the handgun she had and was shot by police. >> maryland police internal affairs are investigating now. police have not identified the suspects and we are waiting to hear about how this is all connected to the crime in delaware. we'll pass along information on this story as we get it. we are also following breaking news in montgomery county where traffic is flowing again along the northeast extension of the pennsylvania turnpike. the northbound lanes were closed for nine hours after a crash involving four tractor trailers. walter perez is covering the story for us live now. >> reporter: the only thing you can say about today is what a mess. you see the scene is a whole lot better than it was for the entire morning commute until 12:45 it afternoon when the northbound side of the highway

was shut down. >> it was around 5:30 this morning when a massive pileup involving four tractor trailers and one vehicle forced a closure of the northeast extension between landsdale and quakertown. in the end it took nine hours to clean up the wreckage and reopen the highway. amazingly one minor injury reported. there was no shortage of commuters that got stuck in the backup. as drivers were diverted turnpike officials handed out slips of paper with suggestions how to get around the closure. matt was one of lucky ones getting off at the landsdale exit any way. >> i was coxing from levittown, and i thought it would be worse. i was stuck for 15 minutes, but it was traffic. >> dan was not as fortunate. he was trying to get home to scranton. >> maybe add another hour, hopefully less but we'll stay optimistic.

boyds philadelphia. they are searching for clues after a smash and grab burglary this morning. the windows were smashed in and they believe that expensive merchandise was stolen. it happened at the store on the 1800 block of chestnut street and the front window was shattered and a mannequin was found on the sidewalk along with the bumper of the car. the action cam found workers boarding up the damage today. boyd is known for its high end apparel and custom-made suits for men. it's unclear what may have been taken from inside of the store but boyds has an extensive surveillance system and detectives are check that out and working to determine who was behind this and how much they made off with. bob brooks working the story and will have more coming up on "action news" at 5:00. >> all right meantime, two people are in custody accused of ramming into a vehicle with two philadelphia police officers inside of it. the philadelphia officers were

trying to make a traffic stop at 2:00 a.m. in the city's fern rock neighborhood. that is when authorities say that the two men in this honda civic took off and they traveled a short distance to 11th and spencer that is when they encountsered a difference set of offices in an unmarked police car and they rammed those officers. neighbors heard the commotion and record tropical disturbance on their cell phones. >> i heard that boom. and wow it sounds like a crash happened. >> all i heard was cars racing down a block and then i heard a big bang. >> now police say they recovered a marijuana plant in the suspect's car, the police officers struck in the unmarked vehicle are expected to be okay. little bit gray out there today and a little bit on the chilly side as we get a check of the accuweather forecast. lets head outside to melissa magee in for adam.

a new lawsuit claims a section of north wildwood city

beach is so dangerous it should be shut down. the inlet beach is where brad smith drowned in 2012. the horsham father was walking in ankle deep water when the sand dropped downnder his feet and he was pulled out to sea. they have learned this has happened before. in 2009 dominique was walking with two family members when they unexpectedly felt the stand fall out before. >> it felt like a trapdoor like a false bottom. i was here one minutes and not the next minute. >> mcneil survives but her aunt and cousin drown. they are looking to close the beach and the suit claims that the city new about the shore line drop-off for 10 years but only posted no swimming sign but nothing to warn people walking in shallow water could be

student. they learned that the student was actually 20. last month nathaniel perez gonzales was a victim of abuse after having sex with michelle -- >> he was in fact 20 and turned himself into police and remains behind bars. she is no longer employed by the indian river district. and a mother was hit by a car in the german town section of philadelphia. a man was backing out of the driveway when he hit the woman and child. police are still trying to identify about 20 to 30 young people involved in attacks near temple university. it shows the large group surrounding three of the victims on the 1400 block of oxford street friday night. all the victims were assaulted and a 19-year-old woman's cell phone was stolen.

two male juvenile suspects were arrested and the rest of the attackers were able to run away before the police arrived. this is one of four attacks near campus on friday and police are increasing weekend patrols as a precaution. weekend classes at center city had to be moved today because of flooding. school officials say a valve flooded the floors at 15th and market street. the build is now open while the work is being done. many living in trenton accepted a handout today that could one day save their lives. members of the red cross and the fire department when door-to-door offering free smoke alarms and offered them at no cost. it was the latest event in a month long fire safety campaign in the city. melissa magee is joining us now and we are talking about a

four people died today on a ride that is common at many amusement parks. the victims were killed when a river rapids ride failed in queensland, australia. two were killed and two others were under water or caught in the machinery. the park is shut down as police investigate. now to the latest in the awful bus crash in california that killed 13 people. investigator says there is no evidence that the bus driver ever applied the brakes, they are still investigating the tour bus tragedy that happened near palm springs. those on the bus were visiting a

an up scale center city department store targeted by thieves, the front windows of boyds philadelphia, usually feature high end fashion and tonight a piece of plywood covering the entry point made by brazen burglars. the big story is the burglary on chestnut street. bob brooks is live in front of boyds with all the details. >> reporter: monica and rick, this is as daring and as brazen as it gets. we are outside of boyds on chestnut and all sides point to someone backing their car straight into the front window here and got away with a lot of goods. >> boyds known throughout the city for high end fashion. not a store you would expect to have a boarded up front display case, today boyds has no other option. the window was smashed out and the store ransacked at 4:30 a.m.
