you know, do the right thing. turn yourself in. >> reporter: julian williams wants the hit-and-run driver to turn herself in. that driver struck 65-year-old cynthia mcneil shortly after 8 o'clock saturday november 5th. her family and friends held a vigil this weekend in an effort to get the word out. mcneil remains in the icu at crozer chester medical center. >> broken shoulder, arm, neck, back, spine. bleeding in the brain, brain damage. don't know how much yet. >> reporter: cynthia's daughter tammy is engaged to williams. tammy shot this video of the scene the night of the hit-and-run unaware it was her mom's jacket left in the middle of ninth street. cynthia mcneil had parked her white suv across from her house. >> what i believe happened was she was just coming across the street a car speed and hit her and kept going. >> a car coming westbound going up hit her. they turned on barkley street and stopped right up here at the light. they turned barclay street and

stopped got out of the car and hollered someone dial 911 and jumped in the car. >> reporter: well, hampering the situation here the family says is the surveillance video has not materialized. so far no surveillance video has materialized to turn up to give us a better idea what kind of car we're dealing with. the family is hoping, though, that someone will look around their neighborhood and might see a car stashed in an unusual place in someone's backyard a vacant lot under a tarp. take a look at it. it's a dark colored car with a lot of damage to the front end. they're hoping they will that contact the chester police. live in chester, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> thank you john. less than 20's minutes ago president obama wrapped up his first press conference since last week's presidential election. >> that's right. the president was both reflective and optimistic when he discussed the incoming trump administration assuring a smooth transition of power. >> my team stands ready to accelerate in the next steps that are required to ensure a

trump's election. officials at council rock north high school say students have reported incidents targeting latinos and the gay community. some students and parents tell "action news" the threats predate the election. regardless of the timing students say they're saddened but not surprised. >> first time people bring inappropriate things on the bathroom walls. >> there's always going to be someone who is not with the norm and it's not the norm that they're acting like this so i think we need to just get past that. >> a meeting at council rock north is set for tonight to address the harassment. meantime racist messages targeting african-american students at the university of pennsylvania have now been linked to three people from oklahoma. one is a student who has now been suspended from the school. >> philadelphia police say they're still looking for more video and more suspects after that flash mob attack over the weekend on a busy center city street. "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is live near the scene at 16th and walnut with the very latest.

sarah. >> reporter: rick, police are hoping additional video turns up giving them a better idea of just who was involved in this attack. they also want to know what motivated this violent flash mob. was it spontaneous? was the group altogether ahead of time? or did they connect and coordinate on social media in advance? detectives looked down the alleys and in the stores that line walnut between 16th and 17th in center city hoping to find any surveillance video of the violent flash mob in action saturday evening. >> they were just fighting everyone. >> reporter: witnesses walking along the stretch of high end stores were still talking about the attack today. >> they were just hitting anybody that came near them and, you know, once they got the person on the ground they would stomp them and go to the next person. >> reporter: it all started around 6:00 p.m. saturday. the group of juveniles started randomly assaulting people. >> i heard a lady screaming. they was down there all down there fighting. me and a couple other people

hid ourselves in urban outfitters then locked the door. >> reporter: a detective tried to intervene to assist the victims. he was assaulted. his wife tried to help and she, too, was punched in the face. an off duty officer guarding the apple store also tried to help. >> you saw how quickly an off duty detective responded. he got seriously hurt doing sole but he did his job. we're very proud of him. as well as the officer who was working an offer duty assignment in the apple store. >> reporter: police took two 16-year-old boys into custody immediately. they're still looking for the others involved. >> about someone seriously hurt not to mention just infringing upon somebody else's liberty to walk down the street and so they should be absolutely held accountable for what they did and there's no excuse for it. >> reporter: in all, six people were injured, most of those minor injuries and those people were treated and released. however, the detective did suffer a fracture to his eye socket.

