>> a foot of rain left towns under water. rescue crews are going home to home looking for people who might be trapped. as predicted we appeared to dodge the worst of matthew, but the roads are wet. >> chris sowers is tracking rain and the remnants of matthew. >> reporter: some of the rain is coming down at a good clip this morning. driving into work it was terrible, rain coming down so hard it was difficult to see, especially with the car in me kicking up the spray. you can see the heavy rain stretching from new england southwestward into richmond, noon. there need changes in the path and projected track of hurricane matthew, assaults, but enough to bring -- subtle enough to bring the shield into the area. it's no longer a hurricane it's a large overall system something

you would see during the winter months. instead of this storm, actually for the last several days, the storm was forecasted to do a turn back toward the south and affect florida and the bahamas, later this week. the storm said i'm going to do like. it was to make a beeline. there's been a subtle change and we're seeing banged along south jersey and the delaware river. you can see the banged the delaware river -- banding, the delaware river florence, down into delaware. the farther west you go, you're too far west to feel the effects the storm system. downingtown, exton, not feeling the effect of the storm.

you can see rain on the camera there. 7:13, 62 degrees, sky6 live hd looking at the commodor barry bridge. the roads are wet out there, there was an accident on the schuylkill expressway on my way in, be careful if you're heading out this morning. >> reporter: part of the problem a lot of ponding on the roads. there wasn't too many people on the roads, rain coming down heavily you have water on the roads ways. we're seeing patchy fog, the leftover rain is coming down heavily at times and patchy fog starting to develop, as well. so let's flip it over to the radars and show you the latest here. these are the outer edges of what was hurricane matthew lifting as far north as the immediate philadelphia area. it started in the form. showers and it got steadier and steadier and steadier as the day progressed. most of heavier stuff moved in overnight. here's glassboro, delaware, right here. we have flash flood warning in

effect for kent county. they picked up two inches of rain expecting another inch. you see rain from atlantic city to cape may. another band from the delaware river from trenton to wilmington. take a look at the rainfall totals. again, this is in the last 24 hours. not too bad in philadelphia. close to an inch. the city of philadelphia is reporting .4 of an inch. it's south jersey where you're picking up the heavier totals. in between elmer, 1.3. middletown in delaware, 2.6. south of dover, 4 inches of rain. fortescue gandys beach area, 2. avalon stone harbor, 2 1/2. cape may and the villas, we're seeing 3, 4, 4 1/2 inches of rain. this is within the past 24 hours, you can imagine the kind of rain the folks saw down to the south where the hurricane came onshore.

rainfall totals, we have ponding on roads take it easy this morning. skies will brighten up a bit this afternoon. we'll have a gusty breeze. the afternoon looks really, really nice believe it or not. this is matthew, the center of the storm is off the coast of cape hatteras and working due east. it will pull this moisture with it. flash flooding for southern kent county. here's riverview, harrington, watch the areas that flood during a heavy rain event. low lying areas, smaller creeks and streams. we've seen a lot of water in the last 6 to ten hours. the remnants of matthew continue to work out to sea, it's lifting farther to the north, the center of the storm is right here.

the storm center is here, it will continue to pull east later this afternoon. take a look at the peak wind gusts over the last servitudes. several days, 155 miles per hour off the eastern tip of cuba. freeport, bahamas, 120. cape can a narve -- canaveral, 107. jacksonville, picked up rain on top of that. for us that is glancing blow. we're dodging a huge bullet. showers for south jersey, the delaware bay region, dry north and west, there's the cloud line right here, the clearing line will march east during the day,

everyone, 24:00 sunday morning, you're -- 7:24 sunday morning. you're looking at the remnants of hurricane matthew, that's dry air working in on the backside of the storm. the center of the storm is right there. remember the winds blow in a counter clockwise fashion around the storm always the works out to sea. eventually we'll work this dry air into the delaware and the lehigh valleys as the storm moves off the coast. that will happen this afternoon. it looks miserable this morning, but your neighborhood will look better once we get past lunchtime. there was a huge change overnight in the projected path of the storm. most of the models took the storm and wrapped it around. watch what the spaghetti plots are doing now, watch the sudden change. it's due east north of bermuda.

