going live to reading now and that's where former president bill clinton will campaign for his wife in about an hour or so. so far there's been little response from the clinton camp except from campaign chairman john podesta who called on the fbi to provide more information. >> republicans continue their push for pennsylvania today. mike pence spent the afternoon in bensalem bucks county and dr. benn carson focused on rallying city support for republican nominee donald trump he held this rally today in west philadelphia. that as trump applauded the fbi for having "the courage to right the horrible mistake that they made." we'll of course be following the fallout from this announcement from the fbi throughout the newscast for you. david muir will have more coming up on "world news tonight" at 6:30 right after "action news at 6:00. >> we are also following two developing stories tonight. both are tying up modes of transportation before a busy holiday weekend. >> first to chicago's o'hare international airport. one of the busiest in the country.

right now no flights are going in or out because an american airlines boeing 766 caught on fire. flight 383 was about to take off from chicago for miami when it blew a tire and damaged an and gin. the pilot aborted takeoff. at least nine people were hurt. it is unclear how badly they were injured. >> now closer to home here in bucks county where part of the pennsylvania turnpike is still closed tonight in both directions. around 7 o'clock this morning a dump truck tour down 14 wires in a construction zone. more than 10 hours later, the road is still closed and it's expected to stay that way through tonight's rush hour. matt pelman is tracking the big impact it's having on the commute and we'll have an update coming up in just a few moments. in chester township two freight train blows were hurt after two freight trains collided led on this morning. one was pulling dozens of empty cars another was carrying eight cars full of

consumer goods and food products. the cause of the crash still under investigation. new at five tonight officials in wilmington are trying to figure out how a pellet gun ended up inside of a school bathroom. that gun ended up going off injuring two boys. happened around 9:45 yesterday morning at the warner elementary school on west 18th street. now both boys involved are facing serious consequences. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live in wilmington tonight with more on the investigation. vernon. >> reporter: good evening, rick. so far the police are not getting any cooperation at all from the accused boys' parents or guardians in this case. the investigation does continue with two boys however in hot water. a double shooting inside the normally quiet warner elementary school yesterday morning. two fifth graders were lit with discharges from a pellet gun. it happened inside this boys' room just before 9:45. two boys also fifth graders had entered the room officials

say, one boy handing the air pistol over to his buddy he. >> the students began the play around, a little fire play horseplay with the air gun. one pellet discharged. it hit the wall and it ricocheted and grazed someone's neck and then another student was struck in the thumb. >> reporter: both victims were treated by the school nurse and there was apparently no need to take them to a hospital. the parents of the two fifth graders who handled this weapon denied any knowledge of how the gun got there. both boys it appears will be expelled from the warner elementary school. >> student code of conduct that governs orebody at the school as well as the district calls for very specific consequences. >> reporter: and they are. >> expulsion, expulsion from school. >> reporter: the weapon was recovered from the police from inside a student locker. all of the parents in the 450 student school have been notified. >> it's scary. it is. and as a parent, i do agree

there they should have parenting for people that know that they have troubled children. >> reporter: monica, i must point out here that just last year at this same school there was a similar incident involving a pellet gun. i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news, reporting live from wilmington, delaware. >> thank you vernon. in new jersey a mother is looking for answers after her son was seriously injured at school a case of horseplay in the hallway spiraled out of control and now a 12-year-old is missing a finger. nora muchanic is live in our new jersey news room with there story. >> reporter: monica that horseplay ended in a disfiguring injury for middle school student. his frustrated mother contacted us when she couldn't get help or a response from the school district. >> when she pushed me. >> reporter: he's a sixth grader at grace dunn middle school in trenton. on october 6th a friend of his

shoved him into the locker severing part of the pinkie finger on his right hand. >> one land slipped off the locker and i tried to stop myself with this hand and my finger got caught up in the air vent and it took off the top part. >> reporter: he required surgery to he repair the injury the severed part of his finger could not be reattached. he's been out of school and has either a doctor appointment or physical therapy every day. >> i have insurance. my insurance covered some of it but not all of it. you have insurance that would cover the rest of it. >> reporter: his mother says despite repeatedly contacting the school board of education and suit's office she has been unable to get information about the district's insurance coverage. home schooling for her son or what, if any, discipline the girl who pushed him into the locker has received. >> i don't think i'm asking too much. i think i've waited long enough. >> reporter: she says she learned the name of the district's insurer independently and once she called they knew nothing about the case. >> how do you have somebody lose a finger and don't know know? nobody says anything?