we believe he's going to need to undergo some additional treatment. of course police do want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this saturday evening. live in center city, i'm sarah bloomquist channel6 "action news." >> thank you sarah. here's a wintry scene that could be just a few weeks away for us, below freezing temperatures and snow and while it can be tempting to leave your car idling to let it warm up in the winter delaware state police are warning drivers before winter that it is against the law. a first offense will mean a fine of $25 to $75. further offenses could mean steeper penalties. police say it also puts your car at risk of being stolen because thieves of course look for cars with the exhaust coming out of the exhaust pipe. >> i'm not ready. i'm not ready for that. we're less than six weeks and counting until christmas. electronics are expected to be a hot item for gift giving this season. now the children's hospital of philadelphia is working with local schools to reinforce the importance of safe listening practices when it comes to audio devices. often enough the chances are that you could develop noise induced hearing loss. >> the older kids sometimes have some bad habits that have formed already so it's important try to change them. we figure we'll create age advocacy if we start young. >> reporter: the campaign aims to reach kids while they're still young but parents play an important role here too. organizers say that means parents should not only set an example but monitor usage and volume but parameters in place and make sure their children take breaks. these lessons can be particularly relevant with the approaching holidays. >> it's a time when you're giving your children these devices to speak to them about protecting their hearing. >> reporter: and these students seem to be getting the message loud and clear. well, not too loud. >> you look at the volume and you see how loud it is and you know to make it quieter. >> reporter: in south philadelphia, katherine scott, channel6 "action news". >> time right now for a check of the "action news" traffic

report. >> matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center monday night. how was the weekend? >> weekend was great but i'm wishing things were a little quieter on the roads. that would be nice rick and monica. a crash on 95 once again in the work zone southbound by cottman avenue. the good news is just as katherine was wrapping up they cleared the accident from the southbound left lane so just cleared within the last minute. the bad news is it's still a parking lot coming south from just past woodhaven through this point at cottman. should start to improve in just a little bit. and we're improving here. we had a broken down vehicle near paoli on 202 southbound gave us a delay which we're not used to anymore since we got that third lane each way on 202. but the dv has cleared out of the way. in lower pottsgrove a crash to avoid along bleim road. i would use swamp pike or book erode instead. big delays on 295 southbound from mount laurel down to haddon heights. there was southbound crash by the black horse pike but luckily that, too, is gone. so we're on the upswing. we'll check it again rick and

multi-million dollars grant from the american cancer society and the cvs health foundation. the university of pennsylvania has already begun working towards becoming the first ivy league school to go 100 percent tobacco free. 99 percent of smokers start by age 26 and statistics show 1 million college students will die from tobacco related causes. >> if we could stop college students from smoking before they ever start, or make it more difficult for them to smoke at school, we can help save lives and end the pain and suffering from cancer. >> the initiative plans to award 125 grants to more universities over the next three years. opponents of a smoking ban say it infringes on students' rights. many of us caught the supermoon last night and of course with the supermoon comes some superstitions. psychologist scott bay says some people believe the full moon affects human behavior but study after study shows no

edge higher today despite a mixed finish for the market. the dow now finished in the green six days in a row hiting a new record high today. the dow jones gained 21 points by the closing bell, nasdaq lost 19 and change. the s & p 500 finished nearly flat. good news for drivers tonight. aaa says the average price for a gallon of gas has dropped for 10 consecutive days. locally the price of gas has fallen about a cent and a half in the past week in pennsylvania. gas is down three cents per gallon in new jersey and it's down about two cents per gallon in delaware. one local company celebrating 130 years in business. the action cam was at the rittenhouse hotel this morning where berkshire hathaway home services fox and roach marked that milestone. the company says it's the region's largest realtor and even ben franklin was there to hand deliver a celebratory citation for mayor kenney's office. >> they talked at wynnefield heights about how to empower

