the south getting into the delmarva, there's another band closer to the shore. we'll zoom to the one in philadelphia. route 1, jenkintown, philadelphia, moderate to occasionally heavy rain. lots of ponding on the roads, you need to allow yourself extra time take it easy on the roads this morning. lots of ponding and reduced visibilities out there. there's this band work it's way off the coast sea isle city to cape may. this band in particular is heavy. national weather service issued a flood advisory in effect for cumberland county and cape may county and southeastern portions of atlantic county because of heavy rain. look at the totals from yesterday afternoon to the present, cape may, 2.32-inch. dover, 1.3. philadelphia, 3/4 of an inch. cloudy and damp morning rain,

lunchtime skies brighten up, it's breezy and cooler this afternoon with the return of sunshine highs around 63. nydia? >> chris, thank you. this morning a delaware county mother is grieving the loss of her 20-year-old son who was shot and killed in front of her overnight. police were called to angle street in chester after midnight. that's where the young man was shot to death. the 20-year-old lives there with his mother and stepfather. a gunman entered the home and shot the man several times in front of his mother. police are looking for the gunman and a motive for the shooting. >> a south jersey firefighter is recovering after being hurt battling a blaze overnight. firefighters were called to oak wood avenue in gloucester township at 3 a.m. when they arrived flames were shooting from the second floor of the home. it took a half-hour to get the fire under control. a firefighter was taken to kennedy hospital washington township for heat exhaustion,

but listed in good condition. there were no other injuries. in the presidential race debate number two between donald trump and hillary clinton is hours away. dozens of top republicans have pulled their support for trump after vulgar comments were caught on camera. ron portman said his vote will go to vp mike pence, trump vows to stay in the race despite calls to drop out. >> anyone who knows me, know the words don't reflect who i am. i said it, i apologized. >> hillary has talked about free trade in wikileaks leaked

other people. when service resumes there will be a new rule in place, the conductor will be required to join the engineer whenever the pulls into the terminal. it was traveling twice the speed limit before it crashed into the station. hurricane matthew is being blamed for ten deaths in the united states including two people in north carolina swept away in their car by floodwaters. the storm is moving out to sea as the dumped a foot of rain on north carolina. flooding homes and businesses, 100 miles inland. dozens of people in the state had to be rescued from their cars. the storm has knocked out power to more than a million people in the southeastern section of the u.s. some residents in florida have returned to their homes to find them destroyed. >> hurricane matthew destroyed parts of island nation of haiti, that storm barrel a shore on tuesday with powerful 145-mile an hour winds. hundreds of people are dead and many more are homeless.

effect of hurricane matthew, a bald eagle had to be rescued after it flew into the front grill of a car. the eagles was unable to get free, the driver stopped and called for help. rescue crews freed the bird and put him in a cage and took him to a local wildlife sanctuary to make sure he is doing okay and get checked out. it's a beauty. >> reporter: i hope it's not a sign our eagles will be run over

in detroit today. >> no this happened in florida. >> reporter: let's talk about the wet weather in the delaware and the lehigh valleys. everything is football with me, especially this time of the year. let's go live on sky6 live hd. we're looking at the commodor barry bridge, wet out there, lots of rain. farther north you go we have clouds and damp conditions and patchy fog. let's flip it over to the radar. we have bands over philadelphia stretching southward and baltimore and washington, d.c. and one hugging the coast from surf city to cape may. some of the rainfall totals have been byes everybody. we'll zoom into south jersey, this is the outer band in trenton, all the way down to wilmington, and then there's this band right here, just off the coast this is actually working this way, so it should be moving onshore shortly. rainfall totals very, very impressive. take a look at this as i flip it

over to the doppler radar estimates. cape may county, 2.8 in dell haven and the villas. gloucester and camden counties in south jersey, 2 1/2 inches of rain. sussex county delaware, closing in on 5. ocean city maryland more than 6 inches. down in through here we just missed out not by much between 4 and 6 inches of rain on the delmarva. heavy stuff is out of our picture here, but we've seen our fair share over the last 24 hours. it started yesterday with a couple of showers around lunchtime. it got heavier and heavier as the day wore on. periods of heavy rain this is the last of it, outer bands of what was once hurricane matthew. there's the clearing line. once that pushes through, it will push through 11:00 a.m.

