pedestrians. a 55-year-old off duty police detective who happened to be walking by with his wife tried to intervene. officials say the crowd disbursed. he noticed a second group of teens attacking two women. he got attacked and so did his wife. >> an off duty detective responded he got hurt doing so, he did his job, we are proud of him. >> reporter: as police unit flooded the area, another victim, a 28-year-old man was attacked by the teens around south 16th street. 6 people were injured, the assailants fractured the detective's eye socket. >> just infringing on somebody else liberty fore walking down the street. they should held accountable for what they did.

the police commissioner commended an off-duty police officer who was working at the apple store, he jumped to help. he was not hurt. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." back to you. >> police are investigating an assault at penn treaty school. a person suffered an injury to their face during a fight. the victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. it is not clear if the victim was a student, teacher or staff member. delaware state police are investigating an accident involving a dart para transit bus. shortly before 8:30 a.m., the bus and car crashed in the unit block of red mill road in newark. two people were transported to chris i can't -- christiana hos. police are looking for two armed robbers who held up a restaurant in university city. the men walked into the mad max

we're told the driver was not seriously injured. no word on what caused this, but, again, a truck crashed into a tree and brought down power lines in perkiomen township. again, people in the area do not have power right now him we'll continue to monitor this in perkiomen township montgomery county this noon. military helicopters are being sent to rescue one thousand people stranded on the coast of new zealand. yesterday's powerful earthquake cut off train and vehicle access to several towns. video taken from a helicopter shows three cows stranded on an elevated patch of grass around the ground around them collapsed. 7.8 magnitude quake opened roads and created tsunamis. firefighters are battling several wildfires burning across the southeast today. there are more than 45 fires burning in 8 states.

good for this time of the year. the temperature in philadelphia, 58 degrees. the winds out of south/southwest at 6 miles per hour not all that strong. we expect them to be light today. 58 in reading, 54 in wilmington. 60 in millville. 67 in cape may. 60 in trenton. in the afternoon you'll see the clouds get thicker, though, by 6:00 p.m. you'll see a sprinkle or shower pushing in the southern tier. i will allow for something up to 11:00 p.m., 11:30 p.m. cesily tynan will have something to show you by then. the bulk of the rain coming in overnight and into the morning. in the lehigh valley, sun and clouds this afternoon. mild high 61 degrees. down the shore clouds in the process of increasing south to north along the coast. 62 degrees is the high in atlantic city. sun and clouds, pleasant overall. in philadelphia, sun continues to give way to thicker clouds,

but it's pleasant 62 degrees, winds out of the southwest again to be light about 5 to 10 miles per hour that's held through for the entire morning and i'm expecting it to stay that way this afternoon. for the the evening commute 59 degrees and 5:00 p.m., 56. 7:00 p.m., 53 degrees and it may be that most of the region by 7:00 p.m. is still dry. the evening commute a good chance you do not have a problem with rain and less of a problem needing the sunglasses with the clouds getting thicker. overnight tonight, cloudy skies with rain eventually arriving south to north. 47 is the overnight low. it won't be as cool tomorrow morning as it was this morning, but it could be wet. now, the latest run on future tracker is differing a little bit in the placement of the rain between midnight up to 4:30 a.m. it wants to keep it mainly at the coast and push it back to philadelphia. we've had a a lot of recent runs that had this to some degree in

the western suburbs, as well. i think there's a good chance of that, either way, by noon, 1:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon most of the rain should be pulling up to the north. here's one model that has it pushing into the western suburbs. we're not talking about a lot of rain. in philadelphia, an inch or shy of that. same thing in millville. everybody could be a little bit damp tomorrow morning and then we get into tomorrow afternoon and it starts to dry. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, sun giving way to clouds today, 62 degrees is the forecast high. there's a chance of a sprinkle or shower down the shore late in the day, but the rest of the waiting until later tonight. tuesday, looks like it cloudy for the most part, a rainy start dry in the afternoon and perhaps returning sunshine. cooler high, 56, a little breezy. wednesday, thursday, friday, all look like great days to finish out the work workweek. start of the weekend, 64 on
