authorities have captured the man suspected of killing two police officers during an ambush in iowa. with less than a beak to go until the election. a new poll shows the presidential candidates are in a tie. >> but the big story is the second day of frustration for local commuters fighting to get around the septa strike. thousands of people had to battle traffic jams and overcrowding on the regional rails because all buses and subways and trolleys are shut down. but they maintain they are making progress at the bargaining table. annie mccormick is live now. >> reporter: steady progress cautiously optimistic. those are the terms we are hearing, and that progress was made overnight but not revealing specifics. the union is reviewing changes from a proposal from septa.

this is the scene of the transport workers walking off the job at midnight and picketing, almost two full days of the strike. initially it included pension and health care and scheduling, septa said they released at 1:00 a.m. they continue to make steady progress. but the union said they rejected a proposal late tuesday but up until 1:00 this morning the proposal was the most optimistic they have seen so far. even though there is optimism realize this is not a done deal. and both sides say there is a lot of moving parts. and state and city leaders have a presence around the negotiations. stay tuned as the talks continue. channel 6 "action news." back to you. >> annie, thank you.

>> despite movement in the contract talks, the strike is continuing to cause problems in the transportation that is running across the city. gray hall has that part of the story and joins us from the fern rock transportation center. gray -- >> reporter: riders tell me this strike has caused a huge headache and day two right now and thousands are hoping there is no day three or four. >> hectic and long and busy. >> those are some of the words commuters are using to describe getting around town during septa strike. drivers must find new ways to get around. they have stopped operating trolley, and buses and subways. >> yesterday i got to work 6 minutes late but not too bad but a long commute. a lot of stops and delays. as the strike continues many people are depending on the regional rails as a backup that

means crowded trains and likely 30 minutes to an hour to commute times. >> it's frustrating and upsetting my wife has to get up early to bring me to the train stop. it's upsetting, i come out and work that is a nightmare. it's been a nightmare hope this is over soon. >> as commuters we always have to suffer for what septa wants. that is unfair to us. >> the last time was back in 2009 and lasted six days, commuters say they do not want to see a repeat and hoping for a quick resolution. >> i hope it's over today. my son unfortunately cannot go to school because i'm unable to get him home. us parents are trying to see what we can do. >> long lines and overcrowding yesterday and day two will likely be the same. >> i'm thinking it will be a little bit of frustration i'm

progress and you'll find a full list of plans by the city government, schools and businesses. eagles wide receiver, josh huff will play on sunday after police say he was pulled over for speeding with a gun and marijuana ib side of his car. it happened on the jersey side of the walt whitman bridge, the officer that pulled huff over smelled marijuana inside of his vehicle and huff turned over a container of marijuana and said he had a gun in the driver door pocket. that is registered in texas but not in new jersey. eagles coach doug peterson was apologetic and said it will not happen again. >> like you are the father of your house and you keep talking to your siblings and your kids and keep reiterating the importance of what you represent, who you represent, your families and philadelphia eagles and have you to make smart choices, and consequences

conditions stick around we'll get the latest from david murphy outside on the terrace. >> reporter: we have another couple of days before back to reality. satellite showing high clouds filtering their way through the region but overall sunshine and we'll stay with a lot of sunshine and partial cloud cover at times. temperatures are zooming and we are up to 65 degrees and light winds and it feels comfortable on the terrace. and even allentown in the mid-40s is now up to 62 and 64 in trenton and 63 in wilmington and similar numbers from north to south and cape may 62 degrees. in philadelphia we recorded a 12 miles per hour breeze at the top of the hour, i don't feel anything close to that on the terrace right now. and this afternoon how about a high of 73 degrees, well above the average of 61 and in the neighborhood of the record of 81, far south of it.

but low tonight only 58. we'll continue the mild pattern into tomorrow. don't know how long the septa strike will last but if it goes to friday, here is what you can expect. this evening 66 degrees no problems, tomorrow morning not bad 60 for the morning commute in philadelphia and the afternoon 75 but tomorrow afternoon's compute could present a problem with showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. that is something to keep in mind if you plan a walk from the office to the train station. friday a big change and cooler air comes in, that 50 and 55 is misleading because it will feel worse than that with blustery winds on friday. and we'll show you the arriving showers and thunderstormeds tomorrow in the full forecast.

in philadelphia. right now 65 degrees in the city and the winds are southwest at 10 miles per hour but you have light winds in the region adding to a comfortable feel this afternoon. as we look at numbers, 63 in wilmington and 64 in trenton and 62 in allentown and 60 in reading and 65 in millville and down the shore cooler but comfortable enough. 62 degrees there. satellite shows you we had a lack of cloud cover this morning and now bits and pieces of clouds moving in especially the high cirrus stuff, as we go later into the afternoon we'll see more of that. it's a pretty afternoon from start to finish. up in the lehigh valley a high of 72 degrees, down the shore the same story, sunshine and some clouds not as chilly as yesterday with a high of about 67 on most of our beaches and in philadelphia how about a high of 73 degrees this afternoon. sun mixing with occasional clouds and a lot warmer than yesterday and winds from the

southwest averaging only 7 to 14 miles per hour as we go through the rest of the afternoon, partly cloudy and mild. 58 degrees is the low almost 60. and as you get up in the morning and get out there. you may not need much of a jacket. winds from the southwest overnight just 4 to 8 miles per hour. and a warm front tomorrow with the cold front from the west, a high of 79 degrees and the record is 80 and it's not out of the question that we get the record and could be an afternoon gusty thunderstorm, on future tracker 6 we'll show that you right now, by 11:30 in the mornings we are holding on to some sun in philadelphia but the northern and western suburbs will get cloudier and wet and into the afternoon off and on showers by 3:00, 4:00 in the afternoon with this latest model projection we could see gusty thunderstorms and the latest model has some of that action
