that turned a philadelphia neighborhood into a grim crime scene today. the person was wrapped in a blanket and set on fire behind laundromat in kensington. it is friday afternoon, i'm brian taff. >> and i'm monica malpass. sharrie is off today. we're learning more about the investigation surrounding this gruesome crime. "action news" reporter bob brooks on the scene all day for us and joins us now with the latest live. bob. >> reporter: brian and monica, just a gruesome discover he -- discover discove. i'm told residents it's become absolutely rampant with drug use. for hours this morning this al he lee off allegheny avenue was blocked off. lined that white barrier a body was found burned and wrapped in a blanket. a gruesome discovery that stunned and scared these neighbors. >> it can happen to somebody, me or my grandchildren. >> reporter: police say the investigation is going to take

some time. sadly there's not much left of the body. >> the number one priority is finding out the cause of death. once that's determined then we know which route to begin that investigation. >> reporter: those in this neighborhood add on top of being alarmed they're not surprised. they say this neighborhood is steadily getting worse. >> drug activity on the railroad has been doubled increased. i don't know if it's because they pushed it off of sommer street or tioga but we've had nothing but addicts and drugs. >> reporter: i'm look argue round and you do he see some of those things people are concerned about drug paraphernalia bags things like that. they don't want their kids to see this stuff. they use this route to walk to school and that's why they want it cleaned out. >> they need to cut all of this grass and get rid of all of this stuff so people can see what's going onism at this point detectives say they don't even know the gender of the person burned. that, too will take time. they want neighbors to know they're listening to their concerns about any growing problems. >> it's a situation where we

need to clean up that area, whether it's dropping down additional lighting in that area contacting streets department, whatever. we have those resources within the city. >> reporter: okay, another look here al he lee where the body was found. again it was burned and wrapped in a blanket. reporting live in kensington, bob brooks channel6 "action news." monica. >> thanks bob. the man known as the pacific pennypack park rapist will be spending time behind bars. prosecutors say palen beat and sexually assaulted three women. investigators found him three years later in wisconsin when dna from a rape he commit there had matched the evidence here. suspects wanted for stealing from the toys r us chain may be in the toms river area. police say this criminal couple has been targeting stores in new jersey and maryland. they have allegedly taken tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

investigators believe they may be using this car a four door cadillac. if you recognize them or know anything about the crimes please call police. >> a former top aide to new jersey governor chris christie testified in court today saying the governor was aware of plans to close lanes on the george washington bridge because she told him about it. former deputy chief of staff bridget kelly testified that she made the governor aware of a planned traffic study but she maintains it was not an act of political revenge. kelly who grew emotional while on the stand today also said she feared the governor because he had once 13 water bottle at her. christie has denied any knowledge about the lane closures and hasn't been charged. a former penn state assistant football coach took the stand today in his whistle blower and defamation lawsuit against that university. mike mcqueary claims the school retaliated against him for helping prosecutors convict jerry sandusky of child molestation. today mcqueary testified he saw sandusky sexually abuse a

boy in a team shower in 2001 and then he reported it to joe paterno and two school administrators. mcqueary says sandusky was allowed to continue using team facilities for years after that until he was charged with child molestation in 2011 but after sandusky's arrest mcqueary was put on paid leave and ordered to stay away from team property. he's seeking $4 million in damages. >> professors are marching the picket lines for a third straight day as state universities in pennsylvania. the faculty strike began after contract talks broke down. it is affecting more than 100,000 students including those at west chester where it is homecoming weekend. the football game will he go on because the coaches are part of a separate bargaining union. vernon odom will have a live report from campus for us at 4:30. >> now to a first check of the accuweather forecast on what promise to be the last of our summer-like streak here. fall is about to make a come back. >> nice while it lasted.

let's go outside to meteorologist adam joseph for the update. >> summer-like part of the entire school and work week is just about over but we are still extremely warm and in fact the warmest spot in the midatlantic. we have been at 79 degrees for the last three hours in philadelphia but that northwesterly wind is knocking on the doorstep and now pushing into western lancaster county. it's down to 64 in washington, 52 in pittsburgh and just 48 buffalo and binghamton. storm tracker6 live double scan will show there's a line downpours and a few thunderstorms in western lancaster county. this is slowly working from the southwest to the north and east and will continue to somewhat fall apart as it pushes in during the evening hours but there you can see some of those heavier downpours and again a rumble of thunder or two into lancaster baltimore as well as washington. so it's a friday evening. if you're heading out on the town it's dry at first but notice we go from the 70's at 7 o'clock to the 60's between 8 o'clock and 9 o'clock. 50's by 11 o'clock.