nobody is called to check on him to see if he was all right. no nothing. >> reporter: the school district tells "action news" grace dunn middle school filed a medical incident report october 6th and the case is being reviewed. meantime this 12-year-old boy who plays basketball football and soccer remains out of school and worried about what losing part of his finger will mean. >> how. i going to catch a ball with one whole hand and forefingers? >> reporter: now, late this afternoon the school district said it will be reaching out to the family to make accommodations for home schooling and a spokesman would not comment on whether the girl who pushed him was disciplined. live in our new jersey news room i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." monica. >> all right, it's rick but thank you nor a well, the philadelphia 76ers have issued an apology for that controversy surrounding the national anthem performance before the team's season opener. the team stopped sevyn streeter from performing because she was wearing a jersey he that read we matter. at the time the team said

street had signed an agreement saying her performance would not further any personal agenda. well today the team released a statement that reads in part, after receiving feedback from our players, basketball operations staff and ownership group, we believe that the wrong decision was made and sevyn should have been welcomed to sing. the team has invited her back to perform at any game of her choice and we are waiting to hear her response. >> in less than 11 days voter there is pennsylvania will head to the polls and several local races are heating up including the race for pennsylvania's eighth district in the u.s. house. today republican brian fitzpatrick and steve santarsiero squared off in a debate at delaware valley blue route doylestown. the two discussed national security gun safety and the economy. >> for small business which is catalyst of so many jobs in our country and here in the eighth district we need to make sure that we cut red tape and we make it easier for businesses to expand and to develop. i'm dedicated to doing there

cape may county tonight. engineers shut down the bridge today to all traffic when a large crack was discovered in one of the girders. the 86-year-old bridge is the main entry he in and out of stone harbor. now drivers must detour onto either north wildwood boulevard ocean drive or avalon boulevard. county engineers say there's no timetable yet for when the bridge will reopen. >> all right a busy traffic day that is for sure so let's see how the situation is on your friday night as we check our "action news" traffic report. >> over to matt pelman to see what's going on. >> we're not having the best afternoon commute, that's for sure rick and monica. no relief here yet. the turnpike is still closed in both directions in bucks and burlington counties because of the downed wires from 7 o'clock this morning. eastbound all traffic forced off at bensalem route one single digit speeds coming east of willow grove. westbound in new jersey you're forced off at 130 so you can't even get to the turnpike connector bridge so a lot of people are going south on 130, speeds just in the teens and then heading for the burlington bristol bridge. stay farther away if you can

protestors in north dakota. >> it's not okay. >> yesterday officers wearing riot gear moved in and removed hundreds of people. they had set up a roadblock and camp on some private land owned by the developer of the pipeline. they even burned cars trying to keep police away. protestors have been in that area for weeks protestorring the 1200-mile pipeline designed to carry oil from western north dakota to illinois. the world series heads to wrigley field tonight home of the chicago cubs but it is a sight the ballpark hasn't seen since 1945. how about that? october 10th, 1945 to be exact. 25,950 days ago. tonight the cubs will host the cleveland indians there for game three of this year's world series. the series is tied at one game a piece. tickets for tonight's game were selling at least for 25 lunn dollars -- $2,100 a. >> new castle county staple is back opened after it was gutted by fire last christmas