>> we have some breaking news to pass along from the city's wissinoming section tonight. chopper6 is over the scene where police are investigating a collision, a man on his dirt bike apparently collided with a police cruiser. happened just around 5 o'clock about 25 minutes ago at torresdale avenue and howell street again in wissinoming. details are sketchy. we're told the 20's-year-old

man was transferred to the hospital in critical condition. no word yet on what led up to the crash. no other injuries are reported but again police are trying to determine exactly what happened here in the city's wissinoming section after a 20's-year-old man crashed his dirt bike into a police cruiser. we will keep you posted as more information becomes available to us. >> time right now to get a check of accuweather. meteorologist cecily tynan here with the update. >> monica and rick we're getting a brush of rain. storm tracker6 live double scan showing we're dry inland but we have some pockets of some heavy rain across coastal cape may atlantic county. you can see right now right over the garden state parkway from sea isle city into atlantic city and this is all pivoting up to the north and west and this is from a cold... a coastal storm, it's a weak system and that is pushing up from the south so sea isle city right now again right over the garden state parkway we do have some heavier rain. it's trying to move inland but it's only going to be able to go so far. so, really where you are makes a big difference in how much rain you'll get overnight. temperature-wise

across-the-board we're in the 50's. philadelphia 55. our high earlier today reached 60. relatively mild. allentown 56. and cape may currently 54. so satellite6 along with action radar showing the system i'm tracking is right over the coast of north carolina and this is really going to be making a beeline to new england. so, what this means is that we do get that brush of some rain overnight and the heaviest of it will be right along the coast. so, future tracker showing 11 o'clock tonight you can see we've got the rain primarily south jersey and delaware. northwest suburbs not getting into much of the action but that will change overnight as we do get some showers tomorrow morning for the morning commute. there will be showers around. allow some extra time but it's not all day rain. we will be clearing out from the south to the north as we head through the day. by the afternoon even south of philadelphia could actually see a few peeks of sunshine. so, how much rain are we expecting? not much for philadelphia. likely less than about a quarter of an inch but new

the rebuilding process now t he's promising to build a broader bench of federal state and local candidates. ellison says democrats need a robe but party organization in every state. he has abattracted support from high profile backers including senate minority leader harry reid and his expected replacement senator chuck schumer. ellison was the first muslim american elected to congress. >> a california sheriff's deputy who was shot execution style while on duty is being remembered as a dedicated husband and father. 53-year-old deputy dennis wallace was shot and killed on sunday while investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle in houston that's just south of sacramento. the suspect has been identified as david machado was captured ourself later after allegedly trying to steal a woman's purse. colleagues of wallace say the 20-year-old veteran of the force died doing what he loved. a georgia father a had been found guilty of felony murder in the death of his toddler son who perished after being left in a hot car. the jury reached its verdict

just an hour ago in the trial of justin harris. harris' 22 month old son cooper died after he left the boy in his suv while he was at work back in june of 2014. police charged harris with malice murder after investigatord concluded he left his child to die on purpose. world news tonight with david muir will have much more on today's verdict as well as president-elect donald trump's transition to the white house. you can watch it tonight at 6:30 following "action news" at 6:00. >> two men took an argument too far outside a port richmond business and it ended in gunfire. this is surveillance video of the incidents yesterday afternoon. investigators say two men got into a fight, one pulled a gun and fired. a bullet shattered the front window of the new era barbershop here in the 1900 block of east tioga street. after initially dropping the gun the suspect actually ran back for the gun and has not been seen since. philadelphia police are looking for two men who targeted a university city

restaurant. the armed suspect stormed mad max here in the 3400 block of moravian street at 2:00 a.m. employees were closing the restaurant. investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what was stolen. we now know the name of a woman who was hit and killed while walking across a wilmington roadway. officials say 42-year-old alexa mcaveney was attempting to cross kirkwood highway last flight at 6:30 when she was hit by an suv. the vehicle was driven by an 18-year-old woman. police say she was dressed in dark clothing and was not in a marked crosswalk. she died at the hospital. the teen driver has not been charged. >> a 15-year-old male was shot once this afternoon in southwest philadelphia. the gunman remains on the loose tonight. the shooting happened here on the 2000 block of south 60th street. the victim is at presbyterian hospital listed in stable condition. no word on a motive. no arrests in a shooting reported at a philadelphia nightclub. the male victim showed up at the hospital after the