the sudden change got it north to new england. some locations picked up between 4 and 5 inches of rain on the delmarva. it was the 5th hurricane this season. cuba 155-mile an hour wind gusts. savannah, in just in just, 18 inches of rain. i-95 in south carolina closed in both directions. it's open now, but that's how severe the flooding was. >> sports the eagles go for 4-0 in detroit. ducis rogers and jamie apody are on the birds' beat. >> reporter: good morning, the eagles are rolling these days, they hope the bye week has not slowed them down. this afternoon, jamie apody is with the birds. >> reporter: i'm in detroit, that's canada, they play hockey there, over here it's about football. the eagles have arrived last time they were in town it was thanksgiving day they left with a 31 point loss, that left a

beneficial rain. the heaviest by far will stay there, delmarva, virginia beach. that area there, that's the area that will pick up the heaviest rain. storm tracker 6 live set it in motion for you, you can see the yellows extending northward into philadelphia and south ever new york -- south of new york city. i'll make a couple of zooms. note we have two bands one from trenton into wilmington along the delaware river another band in south jersey, surf city south to wildwood and cape may. we're zoomed into the philadelphia area first. jenkintown, route 1, crossing over delaware river into riverside, you can see the heavy rain indicated by the yellows and orangeses, there's route 30 in camden and burlington county. it's a slow go lots of ponding on the roads. philadelphia, moderate rain.

wilmington, same thing moderate to heavy rain is falling there's route 30 and 206. the steadiest is from 206 westward into city of philadelphia. the next zoom going farther to the south, jersey shore surf city through atlantic city and sea isle city and wildwood and cape may, moderate to occasionally heavy rain falling along 89 garden state parkway. slow go, route 47, delsea drive, cape may, ponding on roads, fortescue moderate to heavy rain. those areas have seen 2 to 4 inches of rain in the last 122018 hours or so. forecast for today. morning rain, lots of clouds expected, patchy fog, a miserable morning around the delaware and the lehigh valleys. we'll see skies brighten this afternoon turning windy and cooler, highs in the 60s. nydia.

nation because we're talking about the effect of sea water on the farmlands. >> reporter: where i am right now, the ebenezer baptist church, local leaders are meeting next saturday to arrange help if you want help, be here at that time. >> a fire in south jersey has badly damaged a home and sent a firefighter to the hospital. the action cam was at the scene 1,000 block of oak wood avenue in gloucester township, camden county. the fire broke out after 3:00 a.m., when firefighters arrived flames were shooting through the second floor, all of the residents managed to get out safely. it took 30 minutes to get the fire under control. investigators are now looking for the cause. the firefighter who was injured is being treated for heat exhaustion and said to be in good condition. >> there's still much more to come on "action news" sunday. an award winning country music

atlantic city, wildwood and cape may. both bands are producing moderate to heavy rain at this point. look what's going on north and west, really the line set up yesterday afternoon they have not seen much of anything out here, the far western suburbs, whereas south jersey and delaware have seen more. not much rain here, you get into the green shade you're talking at least an inch of rain in philadelphia. smyrna, 2.6. let's drop this farther to the south. you get into kent and sussex county in delaware. milford and dover, 4.2. 6 inches southwest of milford. you get into villas in the cape may area, they picked up over 4 inches of rain with the outer bands. we dodged a bullet overall, but you can see how heavy some of the rain was with hurricane

matthew. we missed out on all the heavy rain that caused all the flooding in the carolinas and southern portions of virginia. a lot of this is working out to sea now. there's the heaviest we have a little bit left over across areas east of baltimore and washington, d.c., the bulk of this is working out to sea. as the storm hits the coast and pushes east, the winds will pick up. right now they are out northeast they will switch out of the northwest this afternoon that dries everything out. we could see gusts as high as 45 miles per hour in all the counties you see highlighted there. the wind advisory is up to 6:00. the flash flood warning is in effect for kent county. 47 in the poconos, millville, 58. cape may, 59. satellite and radar showing the remnants of matthew, the center of the storm is just about there, east of cape hatteras, north carolina.

we're not dealing with storm surge or tornados. for the most part this is a shield of heavy rain working out to sea. drier conditions northwest. you can see how this will move over the next 24, 36 hours. the sustained shield is right there. over the next 24 hours, it's so far out to sea it's farther east than the island of bermuda this afternoon. 10:00 a.m., leftover showers for south jersey, clouds brightening across the western suburbs. philadelphia, cloudy, all areas south and east. 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., part of the viewing area picks up the sunshine. it's at that point that the temperatures take a nose dive. tomorrow morning, 39 in reading, 4 had in philadelphia. -- 44 in philadelphia. 48 in wildwood. it will be one of the coldest mornings we've seen so far this season. morning rain, afternoon sun, turning breezy and much, much
