americans are lining up to vote in one of the most tumultuous campaigns in our nation's history. good afternoon i'm matt o'donnell. rick and sarah will join our coverage election day. and the big story is it's election day. hillary clinton shook hands with supporters after voting in chappaqua, new york this morning. and donald trump and his family arrived to cast their votes. both nominees are anxious to hear if the nation will hire them for the next four years. >> so many people are counting on the outcome of this election what it means for our country and i will do the best i can if i'm fortunate enough to win today. >> "action news" has crews at both headquarters in new york city.

home his political journey ends where it started in new york city and the watch party will be in this midtown manhattan hotel. >> after a year and a half of holding large rallies in stadiums and arenas, donald trump will address people tonight in this rented ballroom in downtown manhattan. just blocks from trump tower where he launched hi campaign. it's been busy getting the ballroom ready and select reporters and members of the media from all over the world. there is a secret service sweep scheduled later on inside of the ballroom. several nearby streets are shut down for security reasons and trump surrogates are predicting quite an evening and victory party. >> expect great things to happen tonight. >>er ren is here if philadelphia and is a big trump supporters and stumped for him on tv shows.

>> back here in roxborough we see the lunch time crowd. as for the city as a whole. the district attorney's office, tweeted out that the hot line is busy, calls about electrics and polls so far. the polls close at 8:00 tonight. >> thank you katherine. >> the candidates for pennsylvania's hotly contested u.s. senate seat is drumming up support until the last minute. katie mcginty voted at our lady of assumption church in wayne. some show a tight race with mcginty and her republican challenger, pat toomey. toomey's campaign says he will vote later tonight. the outcome to determine whether republicans retain their senate majority. the action cam caught john rafferty speaking to voters, the

republican state senator is vying for the office of pennsylvania attorney general. and his challenger, josh shapiro cast his vote with his family. in addition to a new attorney general, pennsylvanians elect a state treasurer and state autoder. new jersey resident are casting votes for the u.s. house seats, no senate seats are up for grabs. there are two major ballot questions in new jersey. one whether the state should expand gambling outside of atlantic city and whether all revenue raised by the gas tax high should be dedicated to the state transportation trust fund. annie mccormick is live in pennsauken, camden county. >> reporter: good afternoon,

like they said they are not just elected candidates there are two important questions on the ballot. here at this pennsauken library, poll workers said the lines were out the door and expect it to be like that again this afternoon. it was a steady stream outside of this camden polling spot in burlington county. >> i'm relieved it's over and can't wait for all the ads to stop and i'm not real happy about either candidate. >> some relieved and others excited. >> i am looking for it all election long. >> this hillary clinton supporter brought her 9-year-old. we find a mixed bag. >> you have a right to express who are you voting for. >> voted for trump. >> erma jean spend the election season stumping for clinton. >> all 12 new jersey congressional seats are on the

ballot along with county and local races and two public questions, one asking voters to allow two casinos in north jersey and asking the gas tax hike to go to transportation. turnout looks promising. >> it was great this morning to see the turnout. i couldn't believe it, like 200% better, i was amazed. >> it's busy today happy and impressed and glad that democracy is important to the town. >> and if you have a problem at your polling location in new jersey. and one of the poll workers cannot help you, there is a phone number to call for each county's board of elections and most polling places have the number posted or get it from our website, 6abc.com. annie mccormick, channel 6 "action news."

we have been getting reports of some glitches at a handful of polling places in our region. some voter were frustrated in upper darby because the polling place did not open on time. a worker was out sick but is rung smoothly now. if you have issues with voting today let us help 6 abc is

some investors say the narrowing of polls with hillary clinton in the last few days, may have put wall street higher, the dow is up 93 points ands nasdaq 28 points and developing at noon, investigators are looking for a man that was shot by police. tests are being done on two guns that he pointed on officers before they opened fire on him on north 9th street last night.

65 in the city and 66 in wilmington and 66 in allentown and 66 in reading. comfortable numbers out to the polls. there are the clouds coming in from the west and related showers are probably not here until sometime tomorrow morning. a high of 68 in the afternoon and mild conditions, down the shore it looks like we get up to 67 degrees, mostly sunny and milder and not a lot of wind out there today. in philadelphia a high of 69 and winds from the south-southwest at only 5 to 10. sun mixing with a few more clouds later on and on the mild side. by the time we get down to dinner time probably low 60s in the region and when the polls close at 8:00, mid to upper 50s. a nice evening if you hold off until then to vote. 50 is the overnight low and tomorrow morning there is a chance of showers starting at 4:00 and going up to 9:00. the latest mode els go to the