incident happened overnight and he told police he was shot several times at club on onyx around 5:00 a.m. the the victim is in stable condition. philadelphia city council heard testimony today about ways to reform our criminal justice system. two recommendations were made during today's hearing. one asked the city to get more electronic monitoring units for use during pretrial detention. there was also a request to increase funding for pretrial service staff to be able to provide more help to individuals who are released while awaiting trial. >> a woman was found wandering the streets of philadelphia early this morning and now police need your help finding her family. detectives sent us this photo of the woman in hopes someone recognizes her. she was found in the 8700 block of pine road headed towards pennypack park at 2:00 a.m. officers say she appeared confused. she's in her late 60's or early 70's, 6 feet tall, 175 pounds. she was wearing a blue sweatshirt, blue scrub pants

and white sneakers. if you recognize this woman, please call 911. a fire at a tire shop sent smoke pouring into philadelphia's kensington neighborhood this morning. joel's tire store on the corner of frankford and lehigh avenues caught on fire at 3 o'clock. flames were coming from one side of the property. police had to close down roads in the area to make room for firefighters. so far no word what sparked it. >> a private contractor was painting the insider of a water tower today in allegany county when he suddenly fell some 50 feet. the 32-year-old worker reportedly fell off scaffolding inside the tank in o'hara township. paramedics treated him inside the tower then took him to the hospital. his condition is unknown tonight. >> time for another look at the traffic scene monday night. >> we know the condition of the commute home on a monday night, matt. >> it's never great. yeah, let's tell you all about it. it's still dry. the rain not coming down yet here in the city of philadelphia rick and monica, but the speeds they're way down here on 95 southbound side, this is the scene

approaching cottman. just up ahead there was an accident in the work zone that's now gone but you're still looking at speeds like 28 miles per hour as you come south of woodhaven. couple accidents to watch out for in bucks county. one along 13 bristol pike just south of woodhaven road. also a bad one along bensalem boulevard near ford road. emergency crews responding to the scene. as we told you in the wissinoming section of the city there was a crash involving the dirt bike along torresdale at howell by the king wok. i would stay over on frankford avenue as a better bet much this is the vine street expressway busy of course in both directions and hey you know what's back this week? overnight closures of the vine street expressway starting at 11 o'clock each night. we'll see if that happens tonight with the rain coming in but it is scheduled to shut downton night at 11:00. over here in marple township watching a crash along lawrence road at parkway avenue just to the east of 320. sounds like there's a pretty bad one in towamencin township montgomery county just 6 miles per hour along valley forge

the north. it started off beautiful today with sunshine, 60 degrees was the high. then clouds came in and now the rain is falling. as we take a look at storm tracker double scan raining through much of the afternoon in southern parts of new jersey and delaware and it's slowly working from the store inland as it's backing in with a weak coastal storm and here you can see on storm tracker6 live double scan a little bit closer here some steady and at times heavy rain in parts of not only northern cape may county but atlantic county especially from atlantic city heading away on the atlantic city expressway once you get through egg harbor. again, steady rainfall and then it breaks up lighter and then it's dry once you get out of atlantic county but that will change as you can see some of these heavy periods of rain and the lighter rain in the green continuing to work to the north and west so it will overspread the rest of the region slowly here during the overnight hours. but prior to that rain coming in and the clouds increasing this afternoon, again it was a beautiful start. this a snapshot from our social media page sent in by

this? >> reporter: jim, good evening. students we spoke with say not here, not their school but unfortunately that is the case. i can't tell -- i can tell i was bloody knife has been found and it is reported the suspect told the victims he was prepared to kill them. >> that's crazy. >> yeah, small school. >> stuff like this kind of shocks you. >> reporter: desales university rocked by an attempted double homicide. reported weapon of choice a knife found bloody at the scene. a suspect a 19-year-old named brendan mcmichael of philadelphia. court documents state it went down in a party in mcmichael's suite in welsh hall. just before 1:00 a.m. police received a call from a roommate. he and another roommate john mcloughlin had been attacked that mcmichael pulled a knife on the two in their suite room flex to where the party was going on. it states in the affidavit "mussel man reported at this time he saw in the mirror's reflection that the defendant was holding a knife possibly a
