the race to the white house runs through the philadelphia suburbs, a must-win area for both candidates. we talked to voters there on this monday morning, october 17th. from abc news, this is "worlds news now." good monday morning to you all. reaction to the fire bomb that ripped through a local republican office in north carolina. >> donald trump blames hillary clinton and democrats tweeting the office was targeted, quoting here, because we're winning. the bottle filled with flammable liquid was thrown through the office. all of this happening saturday night damaging the interior of the building along with furniture and trump campaign signs. a warning for republicans to get out of town was sprawled on a nearby building. >> this is a horrific, horrific act of political terrorism. one that we will not succumb to,

wednesday's debate, but she's facing growing questions over thousands of hacked e-mails posted by wikileaks. the e-mails believed to be from campaign chairman include transcripts of private speeches she gave to goldman sachs, giving a softer view than given in public. she has scripted advisers instructing clinton to laugh at herself. the clinton campaign neither confirmed or deny the e-mails. they said russian hackers are trying to influence the election and are to blame. a major battle against isis in underway in iraq. iraq's prime minister announced the liberation and said it's begun. mosul has been under isis control for more than two years and is the last major stronghold in iraq held by isis. ash carter describes it a decisive movement in the campaign to defeat the terrorist group. we are on the front lines with more from just outside mosul. >> reporter: tens of thousands

of troops massing for days near the city which is iraq's second biggest. we spent the day with kurdish forces here in the northern part of iraq. we visited several other bases that overlook both mosul and isis positions. every fighter we met was eager, even impatient to get the battle started and push isis out of mosul. this is their last stand. they lost all the other cities they took over in 2014, and the question now is whether they put up a big fight or try to slip away across the border into syria. the iraqi and kurdish forces are backed up by american and other international special forces advisers on the ground and u.s. led coalition is carrying out air strikes as well. the iraqi military dropped leaflets on the city telling residents to stay away from isis positions that will be targeted. around 1 million people are expected to flee the fooigting. the u.n. and other agencies setting up emergency camps to accommodate all of them in what the u.n. says could be the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world this year.

abc news, iraq. back in this country, two men in custody after a deadly gunfight in a party in los angeles.seeking more. three people killed, dozens wounded in a restaurant where a birthday party was held. witnesses described gunshots being mistaken for fireworks. suspects found after seeking treatment for their own injuries. police in lexington, kentucky have arrested a man in connection with the fatal shooting of the daughter of olympic sprinter. the 15-year-old was shot about 4:00 a.m. in the parking lot of a restaurant by her father. the teen was a track star at her high school. police say she was caught in the cross fire and are looking for other suspects. communities near lake tahoe face a double threat. firefighters work to gain control of a wildfire burning more than 20 homes. rainfall is helping those efforts, but now the rain is also creating new concerns about flooding. hundreds of structures are still threatened by the flames, and

some mandatory evacuations are in place. thousands of residents in washington and oregon are without power following a series of strong storms. winds at 50 miles per hour brought down trees all across the region. still, the storm ended up being weaker than forecasters expected. it seemed no one read any forecast before this high school football game friday night. it couldn't stop the raiders who beat the vike 27-8. not ideal. >> not, but loyal fans. >> absolutely. >> go crescent city. the national league championship series is tied at one game a piece after the dodgers beat the cubs 1-0. gonzalez homered in the second for the only run for los angeles there. it was pitcher kershaw shutting down chicago at home limiting cubs to a pair of singles over seven innings. the series moves to los angeles on tuesday. the american league series resumes tonight with cleveland

doomsday battle for western crusaders. the u.s. and britain say there's little desire for interventions but want sanctions against russia. the european union meets this week to keep up pressure on russia. emotions run high as nigerian schoolgirls were reunited with their parents after spending more than two years as hostages. 21 girls released from bok boko haram last week, but only reunited with their families on sunday. there were the first girls released after negotiations between the group and nigeria's government. nearly 200 are still captive. police in alaska ask for public's help to find a suspect wanted for shooting an officer. look at the dash cam video. it's pretty dramatic. from the officer's car it shows the suspect walking down the sidewalk and crossing to the officer's side of the car. another video shows the alleged

gunman walking away from the vehicle. police say he stole it and abandoned it blocks away after shooting the officer who was seriously injured. mourners gathered to pay respects to four people killed in an accident taking place saturday when a pickup truck plunged off a bridge falling into the middle of a festival. eva pilgrim has the details. >> reporter: the driver of this demolished pickup truck, a member of the u.s. navy, charged with four counts of vehicular homicide and manslaughter. >> sounded like gunfire, and then you seen the vehicle come down. >> the vehicle is on its side and it's going to roll back over. we need fire to brace the car. >> reporter: showing chaos and panic at a crowded fair in san diego after the truck flew off the bridge and plunged 60 feet on to a vendor and packed festival. >> when aarrived, they found the vehicle on its side, and on top of four individuals. >> reporter: police officers and

firefighters rushing to help the nine injured. authorities say the driver, 24-year-old richard anthony, seen here, treated at the scene, was under the influence when he lost control. >> no other thought that, you know, but what's -- what you see is somebody's got to be dead. >> reporter: he survived the crash and is in the hospital with serious injuries. he has not yet entered a plea. this crash could have been worse. the truck stopped feet from a stage where a band was playing. no word on how the injured are doing. abc news, new york. well, as expected, san francisco quarterback colin kaepernick continued the protest of the national anthem before his team's game in buffalo. kaepernick and two teammates knelt down during the anthem prompting bus from buffalo fans. kneels is his protest against racial inequality and police brutality. kaepernick questioned why his actions are regarded by some as
