good afternoon, we begin with the transit shut down impacting nearly a half million septa riders. 4700 union workers walked of the job and are on strike. i'm sara bloomquist and the big story on "action news" is the contact impasse that brought is the city's subways and trolleys and buss to a halt. >> we have team coverage this afternoon. bob brooks has more on the commuters but first wendy saltzman is live outside of the hotel where septa and the union are trying to work out a deal. >> reporter: we are told that both sides said they were willing to negotiate throughout the night but at midnight the talks broke down and that is when the strike became official. sources are telling us they are

interested in going back to the table but there is no official proposal or when the talks will resume. septa employees have now stepped off the job and on to the picket line, this is impacting all city buses and drains and the sticking point sources say are pensions, that could cause septa tens of millions of dollars to meet the union's demands. management gets a pension in full play but workers only get pension on partial pay. >> we are working on this for two years and the thing that gets me the most. we are not being greedy, i think septa slapped the public in the face and the taxpayers in the face when they said they would do pension reform but what they did was line their pockets. >> and other issues are health care and driver fatigue. the average pay for a septa

worker is $68,000. we expect to see the union president later this afternoon. he said a few small issues were resolved but we had to draw a line in the stand somewhere. >> we could come together for bathroom breaks and lunch time for operators and scheduling and operating fatigue and that sort but we couldn't come to any kind of agreement. >> septa released a statement saying that mr. brown walk add way from a contract offer with raises and enhanced benefits and continued job security. >> also, just in union ocs are telling us they expected a proposal from septa any time now but septa has not confirmed that and they hope to have the issue resolved before the election, septa saying if they do not come to an agreement, they would come

to get people to the polls. wendy saltzman channel 6 "action news." >> lets switch live now to reporter, bob brooks at septa's olney station. bob, you are watching all morning as riders switched to plan b as they switched to rails. >> reporter: i have been out here all morning and this olney platform is not typically that crowded by so many people here in the mornings, but today you could barely get a spot on the platt enforcement. it was so crowded at one form, the police officer here would not allow us to go up with our tripod for fear of knocking people off. that was the situation here and like most people they are not happy about the strike. >> you typically don't see the police officer ushering people at the rail stops nor a crowded

platform at daylight. >> we have extra company today -- >> yes, it's crazy. >> all a result of the septa strike -- i asked the crowd this morning if they usually take the regional rail line, and it's a mixed review. >> you normally take regional rail -- >> for those that normally ride it it's not the typical crowd. >> they will all not get on this train. >> for those that don't it's not where they want to be. >> usually take broad street, with that down i have to choice to get here to get to classes. >> the regional rail is the only train operating around the city during the strike. >> live in huntsing park, it took me 40 minutes to walk from hunting park to here. >> and big ones at home. >> a big inconvenience for my son. >> why? >> he has autism and is used to a regular routine.

>> we spoke with a rider who same thesed with the situation. >> there are issues with pensions and health care and they are serious and should be addressed. we are inconvenienced but these are relevant issues. >> now, another option for people that you might want to check into. if you are familiar with uber, uber pool is expanding its service to cover all of septa during the strike. it's 75% cheaper than regular uber, something you might want to keep in mind. bob brooks, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. the philadelphia school district is open today even as the septa strike continues. >> more than 50,000 philadelphia students who normally ride the subways and buses and trolleys had to find another way to get to class this morning. here at south philadelphia high school many parents were doing the drop-offs inside.

hearing at the courthouse in norristown. >> reporter: good afternoon, they just took a lunch break until early this afternoon. this is a classic suppression hearing cosby's defense team trying to get key evidence against him thrown out by the time this case goes to trial in june. >> bill cosby back in court today in what seems to be an endless chain of pretrial m maneuvers against the entertainer who is now 79 and legally blind. they are suppose to have known sexual accusers testify to a pattern of bad acts when he goes on trial for molesting andrea constand in '04. they claim the witnesses are not reliable because of time and

media coverage and friendships with each other and should not be allowed to testify. the celebrated womens advocate lawyer, gloria allred represent a lot of cosby's alleged victims. >> i said the court will allow some or all of those witnesses to testify, because i do think that the prosecution is correct when it states that their testimony would tend to show a common theme or plan by mr. cosby. and therefore it is relevant. >> the prosecution says that cosby used his fame and power to friend naive young women and used drugs and or alcohol to sexual assault them. and the defense wants to suppress a deposition that cosby gave in the constand case 12 years ago. >> reporter: sara this hearing

is scheduled to go through tomorrow and resume again in december. live at the montgomery county courthouse in norristown. vernon odom, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. four children were on a school bus that collided with another car in philadelphia' frankford section this morning. first responders carried some of the very young students to a waiting ambulance at the intersection of folcroft. federal investigators are heading to baltimore maryland where at least six people died when a school bus crash nood a transit bus. the bus was on its way to pick up the first children when is hit a transit bus. the school bus drive ever was killed along with at least five people on the transit bus. now to the race for the white house, we are exactly one week away from the election. donald trump is pushing for

voters in the philadelphia suburbs today. the presidential nominee started to speak at a rally in king of prussia. trump's running mate mike pence is at the event as well. walter perez will have a live report from king of prussia in our next half hour. >> meanwhile on the democratic side hillary clinton is focusing on voters getting to the polls for early voting particularly in critical battleground states like florida. heading back to the sunshine state for three different rallies this afternoon. yesterday clinton continued to defend herself from a new fbi examination of emails, claiming there is no case out there. >> a poll shows hillary clinton with a lead in pennsylvania, the numbers show hillary clinton leading donald trump 49% to 38% among likely numbers, but most of the interviewing was done

some of you out in chester county and berks county and places like that are cloudier than here in philadelphia and the pock that everyone at times will be back and form with sun and clouds mix. 60 is your forecast high in the lehigh valley. and i think we'll hang on to a lot of sunshine in most shore spots. a high of 63 degrees, cool and a mix of sun and clouds in philadelphia. a high of 62 this afternoon, right around average and notice how the winds are expected to remain on the light side today. and then overnight, partly cloudy and not as cool and 49 degrees, this morning we got up to 40 and 39 in philadelphia. once the official number comes in and tomorrow 9 or 10 degrees milder in the morning. as we go through the rest of day tomorrow we get a surge of mild air and you see how the wins are coming in from the south and getting up into the low 70s across the region and it's warmer than that as we go into thursday. your exclusive accuweather
