius. here's mary bruce. >> an object surprise for donald trump -- >> you don't learn much from tax

washington. well, police in washington, d.c. are looking for a man who vandalized donald trump's new luxury hotel in broad daylight. a man caught on security camera saturday afternoon spray painting black lives matter and no justice, no peace on the building, but he got away before police arrived. it was later covered up plywood. the roughly 9 million residents a few hundred are catholic, and the pope commended it as a police of religious tolerance. he spoke about transgender catholics saying jesus wouldn't turn them away, and priests should akpoen them spiritually, not abandon them and touched on the u.s. elections saying catholics should vote with a conscious. major security scare for kim kardashian. the reality tv star held at gunpoint by two masked men dressed as police officers. a spokesman says she was not harmed but badly shaken.

9th, sunday. another big story this morning, hurricane matthew, a powerful storm moving towards extremely vulnerable areas. 145 miles per hour winds move closer to haiti, residents stocking up on the essentials. forecasters say some areas of highty could get up to 40 inches of rain, but they are under a warning now, and heavy rain already caused localized street flooding. it's moving slowly, and that's not good news for flood prone areas. this is a dramatic scene in jamaica, a water spout spinning out there. see that right there? that caption sums it up, saying, quote, it's time to evacuate the beach, i reckon. >> i'd say so. >> in the coming days, matthew could impact the u.s. east coast as well. >> paul williams, good morning. >> good morning, ryan, diane. matthew's impact, jamaica, eastern cuba, as well as haiti. extensive wind damage, power outages, flooding, and mud

slides along a devastating storm surges from the storm. keep in mind, looking at a category 4 this morning, and by tuesday, still at least a category 3, and then as it crosses by cuba going towards florida, staying a category 3, and it's tricky as far as maneuvering on the east coast. ryan, diane? >> paul, thank you. family of a man shot and killed by the los angeles police demand the officers involved be named publicly. the 18-year-old died saturday, and investigators say he was shot after running from officers when they tried pulling over the car he was driving. they have not said whether he was armed, but investigators say a gun was found near his body. in california, a major earthquake warning in effect until tomorrow. the warning follows a series of small quakes deep under the sea located on the san andreas fault. the warnings arished by the governor's office once or twice a year. investigators looking into the crash from last week hit a a

setback. one of the two black boxes did not work the day of the accident and the engineer does not remember the crash. >> reporter: for the first itim, the engineer's account of what happened on the new jersey train full of commuters crashed kills one and injuries 114 others. >> he looked at the watch and noticed his train was 6 minutes lates arriving. he said that when he checked the speedometer, he was operating at 10 miles per hour when entering the station track. >> reporter: the 48-year-old engineer says he has no memory of the accident, only waking up on the floor of the cab. another setback in the search for answers? this event recorder recovered from the back of the train was not working. >> we want to get in and get the exact speed of the train. >> reporter: new jersey transit had been under investigation by the federal railroad administration for the past five