an accident during a fall cleanup event led to a man's death. emergency crews were called to the township station in lower merion. a 68-year-old man was unloading trash from a u-haul when he fell 45 into a refuge pit. the man was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. police arrested a man they say shot and killed two police officers in palm springs california. overnight police salute the their caskets as the procession was underway. other officers surrounded the home capturing the alleged shooter. police say the shooter opened fire while talking to the officers while responding to a family dispute. one of the officers killed had just returned from maternity leave. the other was a veteran of the force. >> i'm a wake in a nightmare right now. that's me, but you know what, as the chief of police i have to

police in fayetteville, north carolina came to the rescue of a mother and her baby stuck in floodwaters in hurricane matthew yesterday. police were driving around in military vehicle when they spotted the woman with the submerged car. the baby was in the car. the video shows the officers taking the crying baby. fayetteville airport received 13 1/2 inches of rain by yesterday afternoon. >> this is so beautiful. you can see the baby's face so well in the video and the family, so happy for them. >> reporter: fayetteville was one of the hardest hit areas, northern part of fayetteville picked up 17-inch of rain. that's a half year's worth of rain in one day. let's go outside sky6 live hd there's the view looking at the penns landing, the u.s.s. murtha

getting wet. we have rain many of us getting. as we flip it over to the radars, the heavy rain closer to the water. heavy band southward in wilmington and dover. we have a flood warning in kent county for the next half-hour or so. that will expire once the band pulls off the coast. you can see the tail end of the rain getting closer and closer to the city of philadelphia. we may not see rain for the next week. some of it is heavy at this point. there's doylestown, so this little band stretching down through new castle and kent county in delaware and working east. so the heavier band should get over salem, government and camden counties in south jersey probably within the next 45 health insurance or so. the center of the storm is off the screen here off the coast of the virginia capes and cape hatteras and pulling away

working to the east taking the moisture along with it. in the storm's wake once the canadian air settles in, these numbers will plummet overnight tonight. temperatures will top out in the low 60s. millville, 55. on top of the cooler conditions we have a gusty breeze out of the north, northwest, now, note the direction out of the northwest that's a dry wind flow for us. this will dry everything up this afternoon. gusting up to 36 miles per hour in millville. close to 40 in dover. 24 in cape may. mid 20s for the lehigh valley. national weather service issued a wind advisory for all areas shaded in the tan color. gusts as high as 45 miles per hour, especially down the shore where you're closer to the storm interior sections of the state of delaware and parts of delmarva, gusts could be stronger out of the viewing area. the remnants of matthew continue to work out to sea. there's the center of the storm

right about there. it's become extra tropical in nature meaning it has no hurricane characteristics any more. the storm is pulling away. we have a couple of more hours to go. the hurricane force winds it's that little dot around the center of the storm. these are tropical storm force winds. this is really a breezy day, this yellow shade here. look how quickly that work out, this is long gone and north of bermuda. wind gusts with the storm. it's very, very strong across the carribean. it made laferl in cuba -- in cuba. 155 miles per hour. cape canaveral in florida, 107. daytona beach, 90. jacksonville, 87 miles per hour. back home in the philadelphia area. 10:00 a.m., raining for the jersey shore.

we have bands near sea isle city and a cape may and atlantic city him there's kind of two areas of heavy rains this morning. let's zoom into philadelphia, you can see the yellows there's representing the steady driving rain from doylestown to philadelphia and wilmington and looks like chadds ford you're seeing moderate rain as well. coatsville, it's dry, downingtown, no longer raining, honeybrook in the clear right now. there's the tail end will get through the city of philadelphia in the next hour or so. flood advisory for cape may county and southern atlantic county this is one of the locations that picked up a tremendous amount of rain in the last 24 hours. we've seen doppler radar of 2 to 4 inches. if you're an area that floods during a heavy rain event monitor your surrounding closely as flooding is expected over the next couple of hours before things get better.

united states including two people in the north carolina who were swept away in their car by floodwaters. this morning the storm is slowlily moving out to sea as it dumps more than a foot of rain on north carolina flooding homes and businesses 100 miles inland. dozens of people in the state had to be rescued from their cars. that storm knocked out power to more than a million people in the southeastern section of the u.s. some residents have returned to their florida homes only to find them destroyed. of course in haiti it is a grim scene, local haitian leaders are organizing efforts to help residents of the storm crippled nation. many are having trouble reaching their relatives in haiti and fearing the worst. the death toll stands at 470. power is out over much of haiti. many homes were flattened by the powerful winds and the storm ruined many of their agricultural hubs.

it is coming down at times the outer what are called feared bands -- feeder bands, hurricane matt that you lashed out at the jersey shore. storm tracker 6 live double scan, we pretty much set it in motion for you here and again look at the banding, this is showing we're dry at this point. all these areas are in the clear now, honeybrook and coatsville and oxford. it will get through philadelphia in the next hour from that point on it continues to march east and closes in on the coast. here's the movement. again, this is a heavy band here. we have another heavy band for belmawr point pleasant beach to cape may, sea isle city, avalon, all the beachfront communities seeing wind and heavy rain this morning. right now looks like interior sections of south jersey picking up a little bit of a lull.
