"action news" reporter, sara bloomquist is live outside of the fern rock transportation center. >> reporter: rick and monica, picket lines like the one behind me is set up at transportation hubs across the city tonight. most are like this one, peaceful and none disruptive. earlier this afternoon we stopped by one picket line at the tioga-nicetown section where picketers were blocking one near the regional rail line and septa is warning more in the regional rail service through the evening rush, meantime workers on the picket lines tell us they are in

it for the long haul. >> at the roberts avenue yard in tioga nices town. they were blocking the employee entrance to the regional rails running on schedule but septa warns the pickets could disrupt service through the evening rush. at midnight the union workers hit the picket lines here and across the city. >> am here since 94, this is the first time i can remember this part of the gate being shut off. >> at the fern rock transportation center, striking workers give us a long list of issues they hope they can resolve with the transit authority. >> pay, pension and health care but however there is still work rules. >> for me the priority is the pens, for me it's do or die. >> many prepared saved money

some how knowing the strike would come and some open to get back to work soon. there is anxiety. >> are they talking making progress? how long will we be out here. but we are out here for the duration however long it takes. >> we are hopeful, we don't want to stay out any longer than anyone wants taos be out. >> they are prepared to be out here 24 hours a day for as long as it takes, they have food and fires and grills going. the last strike in 2009 went on for six days, they can remember a strike in the 90s that lasted 40 days and one in the 70s that lasted 44 days, they hope to be back at work as soon as possible and definitely before election day. i'm sara bloomquist, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. >> the septa strike is putting a crunch on families.

the action cam caught up with families outside of the high school today. the change is a big inconvenience. >> i had to drive her all the way here. an inconvenience waking up early and got her here. >> it's not easy to come to school every day without the bus, they have to fix that. >> less than two hours ago the school district officials say they are monitoring the situation license continue to assess the strike's impact. >> meantime in the middle of the first evening rush since septa went on strike. matt pellman is in the traffic center. >> reporter: we heard sara say 40 days and 44 days, we hope and pray that is not the case this time. one day is bad enough. picketers blocking access to the regional rail facilities and crews cannot get to their trains and septa has canceled a number of regional rail trains, a couple on the wilmington line

and even those running are running with severe delays and some crossed the hour mark. a 60 minute delay on the doylestown train. and the regional rails were a viable alternative well they are running way behind and much worse than normal today. so what is running? patco is running helping you get between old city and rittenhouse and lucy running and cct connect services running good news for the dialysis patients and suburban buses and 101 and 102 trolleys but when you get to 69th street the market frankford line and broad street line is not running and city buses are not running either. on the roads extra gridlock on the city streets when people drive because mass transit is not a great option across the board this afternoon. we'll check it again in the next half hour. >> thank you. stay with 6abc.com as the

accusers thrown out calling them tainted and unreliable memories. turning to politics, election day is just a week away now. now the race for president is in the home stretch, both hillary clinton and donald trump are focusing on pennsylvania. the newest 6 abc franklin and marshall poll shows clinton with a 11 point lead in the keystone state but a majority of the polling was done before last week's statement from the fbi on clinton's new email issue. trump and his running mate were on the ground in king of prussia gaining support and walter perez joins us there later. >> it was a more subdued donald trump speaking before a packed crowd of hundreds at the double tree hotel and wasted no time going against delicious and president obama. donald trump showing just how important pennsylvania is to his campaign with a stop today in king of prussia. and he did not come alone.

running mate mike pence also spoke with several high-profile supporters including dr. ben carson. trump touched on subjects but his desire to repeal the affordable care act commonly referred to as obama care. >> here in pennsylvania premiums increase up to 40% and that is nothing compare to the future. in the future if i'm president this won't be obama care. polls have clinton holding a sizable lead. some have it tighter, including the abc news "washington post" poll showing trump with a slight edge over clinton leading 46% to 45% that in the wake of the new information regarding the fbi email investigation involving the democratic nominee. we spoke with reporters here at the double tree hotel in king of prussia. >> i hope that everybody comes

effect. and drivers are paying up big time. the average price per gallon yesterday was $2.04 and now it sits at $2.24 per gallon above the national average. nora muchanic spoke to drivers about the hike. she is live in ewing, mercer county. >> driver was like to turn back the clock yesterday's prices were so much better but this is the new reality. higher prices at the pump to pay for transportation projects nobody we talked to today is happy about paying more. >> i think it's outrageous, i can't believe they would raise the prices up like that. >> drivers filling up suffered from sticker shock after the 23 cent gallon hike went into effect overnight. >> it's crazy i was here two days ago and it was $2.08 and

