66-year-old pilot and the 72-year-old passenger were trapped under the aircraft. >> thank god for the trees. it was able to protect everything. what day do you come home and there's a plane in your yard. >> reporter: the men semiunconscious, unable to communicate when they were extracted. >> it really looked like he wasn't too bad. i thought it was going to be a lot worse than it is. >> reporter: it took off in medford. the family that owns the plane says it's registered in maryland where they live. they rented it out to a man in delaware who intended to go flying with his friend. >> something went wrong with the airplane. typically, airplanes like this suffer from engine fall yur and that results in the off airport landings. >> reporter: aviation expert says the faa is looking at a number of factors including the

plane's mechanics. residents are grateful it wasn't worse. >> by the grace of god, everybody is okay. >> nothing but the grace of god with this one. >> reporter: now, the pilot and passenger were taken to cooper university hospital. the faa will get their opportunity to begin the investigation by looking at what's left of this airport. reporting live, christie ileto, channel 6 "action news." jim? >> thank you, christie. faculty at 14 pennsylvania state universities walked off the job this morning. contract negotiations between the pennsylvania state system of higher education and the faculty union hit an impasse. at issue, pay raises, increase cost of medical benefits. the strike kept 100,000 students out of class today. two philadelphia police officers fired after they say he refused to drop a rifle.

it happen d on the 6300 block after 6:00. officers responded to a domestic call. they arrived to find a 55-year-old man at the front door holding rifle. police say he ignored commands to put it down and pointed the rifle at them. that's when they shot the suspect in the arm. he was taken to the hospital, expected to be okay. a man in his late teens died after gunfire in west philadelphia. he was shot in the shoulder in the 3500 block of wallace street. he was rushed to penn hospital where he was pronounced dead. the search continues for three suspects at rittenhouse square. they are trying to come to grips with the sense of unease. let's go to the square with "action news" reporter, dann cuellar. dann? >> reporter: jim, residents and

to answer questions. she diverted to other topics. she did what she had to do. i don't think she necessarily moved the needle among suppo supporters but those uncomfortable with donald trump. she was the grown up in the room. >> do you think the people at home noticed those moments where hillary clinton didn't answer questions about the clinton foundation? >> there was one take away. i lost a close election in 2004. i didn't like the result but i accepted it. i think that's the big take away and a historic take away. a candidate of a major party is refusing to say he will accept the results of a democratic election. it's astounding. >> it's maddening. right out of the gate, hillary clinton was talking about the question about the supreme court and the abortion. fir thing, she talked about lgbt rights, women's rights, didn't talk unborn children.

there was a sense i was going la, la, la when donald trump talked about babies and hillary clinton said women's decisions. it fell apart when he refuses, jim said, when he refused to say i am going to accept and respect the will of the people. >> a lot of undecideds across the nation. a lot watching now. they are talking about the philadelphia suburbs as an area that could form a bellweather and show nationally how the election is going to go. do you think anyone in those communities, sam, saw anything tht debate that might make them go trump or clinton here? >> there's a concern in suburban philadelphia about where some women, largely preferring a republican candidate might end up voting for hillary. i think the issue of respect, which donald trump continues to trump as a great character.
