leaning palm fleece the fierce winds. hundreds of tourists are riding out the storm at the luxury atlantis resort. all guests have been e evacuated to ballroom there, where they're sleeping overnight on the floor. evacuations and preparations are in full swing from florida to the carolinas. grocery stores are running low on food. gas stations are running out of fuel. more than 1500 flights have been chance. le ed aer already. >> reporter: this morning, florida is preparing for this. hurricane matthew, possibly the worst storm to hit the sunshine state in decades. it's already ripped through the caribbean. slamming into haiti. >> translator: everything in my house is wet. i've lost everything. the water took it. >> reporter: leveling towns in cuba. as it makes its way through the bahamas, matthew lets to the

u.s. the already faltle storm is strengthening over water. florida, georgia, and the carolinas have already declared states of emergency. residents are being forced to choose, evacuate or stock up. more than 1 million are being asked to leave their homes in florida. >> get out now. it could be the decision between life and death. >> reporter: south carolina is is expected to e evacuate half a million people. traffic there has been bump tour bumper as residents flee. >> we want you to evacuate. we don't want you to stay. >> reporter: those who do stay are scrambling for supplies, bottled water. >> i've been to three gas stations because they're out of dpas. >> we've been waiting about 30, 40 minutes. just getting fly plooi wooplywo. >> if you get an evacuation order, you always rebuild. you can always repair property. you cannot restore a life if it is lost.

over 100-mile-an-hour wind gusts. those purple areas. this will bend off to the north as we venture in toward the upcoming weekend. along with heavy rainfall topping eight inches on the florida coast. potentially a foot at the south carolina coastline. upwartds of 6 to 10 feet in daytona beach. potentially me andering out over the open waters late this weekend. it bears watch ppg the next several days. kendis, mara, back to you. this morning, we're getting a look at the devastation in haiti. >> look at this video on the coastal town of jeremy. the pilot who shot the footage says barely 1% of the homes are still standing. residents are cut off. there are fears those who survived may actually end up starving. aid is set to arrive in haiti today, courtesy of the u.s. military. some supplies were loaded at an

air base in honduras. they'll land in haiti this morning after a stop in the grand kamans. the united states has allocated $1.5 million in aid for haiti. also this morning, a government contractor is in federal custody. accused of using his top security clearance to steal highly classified information. the fbi raided the maryland home of harold martin iui where they say they found stolen documents from the national security agency. some of that is so sensitive, it would cause quote exceptionally grave damage if made public. the fbi believes martin stole critical computer codes. turns to the presidential candidate who is are gearing up for the next debate in three days. now that their running might maits have had their turn. donald trump is preparing by is