falling temperatures the winds kick up and also light showers will be passing through as well so we're going to notice a drop in temperature by 30 degrees by tomorrow morning. scattered downpours and some showers overnight tonight. winds will howl over 40 miles an hour throughout evening saturday and any breaks of sun will hold off until later on tomorrow afternoon. we'll talk about the damp start to the weekend and what it means for the second half. monica coming up in that full accuweather forecast. >> sounds good. thank you adam. turning now to the race for the white house. donald trump will be campaigning in bucks county in a few hours. right now he's holding a rally in johnstown, pennsylvania. earlier today he took a rare jab at michelle obama. the republican candidate accused the first lady of attacking hillary clinton in the 2008 primaries but complained about the amount of campaigning she's doing this year. trump also says he's adding even more events to his schedule so that he has no regrets on election day. in about a half hour hillary clinton will be at a get out the vote rally in cleveland ohio.

of the ideas they did not like but again, this strike that began at 5 o'clock wednesday morning is now over this afternoon and that involves 14 public state colleges across pennsylvania. we will continue to get the details and bring it to you as this newscast continues. >> if you had a problem loading certain web sites today, you weren't alone. a he key internet firm was hit by a cyber attack. impacting users up and down the east coast. a firm called den is still trying to figure out how it happened and who is responsible. they say the attack sent an overwhelming amount of information to their machines. twitter pay pal are major companies that experienced issues. den manages web traffic of those sites. >> wells fargo may be forced to close many of its branches as the fallout from its fake account scandal deepens. the bank is now under criminal investigation for allegedly pressuring employees to fraudulently champ -- charge

customers for accounts they never authorized. analysts say the mounting costs could require wells fargo to shut as many as a sickth of its locations. the bank lab ordered to pay 190 millions in fines. the dow slipping 16 points. about 16 and a half on the day. the nasdaq rising 15 and a half points, the s & p 500 off marginally just a fraction of a point today. >> new developments today in the fight to protect jewelers' row. developer toll brothers wants do replace several of the buildings on sansom street with a condominium tower today a historical commission panel voted to put three of those properties on the register of historic places possibly saving them from demolition. however today's decision is not final. it still needs approval from the full historical commission when it meets november 10th. >> turning once again to accuweather. it's been another beautiful day out there. >> gorgeous. >> yeah. >> really so pretty. some changes though coming.

it's not going to make most folks happy. let's go to add jam -- adam joseph. >> most of us still seeing sunshine but you can see he some heavy rain now pushing into downtown lancaster and it is raining fairly heavy at times here. there have been a couple of rumbles of thunder but really the dynamics with this with respect to some energy to produce lightning as really kind of waned here in the last half hour so no lightning strikes at the present time but very heavy rain in lancaster now on the edge of smithville and quarryville. notice this is working more from the south to the north and not very quickly from the west to the east so it's going to be a slow progression to see some of this rain push towards the city of philadelphia. but the temperature drop in lancaster as that rain and front is pushing in went down 12 degrees in the last hour, 67 now in lancaster. it's 77 in reading, 77 in wilmington. you can see the upper 70's across the majority of our area.

the exception beach haven cape may with that easterly wind a little bit cooler since the water temperature is only in the upper 60's. right now as we look at october, so far we're again more than halfway through the month, we're running 4 degrees above normal and precipitation we're down about an inch from that normal, so we can kick these temperatures down a little bit to get a little more fall feeling around here and also we need the desperately need some rain around here. we'll get a little bit of it tonight. again you can see some of that rain entering from the west. the clouds are about to push into parts of western chester county, eastern berks county and again we're not looking at thunderstorms overnight but it is going to be some scattered showers entering philadelphia, delaware, southern new jersey, lehigh valley by 9 o'clock tonight and notice the drop in at that into the 50's at that hour. we're all in the 50's by midnight starting early tomorrow morning it is a damp start to the weekend with temperatures only in the 40's. it is very late in the day at 5:00 p.m. maybe you get some sun returning from the southwest to the north and east so kind of a dreary day

tomorrow with highs only staying in the low to mid-50's. in addition, winds will be howling between 30, 40, 45 miles an hour right into the afternoon hours tomorrow and that's not good news with a combination of rain and wind especially for the fall foliage up in the poconos. saturday 48 degrees. not the best of days. but even by sunday with that sun returning, a lot of leaves will be ripped off because of those winds and rain with a temperature of 56. your four day at 4:00 forecast here again it is a damp start to the weekend. chilly, windy, 56 degrees, some breitling very late in the day -- brightening very late in the day. sunshine 64 sunday still on the windy side for both the eagles and union game. monday lots of sun 63 then a chilly breeze sets in but it stays dry on tuesday, temperatures tumble back to around 57 and we'll have the rest of the seven-day forecast in the next half hour. >> sounds good. thank you. still ahead a local high school band gets to make its