>> health check tonight. johnson and johnson lost its third lawsuit over claims its talcum baby powder is linked to cancer. >> a jury in saint louis awarded mourn $70 million to a woman in california. ali gorman joins us with details. >> she was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in 2012. the woman says she used johnson's baby powder for mourn 40 years. this is the third lawsuit the company has lost but in new jersey a judge threw out two other cases ruling there wasn't reliable evidence talcum powder causes ovarian cancer. now on its web site the american cancer society says findings have been mickd with some studies reporting a slightly increased risk and some reporting no risk. nor research is needed. a virginia hospital system

is investing in copper to health infections. they're putting couperin fused bedding towels tray tables gowns and sinks throughout its 12 hospital system. in a test it found units using copper infused products have up to 83 percent fewer hospital acquired infections compared to units not using copper. the metal is said to help kill bacteria. other medical centers have also changed door lathes and other frequently touched items. the products do cost more but can save more when it comes to fighting infections. also today, many kids dressed as ghosts and goblins will be trick-or-treating this weekend. if your child has food allergies make sure they're prepared with their own safe treats. >> i ask they bring their own treats when they go trick-or-treating. at that time it wasn't to have epipens with them and encourage their kids not to even if they've bought safe snacks and i want the parents to make sure they take a look at all of it before the kids

suburbs, past peak now across the poconos and moderate fall foliage across south jersey and delaware so some places to go, the local park is a good idea. tyler state park should have some great falls foliage french creek state park in berks and chester county looking good and also in berks county nockamixon state park. should be fantastic weather for hiking or running definitely on the warm side. right now it's cool 56 degrees in philadelphia allentown 52 wilmington 56 cape may 57. we're getting those winds out of the northwest behind last night's cold front. that is what what's really cooling things off but satellite6 along with action radar slowing a big weather maker this weekend as high pressure and what this high pressure will do it will sink to the south so that will shift the winds out of the southwest and that will bring much milder air in tomorrow and down right warm air on sunday. so, tonight for your friday night clear and chilly.

winds will diminish so not a big wind chill factor but overnight low down to 33 in the suburb, 41 for center city so seasonably cool and then tomorrow unseasonably warm. we'll see a good amount of sunshine with some high thin clouds so that milky white sky, winds out of the southwest, temperatures up near 70 degrees in philadelphia, allentown 68, trenton 68 and cape may up to 72 degrees. and future tracker showing sunday morning at 8 o'clock temperatures already in the mid to upper 50's. heading into the afternoon, afternoon highs close to 80 degrees. our record high is 81. if we get enough sunshine, could be hitting that. by 3 o'clock some clouds across the lehigh valley and then a cold front will bring us a chance of some showers on sunday evening. looks like about a tenth of an inch so not a lot of rain, maybe even a rumble of thunder but behind that temperatures really drop for halloween so your five day forecast showing a lot of ups and downs. tomorrow 70 degrees, sunday up to 80. some late showers, maybe a rumble of thunder.

it is looking at new e-mails that may be related to its investigation into hillary clinton's correspondence during her time as secretary of state. u.s. officials say these e-mails did not come from clinton's private. mail server and were not written by hillary clinton. in fact they were reportedly found on the device used by this woman that was seized as part of the sexting investigation into her estranged husband anthony weiner. >> james comey cents this letter to congress a few hours ago. it says in part the fbi has learned of the existence of e-mails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation. i am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday and i agree that the fbi should take appropriate investigative steps designed to review these e-mails to determine whether they contain classified information as well as to assess their importance to our investigation. >> donald trump pounced on the new fbi probe and immediately shared it with supporter during this rally in new hampshire this afternoon.

mr. clinton will address this latest development. we'll have live report coming up on "action news" tonight at 6:00. >> president obama is also headed to the battleground states to help hillary clinton. tonight he's holding a rally in orlando florida. clinton's campaign says the president in fact will travel to ohio next tuesday north carolina wednesday and other states to campaign for his former secretary of state. as we head less than 11 days and counting until election day and you can download our free 6abc news app to get breaking alerts and read all about the latest from the campaign trail. >> all right in other news tonight police officers say they were forced to shoot a violent and suicidal man in juniata last evening. officers responded to a home along the 3800 block of elsinore street jusafter 10:30 last night. the suspect's 26-year-old daughter told them he was drunk and inside the home with a live in and threatening to kill himself. officers 20 saw the armed man and ordered him to drop the weapon. when he he reportedly refused police used a taser. the man allegedly became angry