that the brakes were not applied that could mean that the driver may have suffered a medical emergency, the ntsb is now investigating. >> health check tonight, the u.s. is losing is ground in preventing a serious threat to infants, premature birth. ali gorman has the latest for us at the big board. >> reporter: the march of dimes set a goal for 2020 that just 8% of babies will be born early but that goal seems harder to reach now. for the first time in a decade premature births when up in this country to just under 10%. rates are higher among african-american and native americans, prematurity being born before 37 weeks is the leading cause of infant death and leads to dozens of clickations, some doctors believe a rising rate of smoking during pregnancy could be a factor. montgomery county earned a b grade the best in our region

time for accuweather at the big board. cecily tynan has the first forecast for november. not a bad way to start off the month. >> we had clear skies earlier and now sky 6 hd looking at a veil of clouds over philadelphia international airport cloudy skies are pretty typical of november. in november we get into the lower sun angle and even a thin veil of clouds can make things pretty dark and temperatures really drop by the end of the november the average high is down to 50 and today's average high is 61. and on sunday when we begin eastern standard time the sun will be setting at 4:54 by the end of november it's 4:37 p.m. we touched 60 earlier today. this is seasonable.

allentown 56 and trenton 58 and cape may 58 and wilmington 57. satellite 6 along with action radar showing the sun was out this morning and the clouds building in now again with the winds out of the southeast. but the good news is when you get clouds at night. the cloud cover acts like at atmospheric blanket and that means tonight not nearly as cold as last night. last night in philadelphia all the way down to 39 and relatively mild 51 and allentown dropping to 54 and cape may 53. future tracker 6 showing after clouds in the morning by a noon the sunshine is back, and look at that, 71 degrees by 4:30. and wall-to-wall sunshine in the afternoon and then as we head into thursday, we get increasing clouds in the afternoon ahead of a cold front. by 2:30 showers breaking out in the northern lehigh valley and the poconos. and look at this surge of warmth ahead of that front. 76 degrees, we have a chance to

seven more days for hillary clinton and donald trump to convince the country they are the best choice for your president of the united states. the last week on the campaign industrial. he acts like a customer but police say he has a bigger plan. they need your help finding the robber. trouble for another eagles player, jaime apody with the details of a traffic stop involving wide receiver, josh huff. now the latest on the septa strike, more than 4700 union workers walked off the job this morning bringing trolleys, subways and trolleys to a halt. obviously slow going during the evening commute and the situation has not improved. lets take a live look at the sheridan hotel where representatives with septa and the union met for talks today and are talking right now in fact. we have not heard of progress on either side.

trolley lines, and our buses, any route over the number of 90 they are running as are the 101 and 102 trolleys the problem is we see a bunch of cancellations this afternoon because crews not being able to get to their trains because of picketers blocking access to the facilities now less of that and lots of delays on the regional rail lines, a lot of them a half hour. we say stick to the streets, a tweet from michael saying total gridlock in center city and market street by city hall say parking lot right now. shannon tweeting she waited in line 50 mines to get on the strain at suburban station a horrible situation there. extra traffic and gridlock on the city streets, the highways are mostly normal but slow on the boulevard and 95 with speeds in the teens and by the old

a serial robber was on the loose and authorities want to catch him before he strikes again. luckily several businesses that the suspect targeted had surveillance cameras and detectives say the same man robbed a food store and a nail salon on german town avenue and threatening the employees inside. 10 minutes later police think the same man robbed a dunkin' donuts. and minuted later robbed another dunkin' donuts in the 500 block of lehigh avenue. the suspect threatened the employees with guns. from our delaware newsroom. this is 26-year-old taisha cherry and the pair was stopped for speeding near the dover toll plaza and the trooper smelled marijuana coming from their car and they found marijuana and cocaine and a handgun.

valley's leading news program. with ducis rogers, meteorologist, cecily tynan, and jim gardner. tuesday night the state rejects atlantic city's financial turn around plan and bill cosby returns to a norristown courtroom for a pretrial hearing but the big story on "action news" is day one of the septa strike and based on what we hear from the negotiations it looks like they will be a day two. the buses are parked in various depots across the city like here in frankford. a total of 4700 workers went out at midnight last night and that left commuters seeking alternate ways to get to and from work today. people resorted from regional rails to bikes and rides with friends and as you would expect from the first day of a strike it wasn't easy or orderly.