"action news" reporter vernon odom live on the campus of west chester university with the latest. vernon. >> reporter: monica and brian, this came after three days of on and off negotiations in harrisburg

between the chancellor's office and the faculty union representing those 5500 teachers across the pennsylvania system. it is the first time they've had a strike by the fact too he in 34 years in this pennsylvania system. as you look at some of the things we shot here today, west chester university was gearing up for their homecoming weekend with full plans for full ceremonies and services at a football game over the weekend. but now there's great cheer here on the campus. we've just had a chance to talk to just a few people a few minutes ago. many of the students were out supporting the teachers but now that apparently they've had a tentative agreement here's a statement from dr. kenneth mash the leader of the union that was on strike and i quote here our primary goals were to preserve quality education for our students protect our adjuncts from exploitation and make sure the variety of faculty work are respected. weary leaved to have an agreement there he preserves

quality public higher education in pennsylvania and allows our members to get back into the classroom where they belong. again a great deal of relief here after this three day strike suddenly ending late today. there were few signs of it coming to an end this quickly. homecoming reservations -- homecoming ceremonies and things like that were planned for over the weekend. now they'll be back on in full including the marching band. now, ironically, ironically, going to -- governor tom wolf was here in west chester early this afternoon. he told several students who asked him to come to the campus that i hope this thing will be over very soon and indeed, the governor who is not the direct point person on negotiating these contracts was right. he has obviously had something knowing that things were close to a settlement. all is happy here on the west chester campus. i'll be back later with more reaction from a very relieved student body and faculty and administration. live in west chester, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> all right, vernon thanks very much. a south jersey school bus

driver lab arrested on child pornography charges. 55-year-old robert lynch is a bus driver for the moorestown school district and moorestown friends school. police say they found child pornography on digital media devices inside his home on austin avenue in the then dora section of gloucester township. lynch is now charged with third degree possession of child pornography. he was released on his own recognizance. >> three men arrested for the attack on postal carrier in delaware county that happened back in january are lined bars. mark white derek dawson and joseph merrian are charged with the assault in morton. the pennsylvania torn general say the postal worker was punched more than 10 times after being confronted by these alleged attackers. the attorney general said it started when one of the suspects asked the postal carrier why he was blocking the road with his mail truck. each of the three suspects remains behind bars. philadelphia police and the fbi are hoping to catch this suspected bank robber. officials say he went into the wells fargo bank on south 13th

westbound pennsylvania turnpike approaching virginia drive. it's taking out the left lane. so speeds like just 10 miles per hour coming west of bensalem and route one this afternoon. the westbound turnpike looks like it normally does during the morning commute. not a pleasant experience this afternoon. on the northeast extension of the turnpike a truck has broken down northbound just beyond the mid-county toll plaza. that's in the center lane causing which some delays on the eastbound turnpike. broken down truck in blocking bells mill. stick to germantown avenue as a an alternate. getting into new jersey still have construction they're saying until 8 o'clock tonight along 95 at the scudder falls bridge. you're seeing delays in both directions. really want to stick with route one the super highway to get into or from new jersey instead of 95 there in bucks county this afternoon. in mercer county there was a crash along 195 westbound just cleared out so speeds are on the uptick there but in haddon heights watching a crash right by lenny's driving school.

the winter so as you try to brake if you hit some of those wet leaves you could slide with your car so just watch that over the next 24 hours. 79 right now in philadelphia. still very balmy. 78 in trenton. upper 70's lehigh valley, even the poconos 71 but with that front coming in and the rain we've dropped to 63 now in lancaster while it's in the upper 70's one county over. we look to the west a little spin in the atmosphere, low pressure. we're not going to see a lot of rain maybe a quarter to a half inch but just enough to dampen that ground and give us a little bit rain that we need around here after a very dry month so far. but take a look at the temperatures by tomorrow morning. upper 40's for most of the suburbs. 50 for philadelphia. periods of rain overnight and those winds really increasing after the midnight hour. as low pressure winds up in new england here, showers for the first part of saturday giving way to very late day sunshine. winds between 40, 45 miles an hour gusting throughout the day.