and continued to try to stab himself. authorities then reloaded the taser and stunned him again. >> became more agitated by that. he removed the prong at which point in time the officer goon retreat. >> investigators say once the suspect followed him outside with the knife and again refused to drop his weapon they fired a shot. the plan is now in critical but stable condition. no officers were hurt. a new castle county man is charged with trying to kidnap two children in newark on wednesday afternoon. our delaware news room has been following the story. police say this man, joseph kriger attempted to abduct the kids who were playing outside near east edgewater way and clip are court. investigators say kriger was in a vehicle at the time and never will any physical contact with the children. he was arrested at his home yesterday. he's now being held on $50,000 bail. >> a car deal slip in langhorne bucks county was damaged after a truck smashed into the front window.

it happened about 11:00 this morning at reedman toll auto world here in the 1600 block of east lincoln highway. from chopper6 you can see a white panel truck there partially inside the dealership. no immediate reports of serious injuries but the damage looks extensive. investigators are trying to see how that crash happened. a head-on crash on kelly drive injured one person in fairmount park this the scene about 3:00 p.m. near girard avenue. it's still not clear what led to the collision but at least two cars an pickup truck were involved. the injured person was taken to hahnemann hospital for treatment. and this suspect elvis anderson is under arrest tonight after a game stop store robbery near -- in newark delaware. it happened at the suburban plaza shopping center. a robber held that store employees there at gunpoint and forced them to land over cash and games. but there was a tracking device in the stolen loot. so police did track it down perryville, maryland, and there arrested this suspect.

burlington bristol bridge but it's quite the crowd. just 4 miles per hour there. so, you really need to think outside the box. stay as far away from that turnpike connector bridge as you can this afternoon. maybe the tacony palmyra or betsy ross bridges or stay up on route one the not so super highway all throw by now that is pretty busy. 95 and the scudder falls bridge might be one of your best bets although there was an accident on 95 in bucks county, southbound approaching street road but now it's off to the side so starting to move a little better there. here on the northbound side of 95 in fishtown, there's a broken down truck taking out the right lane here in the work zone so that's why that penn truck is sitting right there taking out the right lane. elsewhere on the turnpike eastbound past 476 the northeast extension there were two separate accidents, both now on the side but it is still slow with speeds in the 30's coming away from valley forge. the crash we just told you about on the kelly drive in fairmount park that just cleared. the kelly drive just reopened so go ahead and use that at this point. i think that would be a better bet than the schuylkill where

>> warm air is coming our way and we like it. >> looking at 70's maybe 80 degrees and then a big drop for halloween but halloween looking pretty nice out there. >> okay. >> let's talk about the good. we got storm tracker6 live double scan showing not a whole lot here on this friday. this friday was a pretty windy day but the action cam in center city pretty artistic shot here, liberty one in the background and this is near city hall. and you can see sun and clouds mixing through the atmosphere. if you noticed the clouds today they were moving pretty quickly with those winds out of that northwesterly direction with speeds of close to 30, 40 miles an hour. as we look at temperatures right now, 50's across-the-board with the exception of the poconos at 39 degrees right now. lower 50's lehigh valley and

trenton. mid-50's philadelphia all the way to the shore where the ocean temperature now is down to 60 degrees. wind speeds again they're slowly coming down from earlier today. 10 miles an hour in the lehigh valley. 17 in philadelphia. nine in millville. teens along the shore and the same for the western suburbs of philadelphia as well as the state of delaware around 14 miles an hour. low pressure that brought the rain and mountain snows for new england continue to wraparound some of the extra moisture in maine in the form of rain and snow, so with that low north of austin and high pressure to the south and west, between these two opposite forces you get that wind tunnel effect so it brought in the clear air but it did bring in those really chilly winds but eventually it's going to relax as that high settles to the south and the low pushes away. so for tonight winds diminish down to about four to 8 miles an hour. it's a chilly but clear night near freezing for the lehigh valley, 36 in trenton, 37 in millville, 40's along the shore and the same for dover
